Sarah moves rather freely throughout the city, both in poor and affluent areas. Is she naive or afforded this because of her status as a midwife, widow and a former member of the 400?

I definitely think her status as a midwife and a Decker give her access pretty much anywhere she wants to go. lol

I thought so, too, and she seemed to be smart about knowing those areas of town she needed to ride through versus walk without escort.

It is very clever of the author to write a character who fits so easily into both worlds and to whom both the wealthy and the lower class will open up to.

I agree, Lauren, very clever. And the author does it so well, that it was at least believable to me.

I think she was able to move freely because of her job as a midwife and because of her family.
