Oh Ahdam, sometimes I forget how young you actually are since we get along so well... But you make me feel like an old man with statements like this one!! lol
To everyone else: I hope you love this read as much as I did. For me it was pure nostalgia! I was raised with a majority of the reference in the book which made this an instant 5 star read for me!

Also can't wait for the film it's obviou..."
I know what you mean Chris when I was reading this book I always though to myself "This will probably be a walk down memoy lane for Dad" since I remember watching wreck it ralph and while I was scratching my head with some references he was smiling like a little kid.

Interesting build up so far. 16% in.

I did but it wasn't my gaming option of choice.

I'm not a big fan of relying on pop culture references ad nauseum but I also enjoyed this one. It was predictable yet fun.

I think the author was just really excited to throw in ALL of his 80s knowledge. We really didn't need ALL of it.

Btw, I think this might be one of those rare cases where the movie might be better than the book. I thought the premise lends itself better to it being made as a movie or tv series.

I read this last year and I thought the same thing about it being over-hyped, the plot itself, and what you put in your spoiler. The constant 80s name dropping of all things 80s got annoying to me as well.

I think we have very similar tastes. I'm almost done with this one but I've had many issues with it so far and I find it really really over hyped.

Hold that thought...

I dunno if it's Wil Wheaton's characterizations taking it to the next level, but this audiobook is almost painful to listen to... the level of immersion in 80's culture... and presumably lingo (I'm not sure if this lingo is specifically 80s, but it's dated)

I loved it: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I completely agree. Better than expected but then again expectations wasn't that high. I don't tend to like teen main characters that act more mature than most 30+ year old. At least this kid was a kid for most of the book.

Haha. He was also spot on with the misplaced music in the movie. ;)

In total most of the references are the biggest/most famous movies/music/computer games, though, some of it are so old most people probably forgot about it.
There's just one reference I cannot fit in: Firefly. I mean, I love the series, but it's not really late 70s or 80s.
