SOLVED. Need the name of a book where the main character can become smoke. I read it in 2017 and the genre is crime fiction. [s]

The book genre is crime fiction I’m pretty sure. It’s about a boy in his late teens who was put in jail for a murder he didn’t actually commit. They call him smoke because he hears and finds out things without leaving his cell. Little do they know, he literally turns into smoke. People pay him to find things out for them. Most of that is on the back of the book or mentioned in the first chapter so there are no spoilers. It’s such a good book but I can’t remember the name, please help!
