Children's book where movers (some sort of animals) move a dresser up a ridiculous amount of stairs to get to the house only to find the old lady owner says there is a driveway that goes right up to the back of the house. Read this in the 80's and seem to remember the characters looking similar to William Steig characters.

Ellen, do you remember if the animals wore clothes?Part of a series?
Anything about the cover?
Time period/location story takes place?
Could it be one of the Sweet Pickles books? Those have anthropomorphic animals and I remember enjoying reading them in the 80s.
They did wear clothes. I think the cover was the daunting front steps up a giant hill to get to the house. It was not part of a series. I really remember the pictures looking like William Steig illustrations...but I've checked everything he illustrated and its not him.
What kind of animal was the old lady?
Did the book rhyme, or was it in prose?

Thank you Ayshe!!!! It is Chuck Lends a Paw! This has been driving me crazy for months. Ayshe wrote: "Chuck Lends a Paw by Robert M. Quackenbush?"
