Yeah I can get that. I haven't started year 2 of Injustice but Alfred by the end of year 1 got me pumped. :)

Yeah, the final chapter was epic. I really like Year 2 as well. Have you played the game? I bought it years ago but haven’t played it because I wanted to read the comics first.

Yeah but It plays more like Mortal Kombat and I am an old school Street Fighter or Soul Calibur Player so it was not as fun as I hoped personally. There should be cut scenes on YouTube if you want to cut through all the work and time but since you already have it you might want to play it too. :)

I don’t really play fighting games anymore, but I’ll probably try it. Might just play it on easy to get the story without the potential headache. Bosses in fighting games can be the worst. >_<
I figured I'd dip in here and talk about what I'm currently reading in regards to the manga/comic side of things.
This is one of those series that once I started reading it I had to wonder why I'd never read it before. There are a few reasons and most of it comes down to accessibility but that is beside the point. I am loving this series. I've tried diving into the genre of cyberpunk a few times and there are a lot of things I find interesting about the genre but the books have never been one. A lot of the times I find them boring as they spend to much time navel gazing. To much time philosophizing about everything and anything instead of exploring the cool and interesting world around them. Alita fixes all those problems for me. Sure there is some philosophizing in the books but it feels more incorporated into the story and things never really stop to do it. The main focus is on the world that Alita is living in. Things like Motorball, merc work, etc.
The romantic comedy series that I'm reading currently. I'm on volumes 9/10 right now and this series is fine. It's not exactly blowing me away but it's still enjoyable. The characters are all good and the story works for me.
I'm currently on volumes 7/8 and this is a series that has really started to hit it's stride for me. In the beginning I was frustrated with the lack of information and general all around vagueness of things. In the volumes 5/6 things finally started clicking for me. I was really enjoying the character interactions and the stories slow burn feel finally clicked with me. I'm really interested to see where this is going to go in the future.
I just started the series yesterday and I am loving it. I'm a sucker for the slice of life stories in a fantasy world and that's what this is. The art work is beautiful and I love the middle eastern vibes of the story in general. Combine that with the fact that it's all about books and it's just clicking with me. I'm working on the second volume currently and I plan to read the third one this week as well.
One of the comic series I'm working on currently. I like the goofy nature of the story and the MC is enjoyable.

A one shot collected work about a meme going horribly wrong. It's the end of the world as we know of it.

That is good to know. My library doesn't have them but they appear to be available on Kobo. A bit expensive at $16 a pop but I'll probably snag them considering how much I love the series.

Ouch. That is expensive. I didn't know electronic books suffered under the same price gouge as physical books did in Canada. If you sign up for the Kindle Unlimited plan on Amazon for the month you can read the first omnibus of Last Order along with an assortment of other books available through out the month. In the American version you can borrow up to 10 books at a time.
Also a funny thing about Last Order is the Omnibus only goes up to volume 5 (which I believe is volume 15 in the series but you'll have to collect the individual volumes volumes the rest of the way to 19 to finish it.

I have an internal list of authors and/or series that I plan to chip away at during 2024. At the top of the list is the work of the Norwegian cartoonist John Arne Sæterøy, who goes by the pen name of Jason. Someone last year introduced me to Jason’s first book,
Hey, Wait...
. The cartoonist’s approach tends to be rather minimalistic, both in terms of his art and dialog. Jason’s work often comes across as somewhat mordant and bleak, which somehow appeals to me these days. He has been the recipient of a number of awards over the course of his career.
Looks like some good reviews. I should check out the free Comixxology trial subscription to check those out. Certainly is cheaper then what I pay for for Kindle Unlimited right now.
Doc said: Looks like some good reviews. I might suggest checking out something like The Left Bank Gang , one of his better efforts. If you don’t care for that one, chances are high you won’t appreciate any of his other efforts.
I appreciate your suggestion. Ultimately I want to read that time traveling Hitler extermination book though. Good thing they are both on Comixxology. :)
Ever heard of Until Death Do Us Part I am about half way through volume 6 right now. It is kind of like manga Daredevil but with Yakuza and secret societies. :)

To be honest, manga is a bit of a blind spot for me that I’ve been slowly trying to rectify.

In that case I also suggest most books from Naoki Urasawa. In particular I have really enjoyed what I have read of 20th Century Boys and Monster so far but in general I have enjoyed everything he has released. He even made a series based on Astroboy called PLUTO which has an anime on Netflix now.

As for what I am reading I am presently between Until Death Do Us Part Omnibus (2-in-1 Edition), Vol. 6: Includes Vol. 11 & 12, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Chapter 4: The Sanctuary and the Witch of Greed, Vol. 6 (manga) (Volume 6), Blacksad, and Road to Perdition.
Drat this distracted mind of mine. :)

I’m currently reading
The Dirty Parts of the Bible
, by Sam Torode, a GN version of the author’s own book. It’s a somewhat bawdy Bildungsroman set in post-Depression American that is in part a modern retelling of the apocryphal Book of Tobit. It won a number of awards.
Did you see the public domain stuff this year Canavan? Early Popeye and Tintin comics are public domain now. :)

Dragon Ball is one of the first manga I ever read, but I never finished it for some reason. It’s been fun to go back and read it now.
I’m very impressed with Injustice. I like it way more than I thought I would.
