You could use a digital voice recoder such as those made by Sony and have the file converted to text with a voice to text software. Eventually you'll have to use a word processor to edit your text.
I used my mobile phone to write the first draft of my first novel. Took a while, but it got done eventually.What I really liked about it was that I could write in spare moments: on the bus, airplane, while waiting for people...basically, any time an idea struck I could just pull out my phone and continue writing.
It's uncommon to write on one's phone but not rare. I have phone w/a 4.7" display, but I'd rather have my mom's that I got for her for Xmas: 5.5"! And Kent is right--you an write anywhere. I do write on my phone here and there, while I'm waiting, but mostly for ideas and snippets of scenes.I mostly write on my 17" macbook pro (2011). I'd like to hook it up to a bigger monitor, but I fried several ports, including the HDMI, when I spilled coffee on it. What a klutz! Over the weekend, I washed my shirt with my earbuds in its pocket. Luckily, they're still working.
iMac for my study/office where I predominantly use Scrivener. Lots of data backup systems - don't want to lose that masterpiece. I also have an iPad with a detachable keyboard which I use on holiday and trips. This also has Scrivener so I can synch the projects.I have used voice dictation built into mac/pc for speech to text and reverse for checking what I have written.
Doesn't make writing any easier or the ideas come any quicker but I do find Scrivener brilliant in organising and of course outputting into the various formats for publishing.
A little passé, but still workable - pen & paper and letting a secretary or writing assistant type it up afterwards -:)
I’ve decided to finally start writing my book on social life and technology.
I have a laptop I use for design and computer programming. But I’m rather tired of looking at it by the end of the day though.
To that end what are writers here using for writing? I’m wanting to get something not my work laptop. If that makes sense.
