Jonathan Guly I read The Shining. A classic book written by Stephen King. In The Shining, an alcoholic named Jack Torrance, his wife Wendy, and their son Danny who is discovering a special ability called the shining that he contains. Jack and his family decide to move into the Overlook Hotel where Jack is taking care of the hotel. throughout the book, Jack slowing changes. His changes put his family into undesirable situations.

explanation

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I thought the character development in this book was phenomenal! This book is great at painting a picture in the readers head. I do feel like lots of stuff in the book is unneeded and could have discarded. when I watched the movie soon after, I decided that the book should be shorter.

Dirk Hello Jonathan,
that is one of Stephen Kings specialities. He is writing a lot of staff around his stories. Have you read more than Shining from King? Counting Gwendy's Button Box, my last one I had read about 30 books of him. All are longer than needed. But I think sometimes these extras in the stories are needed to come back to normality when something very strange happend. Otherwise the storys would over to fast, and you had no time to relax a bit.

Finnigan Brando Mr. King is infamous for writing super long books, more often times longer than they need to be. But I think it's all subjective! I'm glad you liked The Shining though! It's one of my favorites!! It's always so interesting to see the differences between the book and the movie. What did you think of the movie? :) I saw the movie before I read the book so I was thrown in for a big loop when I actually got the novel.
