Get a jump on the Library’s annual One Book – One Community celebration by checking out 2018's selected title, "Station Eleven,” which tells the story of a group of rag-tag actors and musicians who travel across a desolate country to keep art and humanity alive after a flu pandemic kills 99 percent of the world's population. You can reserve a copy from the Library here: http://bit.ly/2AFf4cS.

Most of the Big Read events will be in April, but the Library has two programs in January to kick-start our celebration of “Station Eleven”: a photo contest and a reading challenge.

With your camera, capture your view of "A World Without People." Your photo may be submitted between January 2 and January 31, 2018. A panel of judges will select first-place and second-place winners in each age category (youth age 12-17; adults age 18 and older). Winners will be awarded prizes at a reception on March 2, and winning entries will be displayed in the libraries in March and April.

If you’d rather stick to reading, then we have a challenge for you, too. Read and review "Station Eleven" and submit an online review by January 31, 2018. You could win a pair of front-row seats to Emily St. John Mandel's visit on April 12 and a signed copy of "Station Eleven."

Visit thelibrary.org/bigread/ for more details on these challenges and information about upcoming Big Read events!
