Buddy Read starts 10th April.

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments Thank you Angela.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Spot:)

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments Choko this is great to have you here. We read the first installment Shaitarn and I and it was fund even if our views diverged. :D

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I will read that one before it is time to start this one... I own this series too, so it is time to clean my TBR:)

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments You are in for a ride. :D I wonder whether you'll side with Shaitarn or be closer to me. I hope your review will appear in my feed (because this is not a rule).

Shaitarn | 2185 comments Belatedly booking a spot here.

Difference of opinion is one of the things that makes buddy reads fun! Thankfully we're all mature enough to still be friendly and respectful about it (quite a rarity in the online world!)

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments It is great fun, no? I love our discussions!

Shaitarn | 2185 comments I might be a bit late on this one thanks to Robin Hobb but I will endeavour to read both at once!

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments No rush my friend. I'm running behind too.

Shaitarn | 2185 comments I should start this tomorrow (Friday the 13th - quite appropriate!); Forest Mage has wiped me out right now!

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments Don't tell anyone, it's my birthday and I might have less reading time. But I will catch up over the weekend. That is a promise.

Happy birthday! I don't know how much reading I'll get done this weekend as I will (hopefully) be doing the writing I should already have done for Camp Nano this month. But I made a start (on the reading) this morning, and I am enjoying it so far!

Shaitarn | 2185 comments OK - odd. I've read this and enjoyed it but couldn't think of a single comment to write about it. How does that work?

Um - I like that the previous emperor originally wanted to call his barge Crocfucker. Does that help?

Shaitarn | 2185 comments I can't decide if the Emperor Jhiral is a very cunning, conniving little weasel or a petulant man-child with too much power who should've been slapped a lot more as a child.

That (view spoiler) was probably going too far, but otherwise I have to say I approve of Ringil's way of tackling slavery.

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments OK, let me finish and then we will confer.

But in general plus or minus?

Shaitarn | 2185 comments Plus for me - but then, I liked the first one, so you know I have lapses in taste! :D

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments Well, I didn't exactly disliked the first one. :D I just didn't adore it.

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments So, I have finished ages ago but didn't even have time to write a review. I liked it. But.

I seem to have buts with Morgan. I like his stories but I have the way he tells them. We read the previous book dozens of books ago and I have forgotten a lot of details. And what does he do? Nothing. He doesn't care. There is no catch-up. No helping hand. So I stumbled lost and aggrieved and then I just decided I don't care.

Ringil is the ultimate anti-hero. A real anti-hero, not an anti-hero pretending to be one (like most of Lawrence's protagonists). I think it does take a talent to write one, so this is where I give Morgan his dues.

surprisingly, the emperor seems to be my favourite? (I cannot believe I wrote this)
