Kizi (kizzme) | 14 comments I'm looking for something like The Demon's Possession by Kiersten Fay or The Melier
Scifi or Fantasy a.k.a fiction*. With romance, adult romance. No BDMS.No Dark heart breaking ones.
Where a slave/captive its newly freed and experiencing life for the first time or re-experiencing it. They are shy and scare but quickly gaining confidence and a new perspective on life. And finally being Happy.

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop The Demon's Possession (Shadow Quest, #1) by Kiersten Fay The Melier (Women of Dor Nye, #1) by Poppy Rhys Dark Horse (Class 5, #1) by Michelle Diener The Golden Dynasty (Fantasyland, #2) by Kristen Ashley Touch of Enchantment (Lennox Family Magic, #2) by Teresa Medeiros

M/F, ( M/F/M<- they most be equal partners in her eyes- no loving one more than the other)
No M/M or F/F, Dark

*Edit -I made a mistake, it was suppose to say "fiction" and not "non-fiction" and I forgot to add that I'm looking for "heart lifting books" and not "heart breaking books". =D

Kiersten | 13 comments I love love love Mara, Daughter of the Nile!
The main character is technically still a slave until near the end of the book, but she's living essentially like a free woman, and faces challenges of taking ownership of her life similar to what you describe above (although she's quite the spitfire even as a slave, and I would never describe her as shy or scared...)

Kizi (kizzme) | 14 comments No, no that sounds perfect! " taking ownership of her life..." its exactly what I'm looking for. I have never read an Historical Egyptian novel!
Thank you for your suggestion, looking it up right now!

"Scifi or Fantasy a.k.a non-fiction"

What does this mean? You are looking for nonfiction?

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments The main character of The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold is a former soldier who was betrayed into slavery by a political enemy. He barely survived his stint as a galley slave and walks back to his home country in the hopes he can find a position as a kitchen drudge. Instead he ends up tutoring a princess who gets called to the capitol, where the Roya (king) is very sick and the power behind the throne is the very man who betrayed him. He has to save the princess from both political danger and a divine curse that destroys every member of her bloodline.

This is one of my favorite books, and I really can’t recommend it highly enough. It does have romance, as well, though a lot of it is the main character denying his attraction to the princess’ lady in waiting because she deserves someone better than him. The lady has a different opinion.

There is always the classic The Count of Monte Cristo. He was betrayed by a "friend" and spent many years in prison before his escape.

Thank you for the suggestion! I read this a long time ago, (I think for a school project) or recommended by a friend on middle school- I liked. But is a bit of a biographical novel /memoir since is based on a real person.

But I like it I like that he always thrive to be better to fight for his right and take care of his family even if it was hard at times. <3 But its kind heavy, and Im looking for more scifi and Fantasy.

Oh wow! That those look dark, and like... its gonna make me cry of agony... (I have a friend who would love these) can you tell me if they have a HEA? That its why I'm looking for a fantasy scify-ish so I can't really link them to reality... and cry even more.
I Actually liked the - Pitch Dark by A.M Wilson and Alex Grayson description but not necessarily for this post.

Thank you for the recommendation !!!!

(I work on a news paper and I see real thing all the time. And want a bit of a relive, that is why I wanted the fantasy, scifi, world.)

Kizi (kizzme) | 14 comments Hey- If anyone else its looking for something like this.
I found this book, its amazing!
Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop
Written in Red
As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.
