Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments Hi everyone!

Sorry to be MIA - we had our first winter championship of the season over the weekend...and I had to take the new kitten to the vet. He was having seizures. It's been a tough 72 hours. All the more reason to escape in a good book! I am about 30% done with Room. Hoping to read a good chunk of it tonight and the rest of the week :-)

Also, our team rocks!

Oh no! I hope the kitty is okay now. I swear, that has got to be the saddest thing ever!

And YES! WE ROCK!! :)

It was pretty scary! I am hoping that I just accidentally poisoned him, as bad as that sounds lol. I had some scented wall plugs and an oil lamp going. Maybe he got into that. He is doing so much better now that, thank you :-)

Poor baby :( I'm glad to hear he's doing better!

And, yes, we rock! We only have 4 connections not yet selected. Now we just have to read the books! 8 days left! :)

message 206: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments I know it looks like I'm putting an insane amount of books down for myself, but they're almost all re-reads, so they go quick. :)

Also, 9 more books completes our regular hands!

Hey Jessica, I hope you don't mind, but I switched your book to Team Jupiter with a moon on the cover too (their last book), because I found a book I wanted to read from the author of A Monster Calls.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments Hi Team Kuiper - dropping in from Team Triangulum! Thanks for putting The Others series on your list - I read Etched in Bone. I’ve really enjoyed this series - I found the world and the characters to be a fresh approach in a crowded genre. I have to admit, this book seemed a little anticlimatic as a conclusion, but I still enjoyed it. (Don’t worry - no spoilers here.) I’m looking forward to reading the other Thasia books Bishop writes. Thanks again!

Flexibility is the name of the game! If you have a book that only works one place, but you can find a place that another book goes, feel free to move things around.

Thanks for the great attitude, Jessica. It's always nice to work with people who are okay with their books being moved around! :)

We all forget at least once. That's why Kristel and I check! :)

Laura | 2892 comments Guys! We only need 2 more books for the main hands! It's a 2 & a 6, so probably the next two books finished will complete them!

Here's what I have down for everybody for the mini-challenge. If there's something you think you might not finish, just let us know. We have 3 Uno Pixie books available since Chrystal wasn't able to continue playing.

Cinthia - The Rest of Us Just Live Here, The Immortalists,

Diana - I'll Give You the Sun

Laura - Hunting Ground, Crowned and Dangerous, Fair Game, Vision in Silver, An Urchin of Means

Megan - What We Saw, Eliza and Her Monsters

Jessica - The Cruel Prince

Eni - The Ocean at the End of the Lane

Kristel - The Young Elites, Three Dark Crowns

Nicole - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Additionally, we have 2 open spots, 1 each for Team Tucana and Team Ceres. And there are a couple of swaps noted on the spreadsheet, so if you find something for Team Neptune or Team Eris we can make that work, too.

message 223: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments I’m reading At the Waters Edge. Author is Sara Gruen. That should work for six right?

If someone reads one before I get done, yay! Not sure if it will work for anything in the mini?

message 224: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Sarah, I’ll take a look and see if I can find any connections.

message 225: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments Sounds good :-)

message 226: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments I’ve got the most spots tied up, so I can most easily see if one of mine can switch around, too. :)

message 227: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 308 comments I should be able to do The Hate You Give for Team Tucana, so we'll only need one more book for Ceres. I can't believe the amount of books I have read since we started the challenge! I think this is why I didn't do it the past two years. I become too competitive and end up neglecting everything else that I should be doing. :)

Right! I really only do read 1-2 books/month. Then I get into this challenge and BAM! - I read four-five, lol :-)

message 229: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Completed: The Cruel Prince and updated both SS :)

For the first time in a while I don't have anything lined up! I have plenty books on hand that I can start so I will try to find something that connects to Ceres.

IKR?!? When I told my husband that UNO was starting he rolled his eyes and said: "I guess we will see you in about 3 months then." LOL!!!

I’ll finish “I’ll give you the sun”, and it will be it for this month. I am seriously busy at work, have sooo many deadlines approaching, plus I am teaching a new course, so yeah. I am keeping the two books I started this month, the one about logic and the other about minimalism, unfinished, and then we can use them in march.

Looks like this would be a good back-up book. With that ocean, and a woman on the cover, it fits in multiple spots where the books are completed yet! :)

It's a sickness! It really is. I went from never having done a team challenge, and only really having done one other challenge to modding a group and creating challenges on my own since that first UNO! :)

It looks like some of the other teams had a better main hand. :( Our only hope of winning is if we complete the mini challenge and they don't.

message 244: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Some did. But we could have better hands for March!

message 245: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments Hi Team Kuiper - checking in from Triangulum...

Love love loved Gemina - so glad it was on your list! I love the format and the storytelling. I've picked up both to have in the home library :)

Love that series!

message 247: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments So, for March, here are our color cards:

Blue 2
Green 7
Blue 5
Red 7
Yellow 8
Blue 6
Red 2
Yellow 0

We can cover all the blues with books already in the planning for next month, so we need to look for the Yellows, the Reds, and the Green.

We had 9 Draw 2s. Which is nice because you need fewer books, but that's 9 cards which gave us no points. This month we only have 5 Draw 2s.

message 249: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments I think I can cover the Red 7. There's bound to be a V in The Crimson Fairy Book by Andrew Lang

I can cover the Blue 2 with the book I started this month, Introduction to Logic by Alfred Tarski, how lucky :)
