ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2018

Team Kuiper
Hi all! I finally finished Truly Madly Guilty!I updated the spreadsheet. Just double check it because I did it from my phone!

A while ago, we asked you to head to THIS THREAD to post three (3) favourite books/series, up to a maximum of five (5) for those of us who have a hard time deciding ;-), you would recommend to others.
As some of you have already guessed, this will in some way be incorporated into an upcoming optional mini challenge. (Nope, our lips are sealed still, we are not going to tell you what it is :-p)
However, a surprisingly large number of players have not posted any recommendations yet. Unfortunately, that might make things difficult for your fellow players as well as yourselves.
Please, please, post 3-5 recommendations in the above mentioned thread. If you don't, we may be forced to take unwanted action as a result.
For the book recommendations:✔ Laura - Captain
✔ Kristel Ratas - Co-captain
Chrystal - Co-captain
✔ Sarah Twiggs
✔ Eni
✔ Nicole Early
✔ Diana
✔ Cinthia
✔ Christine
✔ Jessica Rela
✔ Megan

Awesome! Thanks :-)

Cinthia wrote: "I finished A Wrinkle in Time and A Wind in the Door"Did you enjoy them? I loved those books as a kid! And I recently read the first one to my kids. We read a chapter (or more) of a classic, great book (usually one I loved as a child) every day as part of our school day. :)

I did enjoy them. I liked the first one better. I started reading it to my son last week, but he couldn't sit still for it. I'm trying to get him to read it on his own. I'm working on the third one now. :)

How old is he?

Yes, yes, you have guessed it already - the recommendations were not only for our pleasure but there was something more to it ;-)
Since some of you have already added a few of the recommendations to your TBR shelves, we figured that would be an ideal title for our February Mini Challenge. ;-)
All info for the mini challenge can be found HERE. Have fun!
(Co-)Captains, your spreadsheets will be updated with a new sheet for the mini challenge within the next 24 hours.
Hey, I guess we need to talk about the mini challenge!I understand that in total we need to read 21x2=42 books if we want to complete the two parts of the challenge. We can do it :)
As for the first part, we need to choose 3 teams, in total we need to read 6 books. This doesn’t seem hard, but we should choose them now so that we can think about what we’ll be reading. I wouldn’t mind rereading Harry Potter and a few teams have suggested it :)
As for the second part, I have a doubt: are two books connected if they have the same author?
Thanks the post Diana!I can read Room (team Pluto). I have it downloaded already on my Kindle. It was next to read anyways, and I think it will work for some cards. :-)

I have the same feeling. I guess the book we read should be more connected to the original book per se - setting, characters, cover - and not to the author, publisher, those things.

Agreed - feel like it might be "too easy..." Unless they say we can :-)
I have 4 books from team Mensa locked and loaded! So that may be an easy one to knock out 2 of the recommended books from a team (it would only take me a day for Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things and day and a half for Ready Player One).I didn't see anything saying that we need to finish the first part before moving on to the second. Did I miss that or does it not matter?
Jessica wrote: "I have 4 books from team Mensa locked and loaded! So that may be an easy one to knock out 2 of the recommended books from a team (it would only take me a day for [book:Furiously Happy: A Funny Book..."I didn’t see it either! I hope it doesn’t matter :)
I see some books I already have:Team Milky Way - In the Woods, Stillhouse Lake (I already read this one but I have the second book.)
Team Haumea or Team Betelgeuse - The Sun is also a Star
Team Kuiper - The Sea of Tranquility
All right! Let me check out the mini-challenge, and I'll get something set up for us to track.Same author does work for a connection. In fact, same book works for a connection! :)
Christine wrote: "I added The Unremembered Girl to the tracking log."I saw you on there as I was adding The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. :)

Oh, nice!
I was planning on reading Cinder next so I wouldn't mind choosing Pluto for the first part of the challenge.
Part 1:Team: Mensa - Jessica will read 2 from them
Team: Pluto - Kristel & Sarah
Team:
Part 2 - 2 per team
(Books that connect to other recommendations in some way)
Team: Hydrus - Laura
Team Triangulum has recommend both The Others and A Court of Thorns and Roses. I'm planning to do one more (at least) in each series, so I can do that one. But I'm looking to see if any team recommended Harry Potter and one of those. :)

Can't do Team Kuiper, as that's us. Sad, really, since we have the best list! :)
Team Milky Way also has Harry Potter. So shall we put them down for our 3rd team in the first part?
Then the rest of us can start working on matching books to the other teams.
Also, an update on how we're doing:We've completed all the difficult letters, as well as all the color cards. We've done 2 of the 3 Wild Draw 4s, and the book I'm currently reading will work for the 3rd one.
We have completed 4 hands, and only need 1 book to complete a 5th!

That's a great age for introducing some great books!
I'm planning to start
tomorrow. Team Hydrus has recommend
. I'm going to connect them by the single woman on the cover.

Hey team. I’m so sorry for being MIA these past few weeks. I’ve had life happen to me and a few of my friends, and my free time was eaten up being there for them. Thankfully things are settled now and I will have some updates on books tomorrow.

So many people have suggested this series to me but I just never picked it up. Glad I did tho! Loved it!

I noticed that. From the cover art I was expecting something like the black dagger brotherhood ***swoon*** Still, I enjoyed it without being racy.

Hey Chrystal,
I'm glad things got back on track for you! :)
For the second part of the mini challenge I'll connect
with
from Team Haumea with both having lions on the cover, and
with
from Team Muska with both having canoes on the cover.
I've put a copy of the Mini challenge spreadsheet in our tracking spreadsheet, so we can play with it without messing up the main spreadsheet. So go ahead and enter your books:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

If you liked that one, you will love Written in Red. I actually found this one through my mother just a few months after the first book came out. I have re-read it every year since, in preparation for the new one. So I have read this book 6 times in 6 years! :)
Laura wrote: "Can't do Team Kuiper, as that's us. Sad, really, since we have the best list! :)"I was being funny, but in the captain's group there are 3 or 4 teams talking about reading from our list. :)
