And with that, we have 1 each left for 5, 7, & 8. After that we'll start earning points even faster because we'll be filling in hands more quickly!

A while ago, we asked you to head to THIS THREAD to post three (3) favourite books/series, up to a maximum of five (5) for those of us who have a hard time deciding ;-), you would recommend to others.

As some of you have already guessed, this will in some way be incorporated into an upcoming optional mini challenge. (Nope, our lips are sealed still, we are not going to tell you what it is :-p)

However, a surprisingly large number of players have not posted any recommendations yet. Unfortunately, that might make things difficult for your fellow players as well as yourselves.

Please, please, post 3-5 recommendations in the above mentioned thread. If you don't, we may be forced to take unwanted action as a result.

Did you enjoy them? I loved those books as a kid! And I recently read the first one to my kids. We read a chapter (or more) of a classic, great book (usually one I loved as a child) every day as part of our school day. :)

I did enjoy them. I liked the first one better. I started reading it to my son last week, but he couldn't sit still for it. I'm trying to get him to read it on his own. I'm working on the third one now. :)

Yes, yes, you have guessed it already - the recommendations were not only for our pleasure but there was something more to it ;-)

Since some of you have already added a few of the recommendations to your TBR shelves, we figured that would be an ideal title for our February Mini Challenge. ;-)

All info for the mini challenge can be found HERE. Have fun!

(Co-)Captains, your spreadsheets will be updated with a new sheet for the mini challenge within the next 24 hours.

Diana Costa | 1027 comments Hey, I guess we need to talk about the mini challenge!
I understand that in total we need to read 21x2=42 books if we want to complete the two parts of the challenge. We can do it :)
As for the first part, we need to choose 3 teams, in total we need to read 6 books. This doesn’t seem hard, but we should choose them now so that we can think about what we’ll be reading. I wouldn’t mind rereading Harry Potter and a few teams have suggested it :)
As for the second part, I have a doubt: are two books connected if they have the same author?

message 119: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments Thanks the post Diana!

I can read Room (team Pluto). I have it downloaded already on my Kindle. It was next to read anyways, and I think it will work for some cards. :-)

I have the same feeling. I guess the book we read should be more connected to the original book per se - setting, characters, cover - and not to the author, publisher, those things.

Agreed - feel like it might be "too easy..." Unless they say we can :-)

message 122: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I have 4 books from team Mensa locked and loaded! So that may be an easy one to knock out 2 of the recommended books from a team (it would only take me a day for Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things and day and a half for Ready Player One).

I didn't see anything saying that we need to finish the first part before moving on to the second. Did I miss that or does it not matter?

I didn’t see it either! I hope it doesn’t matter :)

message 124: by Christine (new)

Christine | 64 comments I see some books I already have:
Team Milky Way - In the Woods, Stillhouse Lake (I already read this one but I have the second book.)
Team Haumea or Team Betelgeuse - The Sun is also a Star
Team Kuiper - The Sea of Tranquility

Part 2 - 2 per team

Team: Hydrus - Laura

message 131: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Team Triangulum has recommend both The Others and A Court of Thorns and Roses. I'm planning to do one more (at least) in each series, so I can do that one. But I'm looking to see if any team recommended Harry Potter and one of those. :)

Can't do Team Kuiper, as that's us. Sad, really, since we have the best list! :)

Team Milky Way also has Harry Potter. So shall we put them down for our 3rd team in the first part?

Then the rest of us can start working on matching books to the other teams.

message 134: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2892 comments Also, an update on how we're doing:

We've completed all the difficult letters, as well as all the color cards. We've done 2 of the 3 Wild Draw 4s, and the book I'm currently reading will work for the 3rd one.

We have completed 4 hands, and only need 1 book to complete a 5th!

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 308 comments For the second part of the mini challenge I'll connect Many Waters (A Wrinkle in Time Quintet, #4) by Madeleine L'Engle with The Chronicles of Narnia (Chronicles of Narnia, #1-7) by C.S. If you liked that one, you will love Written in Red. I actually found this one through my mother just a few months after the first book came out. I have re-read it every year since, in preparation for the new one. So I have read this book 6 times in 6 years! :)
