Yes, yes, you have guessed it already - the recommendations were not only for our pleasure but there was something more to it ;-)

Since some of you have already added a few of the recommendations to your TBR shelves, we figured that would be an ideal title for our February Mini Challenge. ;-)

All info for the mini challenge can be found HERE. Have fun!

(Co-)Captains, your spreadsheets will be updated with a new sheet for the mini challenge within the next 24 hours.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 839 comments Teri, both your picks are included in the books recommended by our team. Now, it is possible that some other teams might have recommended the same series, but I would rather avoid that situation (since the rules say teams other than yours)

So, as a team, we have to pick 3 other teams for Part 1 of this challenge!

Therefore, I suggest, all of us jot down the three teams they want to read the recommendations from, and we can choose the most common ones as our 3 choices for this part of the challenge?

Works?

Part I

Apoorv's three picks!

1. Team Haumea - History Is All You Left Me
2. Team Pyxis - King's Cage (Since I have read the recommended Red Queen)
3. Team Carina - Beartown

History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera King's Cage (Red Queen, #3) by Victoria Aveyard Beartown by Fredrik Backman

K (kai_la) | 25 comments I've got a backload of library books I have to get through, so my next reads are pretty much set, but I did manage to find a couple teams with recs for books I've got planned!

1. Team Milky Way - Stillhouse Lake (and I'd do the next one, Killman Creek)
2. Team Haumea - The Dry (and I'd do the next one, Force of Nature)
3. Team Musca - ^^ also recommended The Dry

Also, Apoorv, looks like Team Musca recommended Red Queen, too!

Oh yay! Nice! Seems like we have two common teams. Let's see what the other's choose and we can lock in our 3 Part 1 teams! :=)

message 265: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 839 comments Also, it may be important to choose the right part 1 teams, because the remaining teams will be our part 2 teams!

So, 18 teams, 2 books each to find a connection from for part 2. Now, that might just be a little tricky!
Time to do some digging!

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Mini challenge planning
(updated and deleted my previous post)

Part One
We only need 6 books. 2 from 3 teams.

I have added each team and their # of recs. For part 1, we are best to use 3 teams with the least amount of recommendations so that we have the most possible options for part 2 (connecting books).

The 5 teams with the least # of recommendations are:

Venus (Lisa can read 1, Karen can read 1)
Triangulum (Lisa can read 1, can can read 1)
Pyxis (Apoorv can read 1)
Carina (Apoorv can read 1)

I know these don't include Kaila's books, but we just have to pick 2 books from these teams:
one from Pyxis ;
or one from Carina;

then we know which 3 teams we are doing and we have the whole of part one set. Kalia's can then be connected to part 2 (e.g. Force of Nature can connect to The Dry as both being based in country VIC)

That then leaves us with the most possible options for part 2, and hopefully everyone will find a connection for their existing reads.

Thoughts?

EDIT

Part One
Team 1
Triangulum
Two for the dough -Karen
Born in Death -Lisa

Team 2
Venus
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society -Karen
A curious beginning -Lisa

Team 3
Pyxis
King's Cage -Apoorv
Night Shifts Black -Teri

If everyone can now start to think about Part Two. How your books can fit with teams that are NOT Triangulum, Venus, or Pyxis

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments sorry, edited the above post again. I will read one from Triangulum and one from Venus. Lisa is doing one from each of those teams
So that gives us 2/3 teams covered

Kunal, in case you do end up changing your book, please do check, if you could possibly find a match for the book of your choice, with any book that has been recommended by any other team, apart from Sculptor, Triangulum, Venus, and Pyxis.

Details about what constitutes a match and other recommendations can be found here.

Also, don't forget to give a shout-out here if and when you do decide on a new book, so that everyone else is aware of the same.

message 284: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (last edited Feb 13, 2018 08:33PM) (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Good points Apoorv

As I've been looking at part 2, I think it may be a bit tricky and require some co-ordination and effort to find "matches"

So as people know what they want to read, and how it may match, feel free to shout it out here so we can add it to our spreadsheet. We can only read 2 books for each team so this is one of those times where I think it will help, if you want to, to "claim" spots.
If you're not that kind of reader and don't want to "claim" spots, that is totally fine. Just make sure you have a look at what it can 'match' for of the spots left once you're done :)

edit-- I'm also just waiting for Europe to wake up so I can check with the UNO Pixie's about if some connections will count (e.g. same author name) and will let you know asap

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Finished Silver Silence (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #1; Psy-Changeling, #16) by Nalini Singh for Red 7. Added to spreadsheet and shelf.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments So do we have to finish part 1 before we read the books for part 2?

For Part 2 I can read from Mensa Edenbrooke (Edenbrooke, #1) by Julianne Donaldson - I will be reading Beyond Scandal and Desire (Sins for All Seasons, #1) by Lorraine Heath . Connection - woman with blue dress on both covers.

From Musca - Blindsighted (Grant County, #1) by Karin Slaughter - I will be reading Skin Privilege (Grant County series 6) by Karin Slaughter Same Characters in both books.

Does this work?

message 293: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments So part two you can read whatever provided you can find a way to connect it to a book from another team’s recommendations(just can’t be the same teams we use for part 1 or our own). And we can only have two books per team (if you check out the Feb Mini fab on our team s/sheet it may help)
It’s pretty open how to connect - cover items, authors who are friends, same book, same character names etc.
