Theodore | 6 comments Hi everyone! I'm trying to identify a wonderful short sci-fi story I read in the 1970s when I was a kid. I need the title, author, and NAME OF THE SCI-FI ANTHOLOGY in which it was published. The plot is:

A group of scientists send a time-traveler into the future with orders to learn as much as he can about it, return to the present, and report. He gets back and reports that he cannot remember anything except for just one thing: he tells the de-briefer "I remember only that they showed me everything, and then gave me the choice whether or not to remember it when I went back to the present." The de-briefer says "and you chose to forget? How extraordinary!" The time-traveller replies "Yes, isn't it strange? One can't help wondering why."

Does anyone else remember this story? Thanks!

Ayshe | 4720 comments "The Choice" by Wayland Hilton-Young? It was answer to that scifi.stackexchange.com question: https://scifi.stackexchange.com/quest...

isfdb.org has list of publications it's been included in: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cg... 50 Short Science Fiction Tales and Spectrum IV are among them.

Shelved as 50 Short Science Fiction Tales by Isaac Asimov. Just let us know if it's a different anthology.
