Olivia Lo | 7 comments I'm studying in translation and interpretation studies, and it's time to decide on the topic for my master degree thesis. I've decided it will be a discussion and analysis about the functions and future impacts of books written (not translated) by professional translators and interpreters.

Books that I am NOT looking for:
- Handbooks or textbooks that teach the readers how to improve their language or translation or interpretation skills
- Memoirs in which interpreters wrote about their observations of important political figures or historical events because they were part of it, such as Hitler’s Interpreter, Gandhi's Interpreter, Memoirs of an Interpreter

Books that I am looking for:
- The genre can be memoir, autobiography, or other kinds of non-fiction
- In which the author shares his or her own experiences and passion in translating or interpreting that are inspirational and practical
- The likes of the following ones:
1. If This Be Treason: Translation and Its Dyscontents, A Memoir by Gregory Rabassa https://www.amazon.com/---/0811216195
2. White House Interpreter: The Art of Interpretation by Harry Obst https://www.amazon.com/---/1452006156
3. Writer in Residence: Memoir of a Literary Translator by Mark Spitzer https://www.amazon.com/---/1608010201
4. Life behind an Author's Works--Memoir of a Translator: How I Came to Translate Witold Gombrowicz and the Many Faces of Thom by Danuta Borchardt https://www.amazon.com/---/1521040419

If you happen to know any books like these, could you be so kind as to put forward your recommendations? Or, even better, do you know any authors who have written this kind of books who might want to be interviewed, since I'm also thinking about interviewing the authors. Thanks a million!

You may be already doing this, but I would look through the bibliographies of books like:

The Translator's Invisibility: A History of Translation

Theories of Translation: An Anthology of Essays from Dryden to Derrida

or check out this listopia....

and this person's translation shelf....

Thanks for your help. Translating Christ looks like what I'm looking for!
