Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Eagle's Conquest - Another great entry, the battles are tense and the characters are interesting. The blending of fiction and history is handled really well.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments 14 - Reread - So good, still love it and one of my fav books. Looking forward to reading the follow up books set in the same universe.

Original - Wow, really interesting and impressive. Had me hooked from the start, really enjoyed the characters and the overall intrigue. Plus the whole story seems pretty unique. Good Stuff.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Burning White - Wow so much to process. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I will be vague.

Overall the book was great and had a lot of fantastic moments, but I am not 100% sure how i feel about the final act. At worse I may be slightly disappointed but even if that is how i end up feeling, It would not lower the amazement that the entire series is. Great characters, amazing magic and world building. Super twists, did not see them all coming, even those with foreshadowing lol

Basically, you should read this series. Weeks has improved considerably as an author and this is now one of my top series ever.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Fold - I don't know what it is about the way Peter Clines writes but I am always gripped and just want to keep reading. I know they may not be for everyone but it works for me.

Another great book, good characters and setting and story. Also loved the nods to the previous entry in the series.

Onto book 3.

I'm really looking foward to reading it.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Dead Moon - While i still enjoyed it, the connections to the previous series were minimal and could have just been a standard alien entity. After the previous book ending with the characters meeting up with the heroes from book 1, i assumed we would have a follow up to that. Instead we are thrown vastly into the future and given a zombies on the moon story (enjoyable though). My main concern is a) the "Spacewhales" are from different dimensions, why is this one in prime earth (assuming this is prime earth I guess) b) if the next one in the series is in the past, we know they win as earth is around until the 2200's

Still it was a fun read, just have my concerns.

message 108: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: The Apocalypse Suite - Honestly, I am pretty disappointed. It felt really rushed and the conclusion was... meh? Also there was really no character growth or answers given. Overall just felt flat. I will read the next one because A) I really enjoyed the show and B) I already bought it lol.

message 109: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 2: Dallas - Yeah it was ok, nothing special again. Barely any overarching plot worth mentioning, just "cool" scene after scene. Not terrible enough to not finish the final book, but not something I would recommend.

message 110: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 3: Hotel Oblivion - Way to scattered. Characters introduced with no backstory or reason, written as if we are expected to know. Barely any plot and honestly just not interesting. Art can be hard to follow and Scientific Man is almost a straight rip on Dr Manhattan. Stick to the TV show.

No idea how this is nominated for 'Best Graphic Novel' in 2019

message 111: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Starsight - Another (surprise surprise) great Sanderson novel. Good follow up to Skyward. This one felt more YA than the last one to me but was still fantastic. Looking forward to the 3rd book. Happy for this to be my final book of the year :D

DOOOOMSLUG

message 112: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Star Wars: Darth Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith, Vol. 1: Imperial Machine - Good Start, great artwork and leaves you wanting more. Better than Rise of Skywalker (but rubbing a lemon in your eye is better than that.)

message 113: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Star Wars: Darth Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith, Vol. 2: Legacy's End - Pretty good follow up, great artwork. Love Vader being a bad ass.

message 114: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Star Wars: Darth Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith, Vol. 3: The Burning Seas - Good stuff, surprised it is not a full story across the 4 vol's but still was good to see the Mon Calamari get some background. Onto vol 4

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Northern Lights - So far so good. World and plot are intriguing and Lyra and Pan is adorable. On to book 2

I think it's strange that it's called Northern Lights in your country and Golden Compass in others.

good old regional changes. They usually change the name in the states to something more marketable for them. Rivers of London is called Midnight Riot in US for example. haha

message 118: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Subtle Knife - Good follow up, kind of feels to me like 'Terry Pratchett wrote a serious fantasy book'. It got that whimsical feeling but has an overall darker and more serious tone. Looking forward to the finale.

message 119: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Star Wars: Darth Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith, Vol. 4: Fortress Vader - Good story and art. Good ending and overall it was a fun read, but I wouldn't say it is a must.

I think it's strange that it's called North...

Money makes the world go 'round.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments The Amber Spyglass - Overall a satisfying if bittersweet ending, followed the previous books in having problems being fixed abruptly or seemingly out of nowhere. Still happy to have read it and would recommend to anyone looking for a Whimsical blend of fantasy and scifi. Would have preferred more Lyra as she felt like she took a bit of a backseat compared to the previous two.

message 122: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Sourcery - Another fun entry. So many great lines and moments. Plus it's Rincewind and Luggage so you know its going to be great. People keep saying Discworld doesn't hit it stride until later, yet I am enjoying this so much already. Makes me pretty excited for whats to come.

message 123: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Planetfall - Well shiz, that hooked me right from the start. Been a while since I smashed a book so quickly. Really enjoy when main characters have flaws that feel natural and believable. (Part of the reason The Expanse is so great). I also loved the way Emma Newman weaved the intrigue into the pacing of the plot. Not giving away to much but not holding so much back you lose interest. Great balance, very unique world as well. Much looking forward to book 2.

message 124: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Wyrd Sisters - Really liked this one. Liked both the new witches Magrat Garlick and Nanny Ogg. Death getting stage fright was fantastic.

message 125: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments After Atlas - God damn...

Took a left turn in direction after the previous book by becoming a detective cyberpunk story but I am glad it did. Fascinating story and has two great moments that both leave you with a feeling of being trapped and great dread.

Emma is climbing my author ranking very fast.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Pyramids - Bit of an overall slower story, that really picked up towards the end. Enjoyed the Discworld take on Egyptology which is already interesting itself.

Great job. One of these days I'm going to tackle Discworld.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments I find that if i do them one book in between something else it helps space them out and prevents burnout (so far). I don't think it doing them in a row would be a good idea haha. Just too many of them.

message 129: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Before Mars - Well, given how the previous book finished, this one had an unrelenting sense of dread from the start.

Another great book, again a different style but it worked. The little nods to the previous books were great (loved when someone mentions the Circle towards the end). Look forward to the next book.

Marc (authorguy) | 393 comments Aaron wrote: "Nice! Death is such a great character, I imagine that book is amazing haha"

Not necessarily, although it probably is in this case. Even the best character can be ruined if you see them too much. Pratchett's Death is a great character in small doses, but I don't know if I would want an entire book about him.

If it's like the first in the death series, (mort) he still isn't the main character, there is just more of him then usual.

message 134: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Guards! Guards! - Well damn, this may be the best one so far. Had a pretty consistent story (much like Wyrd Sisters) and I really liked the new main characters. It was clever to switch from Carrot to Vimes as the main pov through the book. Humor, as always, top notch. Looking forward to future City Watch storylines.

message 135: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Atlas Alone - Ok so Emma doesn’t like happy endings lol, that’s 4 from 4. But this one felt the most personal.

Overall another great story, (view spoiler)

Good to see some characters from previous books back in focus and I am really keen for the future of this series. So much potential, (view spoiler) Can’t wait for the release of the next book.

message 136: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Eric - Short sharp and fun. No where near as bad as people made it out to be. Love that Death gets pissed whenever Rincewind is mentioned.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments We Are Legion (We Are Bob) - Good start, not really were I saw it going but i like the concept and the plot so far. Will move on to book 2.

Kevin | 121 comments Love the Bob books! So much fun

message 139: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments For We Are Many - Good follow up, though it is getting hard to keep track of all the Bobs. Really enjoyed Howard, Rykers and Bob's story. Interested to see where the Others go.

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments All These Worlds - Great way to end the first trilogy, the resolution to the major problem was smart and the sub plots played out well. Happy to recommend

message 141: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Wool Omnibus - Good Start, has a few good twists and turns and some tense moments. Will continue on

message 142: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Shift - Hmm, while I get they were important to the overall story, and knowing more about the history was important and something I want, i can’t help but feel it could have been done better. It feels a bit padded out and overly slow, you could probably remove the entire mission section and not have much change. Still once the conclusion happened it was a bit better. Will move onto to book 3.

message 143: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Dust - Yeah it was good, but the ending leaves a lot of questions unanswered, plus it really isn’t a happy ending (view spoiler) Overall the series itself was interesting, but i didn’t find it all amazing as people have been saying. Don’t regret the time but also wouldn’t make it a must read. One major flaw I have is side characters are not developed at all. (view spoiler)

message 144: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Terminus - Was still great being Peter Clines, but was probably the weakest of the 4 so far. Given the end result the book could have never happened and the overall story wouldn't change. Still great though

message 145: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Dune - What a strange book.. I can see why it spawned so many more sequel/prequels but yeah it's a bizarre opening book, in a good way. A lot to go but looking forward to them.

I've never read the books but I've seen the movies. They were bizarre.

message 147: by Aaron (new)

Aaron (zalejin) | 248 comments Dawnshard - Been a while since I read something for here. (been rereading Sanderson) but even in a novella Sanderson nails it. Getting me so hyped for book 4! Won't spoil anything but its got The Lopen, nuff said.
