His poetry is so musical, a lot like jazz. It's hard to separate out one poem and have it stand alone, but the collection is wonderful!

I liked du Maurier's writing, but hated the heroine. And the villain. And the hero (?). The heroine was a child-like creature who things happened to. Then we had the contrasting bad women. The ending felt anticlimactic. And she said something at the beginning about missing her poor dog, so I read the entire thing with fear that something was going to happen to him. And you know what? We don't know what happened to him, if anything, because the end just dropped off.

Gorgeous, profound. I wanted to mark so many pages.

This book was so fun I couldn't put it down. Serious elements of food porn and fashion porn. Lifestyle porn maybe? And then frothy romance. Shades of Pretty Woman, too, but not in a creepy way.

This book crushed me. Ward is a beautiful writer and I've loved all her books, but this one hurt so much. I think I should never read books with dogs in them. (Whether anything happens to the dog or not, I spend the whole book waiting for it - see Rebecca.) This family had so little, and yet still lost so much of what they did have. And it didn't seem bleak for all of that, but I still couldn't stand to watch it happen.

This didn't break a lot of new ground, but gave structure to how to deal with the issues.

oops, forgot this one! Julie recommended, and it was sweet and interesting.

I appreciated this retelling of P&P. I especially liked that some of the people who Austen had as caricatures were more nuanced. And the focus on goals other than marriage.

I really wanted to love this, and at least as far as the writing went I absolutely did. But Atwood seems to judge women so harshly. The narrator reminded me of the women who tell you how they don't like women because of the drama, while perpetuating a lot of it themselves. Akin to the Cool Girl archetype.

I love a book with a soundtrack. But this was actually foreign information for me, making me wonder if it was the lack of reporting of black women's concerns at the time, or if I just wasn't paying attention. I think I'm going to read again while checking out as much as I can of references.

Whew, I mainlined this series so far, but now I get to settle in to visiting this cute town just once a year!

This broke rules that I didn't even realize memoirs have. It was missing some of the internalized gaze you always find - his mother was woven throughout it to the point where she seemed as developed as he did, but not as understood (by me, not by him). And he didn't tie his life up with a bow at the end, but left me on edge and concerned. I want to read everything he has written.

Wow. Chuck found me an awful Christmas romance for a stocking stuffer!
