Happy New Year!
Nice to have chance to visit and maybe do a bit of spoiling.
RL/GR friend just returned from 1st in 2 years visit to son and Grandcats. Think she spent a good deal of visit spoiling both Grandcats.
I have read books on my IPad but I still mostly read physical books. I tend to fall asleep when I read and fear that I'll drop my IPad.
A great reason to randomly add your own book to the nearest library, you know, like in The Abortion...https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifest...

How fun for him and a great idea for a kids' program!

Okay ... some publisher needs to get this book and mass produce it!
Get the kid an agent!
Gosh, but I love it when I order books from 2 different libraries weeks apart and they both arrive on the same day. And they want them back in 2 weeks instead of 3...

There are authors I read who have similar release schedules and one of my libraries has 2 weeks as regular check out period.
Finished a short book called Madonna's Memoirs. It is not listed on Amazon or Goodreads so I'm sure it was meant to be a self-published memoir as a keepsake for family only. The author has ALS so she knew she didn't have long to live and wants to write things down for her family. She really didn't do anything very exciting but I'm sure her family treasured this, although one of them apparently donated it to the used book sale that I bought this at. I have a short booklet that my cousin wrote about my grandmother and I just love it. So if you see a book at a sale that looks like it is a memoir published for family I would recommend picking them up. Sometimes they are not too interesting for outsiders but sometimes they are little gems in disguise and worth the few cents they cost.

Interesting.
I wonder if those reading paper read for longer periods than those reading ebooks.

What an interesting article - I do prefer paper over digital.

I have a friend who published a memoir ... actually her children gave her a "ghost writer" as a Christmas gift one year to record her memoir. She was a child who was sent on one of the ships from England to America during WW2. It was a fascinating read. She came to our book club when we discussed it.
Stephen King called in to testify about what sounds to me like an antitrust action against Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster:https://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireS...
Just sent for an ILL loan copy of Bag Man: The Wild Crimes, Audacious Cover-Up, and Spectacular Downfall of a Brazen Crook in the White House. It just feels as if it were time to catch up on Spiro Agnew.
The new book page is pretty useless to me as a reader.Information is more important to me than picture of cover but the information I want to see now requires clicks and/or scrolling. Scrolling and layout are hard on my eyes. That doesn't mean I'm leaving Goodreads but I can find book information elsewhere.
Another reason to be thankful for online access to libraries.

Wonderful!
My library is hosting an Escape Room for adults who want to participate in Oceans of Possibilities this fall. And other in-person events, too. What? Have any of you hosted or participated in that kind of event??
Variety of in person events at local branch and others in system. I'm not planning to attend.1. Mindfulness for children (local in person)
2. Making a Difference: Community Care Packages (local in person)
3. Making a Difference: Upcycling (local in person)
4. Let’s Get Gardening (local in person)
5. Family Story Time (All Ages) (local in person)
The only local book discussion is part of system book read.
Nearest other Library system is doing in person and virtual events including book based, Harry Potter or Percy Jackson, Virtual Escape Room.
edited to add some events

The library I work at is celebrating the library's 90th anniversary with music, crafts and surprises. Of course, the whole staff is to be present to work it. I was already scheduled to work the desk so that is where I will be stationed.

Helps if you have a team of people who know one another and can use each other's strengths.

Were any of them book themed? I'd heard of movie themed but not book themed. Now that I think of it I don't know if the library ones are book or movie themed. Wouldn't matter much for the Harry Potter but Percy Jackson is another story.
Oh that's cute. Of course, I imagine most minutes are covered by obscure works; they're just showing the dozen most famous.
Give our new moderator Julie (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/5...) a warm welcome.
As most of you know I am not very active in this group and she kindly offered her services. I know all of you will be as kind to her as you have been to me.
