Louise | 1585 comments Here is an interesting list that CBC just put out, "95 must-read books from 2017, as recommended by you"

http://www.cbc.ca/books/95-must-read-...

I have only read 6 of the 36 Canadian fiction books but most of the others are on my TBR pile. Many of these books have been discussed here and two books on the list of Canadian fiction are by our own members!!! Michael Kaan and Maia Caron

Navarra (tri_nav) | 4 comments Thanks for posting this list. Many of these I haven't seen before.

It's a compact list for sure, I counted 8 that I was able to read and one that I am working on. I have many on my tbr pile as well. Always love these lists...!

Mj | 1195 comments Thanks ❀ Susan - a great resource list for Bingo Square G3 - A Book Published in 2018. Might be worth posting this list to the G3 Bingo Link as well. :-)

Another CBC list of books to watch for...

message 11: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1585 comments An excellent list! I've got Chanson douce (the original French The Perfect Nanny) on hold at the library. This has actually been out for a couple years but only now getting a lot of press because of the English translation.

message 12: by Alan (new)

Alan | 626 comments I think Maureen Corrigan on NPR (who I really like a lot) did a review on the NPR podcast last night about the Perfect Nanny.
Interesting take on the book.

some books, coming out in August, to look forward to. I received an ARC of Starlight and after the book was done, kept wanting to go back to those characters: http://www.cbc.ca/books/10-canadian-b...

and some fiction too: http://www.cbc.ca/books/26-works-of-f...

Love these lists as it enables me to put holds on the books at the library and get them while they are brand new!

message 22: by Story (new)

Story (storyheart) Great fiction list! I've added a few to the TBR and am most excited to be going to see Kate Atkinson in Sept just a few days after Transcription is released.

Story (storyheart) Vancouver; it's part of the Writer's Festival. Maybe she'll come to TO as well?

Not like we really need more book suggestions but here is a new list of suggestions from CBC: https://www.cbc.ca/books/the-cbc-book...

message 31: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1585 comments It's a good list. I've already read Washington Black, I am about to start reading Moon of the Crusted Snow after just finishing Legacy this morning, and am also about to start All Things Consoled: A Daughter's Memoir in audio.

Others I want to read are Tanya Talaga's new book, The Woo-Woo: How I Survived Ice Hockey, Drug Raids, Demons, and My Crazy Chinese Family and Mamaskatch: A Cree Coming of Age

Thank you Louise. I just looked at the nlrb lists - good suggestion. I love the Canada Reads lists but I also like to read authors from other countries. I love that they list by country. Also great breakdown for children's books. I have suggested this site to three other avid readers already.

message 34: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1585 comments I discovered NYRB Classics a year ago and got a subscription that I absolutely love. Books and authors previously unknown to me for the large part, but top quality. There is a group of afficiandos on GR. I certainly want to make it my goal to read more of their books in the future.

any one read any of these? I read Albatross which was ok (not my favourite of his books) and When We Were Vikings which I won as an ARC and was excellent.

Kathleen | 334 comments Thanks for the list Story❤️. Looks like some very good books.

message 41: by Mj (new)

Mj | 1195 comments Thanks @ Susan and @ Story❤️ for the book list posts. Haven't read "any" of them, although I've read some other works by a number of the authors on the list.

While there was some duplication in the two lists, I was surprised there wasn't more. Such great lists and I added a lot new books to my "possibiliy pile."

message 42: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 315 comments Thanks @Story heart! I added some of these to my to read list.
