What Are You Reading? - 2018
I read Flowers in the Attic a few years ago. I didn't like it at all, although whether I would have liked it more as a teenager I'm not sure.
Scratch Origin - just realised it's an audiobook not print version. I accidentally downloaded it on my kindle and now i can't download it on my phone. So that's out now. So moving on swiftly to Unwind instead. Probably use it for zodiac.
Sandra wrote: "Haruki Murakami's fans, what is a good book of his to start? I am inclined between The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and 1Q84, but maybe non of these?"I really enjoyed Wind Up Bird. Haven't tackled 1Q84 yet. Wind Up is a great middle ground for Murakami. Not almost fantasy like Hard-Boiled Wonderland, but not as real world as Norwegian Wood. But still be prepared for some signature confusion/fantastical moments.
Margo wrote: "i listened to book 1 of IQ84. i wasn't impressed enough to continue the story. that man has a boobie complex - breasts all over the place ;-p"He's definitely a boob man, not an arse man.
Rusalka wrote: "Sandra wrote: "Haruki Murakami's fans, what is a good book of his to start? I am inclined between The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and 1Q84, but maybe non of th..."Thank you, Rusalka. I will go with The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle then.
I finished Flowers for Algernon yesterday and rated it 5 stars. I cried. A lot.I will start today Your Heart Is a Muscle the Size of a Fist for my real life book club. The author will visit our town in March and we are planning to go see him. We have been doing this for a few years now with all the "Center County Reads" winners, and it has been a great experience.

Google it when you are half way, it's the first images that come up.
I finished Trouble in Mudbug, and at a loss for what I'll start tonight. I have 3 books on hold at the library, for various challenges or other. They'll probably come through in the next day or two and all at once.I think I'll start Water. It can fit in my zodiac challenge.
"The match struck and sputtered. Victor tried again. he put match head to phosphate strip with the gentle pressure of one long finger and the thing sparked and caught and for the briefest of the moments he held a yellow flame."Your Heart Is a Muscle the Size of a Fist by Sunil Yapa
Meh. As the 24% I've read so far.

Yeah. I saw your rating yesterday, Lilisa. I get the author is trying to "build suspense" but I am getting bored. In any case, I thought I was posting in the "first lines" thread, and just realized I am lost. Sleep deprivation is so unfair...

Weekend's coming up soon - hopefully you can catch up on some sleep. Is your year trip coming up soon?
Kristie wrote: "Janice, what did you think of Trouble in Mudbug?"I gave it 3 stars. I thought the author tried hard to be funny and missed the mark. There were some implausible situations as well.
I've been reading the Miss Fortune series written by the same author and really enjoying it. This series (if you can judge from the first book) can't even compare.
I started Water last night, and I'm done. Hopefully, during the day, one of my library holds will come in. Alice has been 10 days in shipment.
Janice wrote: "I started Water last night, and I'm done."I saw your post. Except for the beautiful covers, it is not worth the time., really. I am pushing hard to finish the last one.
Peggy wrote: "I'm going to start Sarah's Key today for the monthly challenge."And as a good twin I am following. :)
I am reading Cinder for the group read and La Belle Sauvage for my book club on 12th.I am holding up Anna on our buddy read Behind Her Eyesand she is going on a dream on a dream holiday later this month :-)
Very poor planing on my part!!
Finished and really enjoyed I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes With Death
My review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/2269753812
I finished Whistling Past the Graveyard. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane to 1963. It lightly touched on the social problems of the time without it becoming heavy and dark. I'll start Three.
I'm in a bit of limbo right now. I don't want to get started on something too consuming when there's books for challenges and group reads that should be available any time now.
My dfn shelf is filling faster than my read shelf. Three bit the dust after 3 hours of listening. In gophering for the Toppler, I was looking for MC who was teacher/professor. I downloaded The Piano Teacher, but someone else has taken that spot on our team. So, I figured that since it will fit the Zodiac challenge and the Leftover Stew challenge, I should just go ahead and read it now. It does have a deadline for return, and with the Toppler and my twin read coming up, maybe I shouldn't tempt fate.
I know that feeling!I got my shiny, new, library CD's of The Fire Child today. Yay, I'll get to find out how the story ends despite mechanical failure during my last attempt.
I am really enjoying La Belle Sauvage. Michael Sheens narration is something special. I always love Philip Pullman.
I've started Behind Her Eyes alone with Anna for the twin challenge. It is good so far with lots of discussion points.
I'm about 75% of the way through The Haunting of Henry Twist. I'm enjoying it very much, it's been a surprising book for me in that I didn't expect it to have quite such an emotional impact. It's very thought provoking, very honest and very real.I'm also making slow but steady progress on The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock. It's enjoyable but not quite as good as I hoped it was going to be.
I'm just starting Heart's Blood for the fairytale or fairytale retelling group read. I have enjoyed the other Juliet Marillier books I have read and I also love a Beauty and the Beast retelling so this should be right up my street. I'm hoping to make some decent progress before the toppler begins on Saturday.
I finished Sarah's Key which was quite a disappointment. I'll continue with Oathbringer until the toppler start. I don't want to start another book I have to put aside for a week. I've got a travel magazine to read on the train tomorrow, but I just thought I could also read Hiroshima. I'll see tomorrow.
I started my the in book yesterday - The Quantum Thief. It's suitably odd. Still reading Unwind too.
Janice wrote: "It does have a deadline for return, and with the Toppler and my twin read coming up, maybe I shouldn't tempt fate...."I can very well relate to that...!

This one could be a dnf as well. *sigh*
It's official - The Piano Teacher is a 'dnf'. What is going on? Three abandoned books in one week. Ugh!I won't start another audiobook until the toppler. Maybe I can finish Alice before it starts, and then it's a fresh new slate.
Are you in a reading slump Janice? Or just really bad luck? You should pick up something easy that you know you'll like :)

Arrrg, I hope next one is good, Janice.
I think it could be a reading slump. I'm having trouble trying to decide what to read next because nothing really appeals to me. Hopefully, it will pass soon,
Peggy wrote: "Definitely before the toppler I hope!"I've got a couple of light YA books planned for the beginning of the toppler, so I should be able to get through them.
Janice wrote: "I think it could be a reading slump. I'm having trouble trying to decide what to read next because nothing really appeals to me. Hopefully, it will pass soon,"I hate reading slumps. Maybe you could reread a book you really enjoyed? That often works for me.
Updating my currently reading status: I finished Sarah's Key for the monthly challenge and resumed Your Heart Is a Muscle the Size of a Fist, that is my book club pick and also fits a task in the ZZ Challenge. I also 1/3 done with A Wolf at the Table audiobook, that also happens to accidentally fit another task in the ZZ Challenge. I read the author's mother memoir The Long Journey Home a few years back.
I have put The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock on hold for now. I didn't pick it up for several days as I got distracted by the other books I'm reading and now I'm struggling to get back into it. I think it's a book that I need to read on its own to allow me to really concentrate on it. I will pick it up again in a month or two.
Thanks for the suggestions Mikayla & Lisa.I think I'll be okay if I don't start something before the toppler. I've got Alice on the go, and that should hold me over.
It's not a light fluffy book though.
I always strategize with short books for Topplers, Mikayla. I look for audiobooks under 10 hours, and books under 300 pages. I messed up on my very first toppler. It was a 24 hour one, and I had a book that was 700+ pages of tiny font. Silly me. LOL! But, I learned a lesson from that.
I'm reading Appaloosa for my first movie book on the yearly challenge. I finally had to go look at the movie trailer. I knew which character VM played, just from the writing, but I had to see who the other character was. Ed Harris, sigh....
It is nearly 1am and i can't get to sleep. I'm resuming my interrupted listen of The Fire Child. Hope it will help me not off :-/
