I forgot to add an audiobook that I have been listening to. What the Night Sings. I is really a YA story, but from the POV of a young girl and other young people who survived one of the death camps in Germany at the end of WWII. The story begins with the Allies coming in and taking over the place and rescuing all of the people still living and nursing them back to health in a re-location center.

I finished Born with Teeth on audiobook today. I gave it a low 4 stars. Tomorrow, I will start the audiobook, Children of Blood and Bone. Last night, I was drudging my way through The Dwarves. The story is good, but it's so long and drawn out. I'm only half way through and I feel like I've been reading it forever. I borrowed the book, The Broken Girls from the library and have renewed it a couple of times. There are no more renewals left. For a change of pace, I started it last night.
I didn't like The Breakdown very much. I have moved on a library book which caught me by suprise by coming in more than a month before it was due - Only Human! I have been looking forward to this final part of the trilogy :-)

I finished The Whistling Season just before..."
Ah. My real life book club loved it. It's interesting to see what might work for one doesn't for another. :)

I have the paperback of Children of Blood and Bone. Look forward to hearing what you think of it, Janice.
I started yesterday Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri for the ZZ challenge ("earth" in the title), and so far I am enjoying it. Usually I am not very lucky with short stories, but I feel comfortable with this one.

The dying hour - Rick Mofina - really good and exciting read - draws you in right from the fist page - highly recommended.

The app doesn't have the function but the webpage does.
I just finished listening to Warbreaker. Well, it's Brandon Sanderson. I have yet to find one of his I did not like. So guess what? I liked it and want the next one nowwww.
Is there a next one? I read Warbreaker in 2014. I think that made me realize not to start series that have only one published book ;-)
Peggy wrote: "Is there a next one? I read Warbreaker in 2014. I think that made me realize not to start series that have only one published book ;-)"N. it's not published. but he said he is planning one... eventually.
Glad you enjoyed it Esther. That was my first book by him. Yes there is a follow up due but no idea when.I finished Kraken at last. There was a lot good with it but it went on a bit. Now i can focus on Head On.
I've been trying (and failing) to read River of Destiny for the past week but I just can't get into it. I am putting it back on my TBR pile and I am going to read Phantom instead.
I finished The Broken Girls. I was awake until 2:30 this morning. I couldn't stop until I'd finished it.
Janice wrote: "I finished The Broken Girls. I was awake until 2:30 this morning. I couldn't stop until I'd finished it."Haha, so good, right?
I am reading Scourged. I needed a pick-me-up. The author is throwing everyone ever mentioned in all of the previous series books and short stories into this one! Even Odysseus is mentioned.
I was waiting for that one to be released forever, Cherie, and now I haven't had a chance to get to it! I hope it's a good wrap up to the series. The ratings seem to be all over the place. What do you think of it so far?
I am almost half way through the story, Kristie. I like it very much. It is typical of all of the stories, (view spoiler) Not really giving anything away - just spoilered "in-case" so I don't get stepped on.
Yes, this is the last one, Peggy. I still need to read Besieged too, which is the last book of short stories with the series, then I’m all caught up. Sorry no link, but I’m on the app.
I'm not sure how many short stories I read, only 2 or so. I still need to read book 8, Staked. On the one hand it's a bit sad this series ends, on the other hand it's nice to be able to complete it :)
Kristie wrote: "Yes, this is the last one, Peggy. I still need to read Besieged too, which is the last book of short stories with the series, then I’m all caught up. Sorry no link, but I’m on the app."I have not read it, but the The Purloined Poodle has relevance in Book #9, because of some new characters.
I finished Scourged today. You will not be disappointed, Kristie. :o (I might have to go back and pick up a few of the in-between stories, just for my own FYI. I usually do not bother with them, but I want to know "how something happened" now.)
I finished Children of Blood and Bone. It's set In a fantasy Africa. It was a portrayal of the fight against tyranny and oppression. At times, it was quite intense.I haven't quite decided about my next audiobook. Our irl book club will be discussion Indian Horse mid July, but I need to acquire it first. Maybe I should read Scourged and finish off that series. Bonus is, I have it in my Audible library. And since you're all talking about it, I'm rather eager to read it.
I have been in a funny mood with books lately. Nothing seems to be holding my interest. I have put Phantom back on the shelf and I am going to start The Last Hours instead. I'm hoping some historical fiction set in medieval times will get me back on track.
I am half way through Stonehenge which I'm reading for the monthly challenge. I love Bernard Cornwell writing which is great news as he has soo many books! This one is so atmospheric. It starts when stonehenge was a green field site. Not to sure how far they will get within the lifetime of these characters.I am planning on starting The Skull Throne for the buddy read :-)
I just finished Head On for the zodiac challenge. It was excellent. I hope he continues with tgis series as I love the characters and the concept. Just started The Tangled Lands. I have read the first part as i had the sample through netgalley so jumping in where i left off. Can't wait to read more.
I just finished I Am Morgan le Fay, which I enjoyed. Now I am starting Pages in the Wind. I hope the story is as good as the ratings say!
I finally finished The Dwarves. It took me 2-1/2 months! My grandson is really keen to lend me the remaining books in the series. I enjoyed the story well enough, but probably wouldn't continue the series if Ty wasn't wanting to share. When it comes to reading, I'm thrilled to have a grandchild so eager to read. I told him I would space them out with other books I have to read.I started The Rosie Project for the Zodiac challenge.
I started Diary of a Mad Old Man by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki for the yearly challenge. I only just started but it is interesting so far.
Janice wrote: "I enjoyed the story well enough, but probably wouldn't continue the series if Ty wasn't wanting to share. When it comes to reading, I'm thrilled to have a grandchild so eager to read."It's too cool not to encourage. But yeah, space them out.
Rusalka wrote: "It's too cool not to encourage. But yeah, space them out. ."I told him that was what I was doing with The Game of Thrones. I still have 2 books left in that series. It seems I can tackle chunksters better when they are audiobooks.
I finished Indian Horse which deals with the horrific treatment of First Nations children in the residential schools in the 1960's. It was a shameful time in Canadian history. I'm sure the discussion my irl book club will be interesting.I've started something much lighter, Scourged.
Margo wrote: "Every nation has some shameful time in its past. Just thank heaven it IS past."The problem is, I don't think it's 'past'. Just look at the border crisis in the US. Those children that were taken from their parents will live with that trauma for the rest of their lives.
Like Aus here at the moment. We talk about it as past, but we have massive issues with how we treat and work with the Indigenous population. And then we have the horrific policies and indefinite detention of refugees in camps, including children. For us, the past is unfortunately not past and we have learnt nothing.
