What Are You Reading? - 2018
I finally finished King's Cage. I really should stop reading this series. It's to YA for me but I'm committed to it now with only 1 left in the series. Maybe if I can't think of anything to read at some point I'll pick up the last one. Otherwise it'll wait. I still have Lock In going and I'm listening to The Weird Sisters to and from work. But of course I had to borrow a couple more books for my kindle, so I got See What I Have Done and Like Water for Chocolate.

I have to give another thumps-down for The Couple Next Door - very disappointing :(

I also read The Couple Next Door. I was a bit ambivalent. It had some fun twists but it was too similar to many of the books that came out last year. And I'm reading The Couple Next Door, but this is suc..."

Which book do you mean? I've finished 'The couple next door', but it was a bit of a disapointement. I expected a lot more of it.

I share your opinion. This was my first 2* - book for this year. I had the feeling that it could be written so much better with a lot more suspence.

I absolutely intend to.
I finally got back to reading The Forever Summer, which I started forever ago. I'm hoping to finish that one and We Were the Lucky Ones over the next few days. Those are the last two books that I started and put aside that are on my currently reading shelf, except for one nonfiction that I plan to poke my way through slowly. Finally!

Saar - I was referring to The Couple Next Door - I liked it although it doesn't sound like you and a few others did. I did the audio and it worked rather well. I remember not wanting to turn it off.
I've just started The Ghost Brigades as I needed a break from Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.Circe is so good (80% through that) that everything else pales in comparison!
Peggy, I have just finished and - WOW! Can't wait to discuss the ending ☺Saar Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is a reread for me. It is a strange (no pun intended lol) story. For me parts were 5 star and parts 3 star. It is way to long and on my first read, failed to hold my attention all the way through. I loved the writing style and the setting - I did not love the plot the plot in parts. Part one is wonderful ☺
Yes, it really is too long - it gets a lot of dnf's! Either you fall in love with writing or you don't. I hesitate to recommend it but I do love to come across someone else who loved it 😉
I loved it. I needed to get through the first 100pp on a long haul flight with nothing else to read, but once I cracked that wall I was hooked. Has anyone watched the series? Highly recommend
No, I've been on the lookout for that but I managed to miss it :(I suppose it will come to Netflix eventually!

It's a BBC production, so not sure where they all end up.
I finished Circe. It was a 5 star read. Woot!Next up is Dandelion Wine for my monthly challenge read. I had started it, but I'm going to re-start it from the beginning.
I finished Circe too. Finally got my first 5 star book of the year :)Next is either I Shall Be Near to You for the group read, or Purple Hibiscus for the monthly challenge.

I'm going to restart Dandelion Wine soon too. I've invested in the audiobook version to slow me down. I was racing through too quickly before and I want to savour the writing at a leisurely pace. The book breathes Summer.
I've thoroughly complained already about my lack of time for reading lately, so I won't do it again. I started The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse 15 days ago and only got to page 107. I was planning to finish it this weekend, since things are kind of quiet here, but I just can't focus on it. It is not the book. I like the story and the writing. It is me and all the things going on on my head right now. So I decided to renew it on the library, so I can keep it a few more days, and I will go with Ready Player One instead, which should be lighter, funnier, and a better fit for me at this moment. I know many of you loved it, so here I go.
Finished The Girl Who Smiled Beads: A Story of War and What Comes After

I had just come across this yesterday, Dem. Thanks for your thoughts on it
I started reading (listening to) Dark Water today, but at the beginning of the book, they state the title as "Dark Water: A totally gripping thriller with a killer twist." So, that got me thinking about next month's theme and I went looking. Goodreads does not have it listed as having a subtitle (though it does have a series title so it would fit anyway), but Amazon has all of the books in the series listed with subtitles.https://www.amazon.com/Detective-Erik...
Since the full title is "Dark Water: A totally gripping thriller with a killer twist (Detective Erika Foster Book 3)," I think I may put it aside for next month and start something else. Here I go putting things aside again!
I think I may start Roses of May for the monthly challenge. I really wanted to keep it aside for the zodiac challenge, but honestly it's not one that can't be replaced or for a sign that I had trouble covering so it doesn't make sense for me to not use it for the monthly challenge.
I'm reading the https://www.goodreads.com/series/4126... Sword-Dancer and it's surprisingly good (it was writen in the 80ies!!).The characters are well developed, not too "cardboarded" and yet with nuances according to their gender, age and origin... A true finding
Just finished In Your Hands - great book! Originally written in Portuguese - translated by Andrea Rosenberg. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

So, I put aside Dark Water for next month's theme and I started Roses of May for this month's challenge instead. I also put aside Fierce Kingdomand started The Portrait of Molly Dean for a buddy read. I plan to read the two books I put aside next though!

I seriiously need to do something about the all the unread books I own instead of reading library books! This is my new personal, challenge 😤
I had 450 in my tbr. I got rid of all the duplicate entries, books incorrectly shelved etc and that leaves me 423. I have set up my thread in the member zone I am going to get serious about tackling this self-created problem!

Thank you for your thoughts. I wanted to read it for very long, but it's the length of the story that is holding me back. I think the translation has about 1000 pages and I have a bit enough from the big books.
I finished Stephen Holgate's Tangier - I was surprised how much I enjoyed it - it had bits of many of my favorite things in a book - conflicted and flawed characters, great setting, mystery, WW II...My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I'm also reading The Poet X and it's amazingly good. I think I'm my way to another 5-star book - my winning streak hasn't slowed down!

Saar, I read The Couple Next Door earlier this year and I really did not like it much at all. I had loads of problems with it, including finding it very predictable. It's my least favourite book of 2018 so far. Hopefully it will pick up for you and you will end up enjoying it more than I did.
