I'm catching up on some of my previously started reads. I finished The Broken Girls in just a few days and making my way quickly through The Whispering Room. I am planning to finish off The Forever Summer, We Were the Lucky Ones, and Dragon Teeth next before moving on.
Sandra wrote: "Way to go, Kristie. :)"Thanks, Sandra. :) It feels good to get them off my currently reading shelf.
I read 30 pages of Here on Earth yesterday and I have my doubts about it. I didn't even mark it as "currently reading" yet since I am not sure I'll go on with it. It looks like a modern Wuthering Heights, and I am not sure this is a good idea. I will try a few more pages today and decide. The Joy Luck Club is waving at me from my nightstand table... I guess I am going through a very picky moment.
Arghhh. I came out without my book! It's a disaster. I could have sworn I put it in my bag. And I have time to kill. I feel lost.

It is a free app. The writing is small, since it is on your phone and you have to turn pages every few seconds, but it works in a pinch. I have it on my phone so that I know I am never stuck without a book. (There are other reading apps too.)
Peggy wrote: "It's my first by her. Have some more on my tbr and am looking forward to reading them already."I love Geraldine's books!
Yes i have it on my phone kristie but it's so small plus i don't tend to download stuff to my phone so when it comes to wanting to read something I have to download it first and then if i have no data and thete's no wifi i can't get it. I managed though. All good now. Back home and reunited with my book.
Sarah wrote: "Yes i have it on my phone kristie but it's so small plus i don't tend to download stuff to my phone so when it comes to wanting to read something I have to download it first and then if i have no d..."How annoying Sarah. When I first read your post I thought you'd just bought a book and left it in the bookshop. My heart was in my mouth.
A happy ending though.
Re your comments on A Requiem For Dead FliesI hadnt thought of those options. . Thank you so much for your input. Turns out that granny is carrying a meat cleaver on the cover too.!
By the way, he wasnt a real farmer, he was distilling whisky, so no truck : (
I finished The Boy on the Bridge on audiobook. It did pick up midway, and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Next up on audio is A Darker Shade of Magic.
I've been trying hard to read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August but I'm going to put it aside. It may end up being a complete bail. I just couldn't get into it. I'll read something else for "august" in the Zodiac challenge. I'm listening to The Woman in Cabin 10 (also for the Zodiac) and not enthralled, but I'll finish it. It gives me something to listen to aside from the news on my commute and besides, I'm almost done.
For a change of pace I'm reading King's Cage. I've read the first 3 books of the series. Not the best writing but different from what I've been reading lately.
Roz wrote: "I've been trying hard to read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August but I'm going to put it aside. It may end up being a complete bail. I just couldn't get into it. I'll read some..."I struggled to the end of The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and TBH, it wasn't worth it. For that task in ZZ I'm going to try Light in August which may not be any better!
I finished The Daylight War today and can't wait to get the next in that series although this was the weakest book so far IMO.
I am going to try to get back to The Hoarder which I didn't get very far with earlier in the month despite the excellence of the writing. The plot didn't grab me first time out but I had a bad few weeks reading wise so I will have another go at it 😃
Tomorrow I am planning to start The Boys from Brazil on kindle for the zz challenge. Ira Levin used to be one of my favorites way back in the dark ages so it will be interesting to revisit his work.
Good to know that someone else struggled with The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. I'm going to try Snow in August for the Zodiak task.
Roz wrote: "Good to know that someone else struggled with The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. I'm going to try Snow in August for the Zodiak task."Roz that sounds interesting ☺
I'm going to start Hum If You Don’t Know the Words for the zodiac challenge.I have super high expectations for this one. I'm kind of hoping it will be my first 5 star read of this year. Probably shouldn't think like this, it can only disappoint..
I'm going to start The Left Hand of Darkness tonight for our buddy read. That will be four books on the go. ACK!

That looks promising, Peggy. I am still looking for a 5 star too but pretty pleased with the 3 4.5 star ones I read.
Glad you had some other goods ones Pragya. I think I had 1 4.5 star read so far. Lots of 4 stars though, so not a bad reading year at all. I had a few I thought would be 5 stars, but they weren't.
Finished V is for Vengeance by Sue Grafton who recently passed away. I've enjoyed a number of her alphabet mysteries with heroine Kinsey Millhone and have an autographed copy of L is for Lawless from a book-signing back in 1995 at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Cincinnati, OH! Just notified of a giveaway win of two Kindle books: Every Single Secret by Emily Carpenter and An American Princess: The Many Lives of Allene Tew by Annejet van der Zijl. Exciting to be a winner!! Will have to finish up on some current reads, then start these two. A big thanks to Goodreads!!
I finished The Woman in Cabin 10. Sorry, barely 2 stars. I wrote a review because I had to get if off my chest. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I started The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse - for the May group read. My first time reading Louise Erdrich. I am also currently reading The Whistling Season, my first Ivan Doig book, Precious and Grace, and The Beacon at Alexandria - all for my ZZ challenge.
I am almost finished listening to Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker - just because I liked the narrator's voice. The story - not so much.

Congratulations.
I'm currently reading The Name of the Rose and am half way through Dandelion Wine. I hope to start The Delicate Dependency: A Novel of the Vampire Life in May sometime. It's a vampire book set in Victorian London and I'd !ike to take part in the flower challenge too, if I have time.I'm going to have to watch my reading and try not to start too many books at once though. I sometimes try to do too much, then find I cant concentrate on any one book, which leads to a reading slump. I can feel myself drifting that way.
How unfair you are reading two books with flowers in the title, Annerlee, and none count for the challenge!
Elizabeth A.G. wrote: "Finished V is for Vengeance by Sue Grafton who recently passed away. It's so refreshing to spend time with Kinsey, share a peanut butter and gherkin sandwich and catch up with Henry. I haven't read the final instalment yet. It's so sad the series ends with Y.
Annerlee wrote: "I'm going to have to watch my reading and try not to start too many books at once though. I start too many then I don't enjoy them as much because I'm reading them in bits and pieces. Then, I lose interest even if they're good books.

Annerlee - A fellow Kinsey Millhone lover! I still have a few of the series to read and will be looking into W, X, and Y as well.
Cherie - Thanks! I was really surprised and pleased about this giveaway.
Roz - I have to agree with you about your review of The Woman in Cabin 10. Very disappointing with a really obtuse reporter in the character of Lo Blacklock. The storyline also shallow and disappointing.
Kristie wrote:" I have a tendency to do that as well. I start too many then I don't enjoy them as much because I'm reading them in bits and pieces. Then, I lose interest even if they're good books ..."
It's like overindulging at an 'all you can eat' buffet and ending up with book indigestion 😢
Yeah, this is a good way of picturing it, Annerlee. :)Kristie, you are doing great progress "cleaning" your currently reading shelf, really. I realized the other day that my older daughter (she is 19) had 29 books in her currently reading shelf. I messaged her saying something like "this is out of control". She reported later that she had finished 1, so now there were "only" 28. She is SO like her father...

Haha. Wow. When I tell my friends I am juggling like 14 books, they think I am crazy but 29! That takes the cake. How does she do it?
I sometimes end up with up to 5 on the go for various reasons but 29 - sorry 28 - is insane! I couldn't do it. I can get confused with only ;-p
I think the max I ever did is 3. I have 2 on the go sometimes when I have a paper book too big to carry with me on the train. I much prefer just one book at a time though, I feel much more invested in the story. I've been reading 2 books at a time this year often, and I think that's one reason for why several expected 5 star books turned out to be 4 stars.
Right now, I have 4 on the go. I usually keep it to 2 at a time, but books became available all at once, it seems.
I like juggling. I never have less than 3 books on the go and can manage 5 or 6 depending on the format. If I have more than this, some just do not get read as quickly, but I do not have any problems keeping track of the stories. I doubt if I have ever had more than 10 in my currently reading list. That would make me too anxious. I would have shuffled a couple off to my "started-but-not-finished shelf" to come back to later.
I like to have 3 or 4 going at once. It gives me options, in case I get bored with one I can pick up and continue with one of the others. Ideally I have one audio that I listen to during the commutes to and from work. Then I have 2 or 3 others (usually kindle versions) that I switch between (among?). Or I'll have one in-my-hand hardcover. More than that would get lost on the back shelf and wouldn't be finished. I can't imaging having more than 10. A person would need to be a pretty fast reader for that and I'm just too slow.
She can't be reading the 29, or 28. I am sure of that. And I know her. She can't even have her GR shelves organized...
Sandra wrote: "She can't be reading the 29, or 28. I am sure of that. And I know her. She can't even have her GR shelves organized..."She probably starts one, then puts it aside to start another. So, maybe she has 28 of them started, but isn't really actively reading all 28?
Janice wrote: "The Left Hand of Darkness goes back to the library unfinished. Ugh!"I think I tried it once and never went back to it, Janice. I think it is a pretty hit or miss book.
