I am currently in Florence Italy dealing with Claire Claremont's old age in 1873 through the pages of Claire's Last Secret: A Historical Mystery Featuring Lord Byron by Marty Ambrose. Claire was Mary Shelley's step-sister. She had a child with Lord Byron. She is reminiscing about that summer in Geneva in 1816 when she had her fling with Byron and Mary began to write Frankenstein. The next chapter of Ambrose's book takes place in Geneva in 1816.

It's dual period--Florence 1873 and Geneva 1816.

I just finished a very interesting short story The Conversion of Sum Loo by Willa Sibert Cather. It was written in 1900 and is easily found on-line. I posted the link with the short story. No set location but she wrote from Nebraska.

I'm in Poland with a very interesting writer that is new to me. I love this collection of short stories. Very cleverly written.

I am in Los Angeles with Timothy Hallinan's latest , Nighttown. I've enjoyed his series set in Thailand but hadn't read any of the Junior Bender novels before this one, and I'll definitely be checking the back titles out of my library.

I'm currently in ancient Alexandria but I'll eventually be traveling to ancient China with a Roman expedition. Talk about something that didn't make it into the history books! This is The Eagle and the Dragon: A Novel of Rome and China by Lewis F. McIntyre. I won my ticket to this book journey from a giveaway on Stephanie Dray's newsletter.

Last night I wrapped up England with Hamlet by William Shakespeare. I forget sometimes how much I enjoy Shakespeare.

Then I started Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow (New York in the Jazz Age). I miss my piano!!!! This is terrific so far.

Today, a quick read from Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions.

I decided after watching Fear The Walking Dead that it was time to read the actual graphic novels so yesterday started The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye by Robert Kirkman. I don't love all graphic novels but I do enjoy reading them and this is a good one. It grabs you quickly and the art work is very good. Easier for me in some places than watching the show. For location, I think it's mostly Atlanta, Georgia for this one.

I am in Japan with The Mystery Train Disappears by Kyōtarō Nishimura, and enjoying immensely.

I'm in Inda with the wonderful Ghachar Ghochar. I almost finished it while waiting 4 hours in the Apple store today to figure out what is wrong with my iPod. The staff kept praising me for being so calm and patient. I owe it all to the book :)

I was in Lahore, Pakistan with The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which I really enjoyed.
Am now currently half way through The Complete Persepolis and just left Tehran, Iran for Austria.

Oh dear me, everytime I-check in here I’ve found stuff that I WTR and add it to my list. I’ll have to live two lifetimes, renew my Passport twice to visit all the places and, to get through them all. However, I do enjoy the recommendations from everyone. I’m looking to use ebooks, reluctantly, so I can read when I can’t have my book with me.

Ultimately, yes. At first they thought the problem was thewith my iPod, so I bought a replacement, but the new one had the same problem, so it was an update issue. But I can still keep the new ipod at no charge. I'll believe it when I see the refund on my credit card statement ;)

Me too! :-) I'm in New York in the Jazz Age with Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow and am loving it. I watched the movie as a child and it's mostly coming back to me. A terrific read!

I'm reading an interesting book called Of Poetry and Protest: From Emmett Till to Trayvon Martin by Philip Cushway. It's a refreshing mix of poetry, interviews, short biographical sketches and photos. I'm not far along but loved the Muhammed Ali poem which came as a surprise. Location - USA.

I'm reading A Fairly Good Time, which puts me in France in the early 1960's. So far, so hilarious!

I'm back in 14th century England with The Turn of Midnight. It picks up exactly where The Last Hours finished.

I’m in Russia with A Whisper to the Living by Stuart M. Kaminsky, and Armenia with Armenian Sketchbook by Vasily Grossman.

I'm in South Sudan reading Songs of a War Boy: The bestselling biography of Deng Adut - a child soldier, refugee and man of hope.

Deng was the NSW Australian of the Year in 2017, but boy his story is hard to read (content, it's actually very readable). At least I know it has a happy ending, unlike many other people I am meeting along the way.

I've been in Berne, Switzerland, but mostly in 1700's Paris reading Edward Carey's Little, the extraordinary life of a servant girl Anne Marie Grosholz, apprentice to a Doctor, from whom she learns how to create life-like heads made of wax.

I downloaded this on my Kindle as I love books set in this era and particularly China. It’s in a queue and will more likely be in my 2019 reading list.

Just finished a terrific short story by Wendell Berry called Stand By Me which takes place in Kentucky.

I enjoyed yesterday's short story so much, today I read another by this author, Leavings by Wendell Berry (a collection of poetry) {Kentucky} and another short story, Signs and Symbols by Vladimir Nabokov
