At first I felt sorry for Juliana, but now she is coming across as an immature spoiled brat.

Mariana | 2692 comments Before I even started the book, I disliked the hero Simon, Duke of Leighton, and liked the heroine Juliana.

As I started reading the book, I continued to dislike Simon and began to like Juliana less and less. Although she has a pleasant personality, she truly is a child and thinks nothing of repercussions or what she wants beyond the immediate moment. In that sense, she is like her mother, even though I agree that she cares and even loves her family. I doubt she would have abandoned her children as her mother did.

I agree about poor Penelope. There was nothing specific that truly made me dislike her. Yes, she was passive and allowed others to gossip negatively around her; but she didn't seem to join in. She seems to want more, but she is a good girl and will do what her parents want.

Simon is losing! Juliana is losing, and Penelope is losing! This is a lose-lose-lose situation.

So very true and I agree with you on all points.

A one star rating is I did not like the book and that is it in a nutshell. It is well written and all the appropriate pieces are in place plotwise, but I could not warm to either of the main characters and their story did not interest me.
