Well I have made it this far but (view spoiler)

As I started reading the book, I continued to dislike Simon and began to like Juliana less and less. Although she has a pleasant personality, she truly is a child and thinks nothing of repercussions or what she wants beyond the immediate moment. In that sense, she is like her mother, even though I agree that she cares and even loves her family. I doubt she would have abandoned her children as her mother did.
I agree about poor Penelope. There was nothing specific that truly made me dislike her. Yes, she was passive and allowed others to gossip negatively around her; but she didn't seem to join in. She seems to want more, but she is a good girl and will do what her parents want.
Simon is losing! Juliana is losing, and Penelope is losing! This is a lose-lose-lose situation.
