THE GREETINGS AND IDLE CHAT THREAD 2018
I just want to say that-----Wimbledon starts tomorrow!!!**high-pitched scream**
Don't get tiffed with me Ori. You know you're still #1 with me---after tennis:)
Come down to the Common and meet the Wombles while you're there! I thought I'd have a lot of free time this summer, so I started a quilt project. Of course now I have new students coming at odd times which don't leave me time to drag it all out (no sewing room) before I have to put it all away again.
Sorry Ori I thing It is 15 love to tennis as far as Groovy is concerned now all we have to do is get her some Pimms and Strawberry and cream.
The strawberries and cream you can get for your self, but the Pimms you may have to go to the Liquor store and see if they can get it for you.
Well!!! :)Anywho, I just made THE most delicious Lemon Cream Pie EVER! It's called Sour Cream Lemon Pie. Yum y'all!
OK, so I know Youtube trolls (or any other kind) are scum, but still. There's this beautiful Jamaican American woman on Youtube that I seriously admire. She posts her random thoughts on things like politics, race, upbringing of kids (she's a Harvard-educated pediatrician) and whatever else comes to mind, but in an intelligent way.Her latest post tells us why she won't be posting for a while. Her only daughter, Harvard senior, athlete, beautiful intelligent woman, died in her sleep last Tuesday. No evident reason, she just--stopped living. Her mother is understandably devastated, and yet had the control to make the post "without showing emotion" (unless you looked a her eyes). I mean, she didn't cry on the outside, but her heart was bleeding in silence. Most people posted their compassion for her, and many spoke of praying for her.
So some asswhole troll takes the opportunity to mock Dr Blair's religious beliefs, along the lines of "so where is this loving God now, and when children are being raped, etc."?
Ass.
Yeah, I know. It's what trolls do. But still.
Trolls are THE biggest cowards. They sit behind their laptops and bully in the shadows, and spew what they're too afraid to say to your face. Face to face they would smile--hypocrites!And if they really want to know the answer to those questions, they should try picking up a Bible once in a while!
I'm so sorry she lost her love.
Her channel is fblairmd, if you want to see her content, Groovy. The troll's post has been deleted, along with my response.
I've learned from Fiona to keep it cool and controlled, instead of ripping off his head and handing it back to him--fun as that might be.
Seriously annoyed; got an envelope from the US and because my friend didn't clearly mark it as a "gift" I had to pay 30 Euros customs fee--for a bunch of bias tape and a piece of fabric! Plus the man who brought it told me it had been opened in Customs...who knows what they took out. Supposedly there was an "invoice" but that did not tell me what was in it, just a breakdown of the fee I had to pay.
Sorry, Ori. Maybe you can relay that to your friend, and she can reimburse you. It's only fair since it was her fault. My daughter is always ordering stuff from China. And customs always opens it and goes through it.
Sorry to hear that Ori, yes customs can be a real pain in the backside. Ask your friend for a detailed list of what she put in the envelope. Send the Bill to Donald Trump, he is the one who started this customs fiasco, by raising the tariffs on imports he has caused all the other countries to do the same and to target those who have the lowest quantity as they are the easiest to collect from.
Yup, I agree. Mr Cheato should be the one to pay. Our govt here is obviously PO'd and is taking it out on the receiver. But my friend is in her late 80s and meant well, so I shall keep quiet. Yes she is wealthier than me (by quite a little) but never mind.
Just realised that reading slumps in my case are directly related to ambient temperature. Hardly surprising. Today we're having temps of 114ºF and up and nothing pleases me. Ah well. We usually hit these temps in July already, so I can't complain. Can't concentrate on a book, either. Roll on, sweet gentle October, roll on.
Go to a mall, get a iced coffee and sit in the AC reading. For me if it gets to hot I go to Tesco's Café and read the Ac is free LOL. Coffee is crap but I don't really drink it, it's just a prop.
I drink tereré in this heat, which is yerba maté made with cold water. It lowers your bloodpressure slightly which makes you feel cooler, too. Actually when I can I use cold fruit drinks--not the kind with pulp, the watered-down kind, because fruit pulp plugs up the "bombilla" which is the metal sipper straw you use to drink it. Or homemade lemonade.Tereré made with mint and stevia is also very nice. I try to stick to stevia because otherwise you can empty the sugarbowl!
Reading Jan Eliot's comic strip, "Stone Soup," the family is watching Dumbo and the older son mentions how intense it is for kids. His mother says, "They always off the mom." True. Cinderella, Snow White, Dumbo, Bambi... the mother wonders, is this some kind of statement? LOL
Or always blaming the mom for all of their mistakes, while the dead-beat dad gets a free pass---don't get me started.

Groovy 99 degrees is hot

Groovy wrote: "Or always blaming the mom for all of their mistakes, while the dead-beat dad gets a free pass---don't get me started."Please Dumbo's father didn't have any choice
Been offline for two days--apparently the techs of a rival company just ripped our cable out of the building's junction box (which is on the outside, of cuss) and left it hanging. Young man actually came on Sunday morning to put it right! The first Sunday in August, which means a lot here. Three cheers for Orange.
Groovy I think we took another wrong turn LOL, speaking of wrong turns. Two das ago I was traveling with some friends (all of us in our own cars) and turned right, and was left behind.
I see on the news that Europe is experiencing severe heat. So, stay cool and drink lots and lots of liquids; and have a safe, fun weekend:) We are dealing with wildfires. And what gets me is that 90% of them are caused by humans. A wildfire is raging in California right now because some moron set the fire on purpose. People have lost their loved ones, and their homes due to these idiots. Instead of jail, they should put him in the middle of the fire and let him find his way out, if he can.
Or put him in a safe room, and set him on fire on purpose. See how he likes it.Oops sorry. Depression's pit yawned unexpectedly at my feet the last few days and I am dealing with it without asking for meds. So it's Valerian, herbal tea, comfort movies and making cookies. Doesn't really cure anything but I manage.

That is a bit of a contradiction in terms, if the fire is man made then it is not in essence a wild fire. It is a fire that is out of control but it is not a fire set by any natural means such as lightning.
On the other hand I agree with you lock this fool in a room douse him in slow burning fuel and give him a book of matches then force him to light a fire and watch it slowly burn towards him and consume him like he did to others.
My remedy for depression's pit is music, writing, crocheting, movies, and above all, spending time with my daughter. What I would give for a cure now, but I manage also:)
Anyone else hate the new Goodreads email format for books read by "friends?" Apparently we don't get the reviews anymore, which is what I wanted in the first place!
I just read that Kim Kardasian is showing off her 22 inch waist. I think she looks deformed. The only people who should have 22 inch waists are middle-schoolers. And this is who young impressionable girls look up to and aspire to be like?
That woman obviously misunderstood. When they offered her makeup, she thought they said "Fake up!" so she did.
Ori I think it was when they offered her brains she thought they said trains and asked for one that never left the station. Not to say the family is dumb, but I think there combined IQ is 10.
A new recipe, and a good one!Coconut Cream Pudding (2 servings)
2/3 cup (150 ml) coconut milk
1/3 cup (70 ml) cream
1/4 cup (60 ml) milk
1/3 cup (40 g) sugar
1.5 teaspoons (5 g) unflavoured gelatine powder softened in 2 Tablespoons water
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and stir over low heat until it reaches a good simmer (not boiling). Divide between 2 ramekins (about 7 cm or 3 inches in diameter). Chill for about 3 hrs or until set. Garnish with fruit etc.
Variation: Add a good tablespoon of cocoa powder to the mixture and blend well before heating.
That last variation I think would end up tasting like a mounds chocolate bar Bounty is the English version.

Yeah, it is. And if you do the slice-and-toast thing, you have a kind of biscotti thing.
