Also the whole "I made you" was kinda creepy. And omg, Thomas! I can't believe he's dead. I teared up at that point because I loved his character. (hide spoiler)]

12% (view spoiler)[I am really loving this so far. One of the things that I love about Cassandra Clare's writing is that she knows how to suck you in and keep you wanting more.

Tessa is such a darling! I adore her. Poor dear, though. I can't imagine how terrified she must have been with the Dark sisters. I bet she's still pretty afraid at the Institute. It's probably overwhelming. Especially since they tell her that she isn't human, but they have no clue what she is.

Did anyone else that has read The Mortal Instruments series see a little of Jace's attitude in Will? Its crazy how alike they seem. (hide spoiler)]

I absolutely loved the scenery and the world building here! London is one of my favorites places in general and it was nice to see it in this era

I wonder what is wrong with him and why Will made Tessa promise not to tell Charlotte. There's something strange about that for sure. I do think that the moment that Tessa and Jem shared was lovely. So far I am really liking the chemistry between Tessa and Will and also Tessa and Jem.

I can't say that I like Jessamine very much so far. I wonder what her deal is.

I am so worried about Jem and his illness! I want to know what is wrong with him. He is such a darling and I can't stand to think of him being so sick that he coughs up blood.

That scene where Jessamine kills that Fae with her umbrella was pretty hardcore. She seemed so mentally stung by the whole incident though. I am starting to wonder if she is so obsessed with not being a shadowhunter that she now has some loose screws up top...

79% (view spoiler)[OMG, I knew that the vampire wasn't the Magister! I don't know who he is yet, but I suspect Mortmain or her brother. There is something off about both of them, although he brother's could just be that he is traumatized about his ordeal.

I wasn't completely sure if Tessa was going to go for Jem or Will, but I was leaning towards Will. They shared a kiss! But of course, Will had to make it weird by freaking out and sending her away mysteriously. I wonder what made him act like that? Any ideas? It's weird because the kiss so so hungry and passionate.

The story about Jem's illness is so sad. It isn't his fault and he suffers for it. I don't want him to die. I hope that something can be done for him! His character grew on me so fast. Jem is definitely my favorite character in the book series so far. I adore him! His softness and kindness are so endearing. Maybe Sophie should just tell him how she feels. Poor girl went through so much.

The story about Will and how he came to be at the Institute is strange. I am super curious as to why he did what he did and chose to go to the Institute and leave his family behind.

I wasn't surprised that the person the vampires were going to kill was Nate. In fact, I think that I expected it. I am also not the least bit surprised that Jessamine is pining after him. I really do detest her character.

The automatons are creepier yet, coming after Jem and Tessa. I am so freaked out that they are in the Institute. And poor Agatha! (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[OMG, I so called it! Mortmain is the Magister and Nate was helping him! I am still wanting to know why he wanted Tessa so badly. Seriously, he was so creepy. He wanted her to change into someone, but who? I had thought that maybe it was a lover or spouse that had died, but he said that her creation had been in the works since before him. It was so confusing and I want to know so badly!

I am still really confused about Will too. I want to know why he showed up at the Institute. What happened in his past to make him the way he is? The way that he spoke to Tessa at the end of the book made me furious. As much as I adore Will, it was uncalled for. His personal demons are not an excuse for the things that he said.

I was so sad about Thomas and Agatha. I so wanted Thomas and Sophie to get together. They would have been so perfect together, at least if Sophie could forget her feelings for Jem.

I am so excited to start the next book tonight! OMG! (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 11-17: (view spoiler)[ I almost forgot to stop and update because so much is happening!!! First, I am heartbroken. I had a feeling Jem would die but I still can't believe it happened and that he was without Tessa and Will at the time. That just broke my heart all over again and seemed an unfair sendoff for, IMO, the best character in the book. Also, Gabriel finally stopped being an ass and actually made up his own mind about things. Now, let's see how this goes. (hide spoiler)]

10% (view spoiler)[That prologue was informative. It was eerie, really. I guess we all knew that Will loves Tessa, but this confirmation was nice to see. It just begs to question why in the world he wouldn't want to love Tessa. What in his past has made him this way? I am so anxious to find out!

The Council meeting got quite heated. I don't like Benedict at all. He seems too power hungry and is just altogether unpleasant. I was so mad when he was insulting Charlotte. I adore Charlotte and feel so protective of her. The Consul is on her side, even if he has to be blunt and lay things on her. I bet that Tessa and Sophie will be miserable having the Lightwoods train them, but I will be glad to see Tessa train like a Shadowhunter.

Tessa, Jem, and Will certainly seem to work well together despite the rift between Tessa and Will. When Tessa described how Mortmain hated Nephilim and wanted recompense for something, Jem automatically knew where to look for more answers with that information. They play well off of each other. And Jem is clearly in love with Tessa. I know that Tessa cares for Jem, but I don't want to see her break his heart. I would not be able to handle it, omg!

So Will is having Magnus help him find a demon because he was cursed by one and wants the curse removed. At least that's a little more information, even if it isn't the entirety of the story.

Poor Sophie is still so in love with Jem. When she saw him in the hallway with Tessa and overheard their conversation she seemed so lost and sad. She can tell that Jem cares about Tessa. Watching them together Sophie realizes that she may not even really know him, despite her feelings. (hide spoiler)]

19% (view spoiler)[The meeting with Cyril and Bridget felt a little strained. Although, when Bridget took Gabriel by surprise with the knife, I laughed. When it said that Gabriel was actually a good teacher, I was surprised. If he was patient with Tessa then maybe he isn't all bad after all. I guess we'll see.

Mortmain's parents being warlocks is interesting. And also that he requested recompense for their deaths from the Shadowhunters. I am really curious to see how things go from here.

I am curious about Aloysius Starkweather. Usually, Shadowhunters die young, but he is 89 years old. I wonder what the falling out between him and Charlotte's father had been about.

Will's behavior towards Tessa in the library was strange, but Will is a strange creature. He shows her kindness, and at the same time is standoffish. It's maddening. I admit that I adore their conversations about books though. They clearly both have a passion for books.

Oh, Henry. So docile and oblivious.

Tessa is so full of life, even after everything that has happened to her. She was so excited to take the train. What a darling she is.

I don't know how I feel about Bridget. Sophie clearly doesn't like her though.

The conversation between Gabriel and Gideon was strange. Gideon actually complimented Charlotte and seemed to be skeptical about his own father. I wonder what is going on there.

I really loved that Will left Tessa a copy of the book with the poem inside. And the poem cracked me up! If he thinks that her faith in him will be restored, then he must plan on getting rid of the demon curse and getting back to normalcy. When he asked her on the train if she has brought anything to read along the way and she said no, I was all bothered by it. Those two, omg. I cracked up when Will said that the Lightwood brothers were hideous, and Tessa told him that they were good-looking. Haha.

Charlotte is a Fairchild!

How curious that the plan they concoct about Tessa involves her being Jem's fiancee. I think that Will was a little jealous. When he mentioned that she would need a ring, I almost thought that the story would change to Will being her betrothed since it has mentioned his ring before. But no, Jem actually thought of it before and had his family ring with him for Tessa to wear. Oh, the drama, am I right? Hehe.

I kind of liked the history lessons on parabatai and Shadowhunter weddings. (hide spoiler)]

27% (view spoiler)[Starkweather is quite a piece of work. His reaction to Tessa really baffled me though. He seemed shocked by something about her. He even seemed inclined to cast them out until he saw her, but then let them stay. What up with that? And the mention of the portrait of Adele Starkweather was strange. It must be significant to the story somehow, or why mention it at all?

It is interesting to see the differences between Starkweather's Institute and the one from London. At least they got the information from Starkweather that they came for. I am surprised that he was being helpful. Starkweather's attitude of Downworlders and the politics that comes with it was disgusting. When he took them to the "Spoils" room, I cringed. Poor Tessa. It truly sounded barbaric and just plain awful. And Starkweather is hanging on to the past and those past ideals with a passion. Even if he may be going senile.

I was surprised that Will came to Tessa when she had her nightmare. He was actually being kind to her and she turned him away. It's always back and forth with these two.

Wow, a new development! The girl that they see heading into the Ravenscar Manor was Will's sister. Now that is strange and eventful. Will nearly lost his mind at the sight of her. And then when the automaton attacked them, I was seriously wondering what the heck was going on. It was a lot to take in at once. Very mysterious.

Aww, Jem told Tessa to keep his ring. So many feels!

I honestly wasn't expecting Will to jump out of the train and run off. (hide spoiler)]

37% (view spoiler)[Wow, so Will finally tells Magnus the truth about his past. The thing that we have been waiting FOREVER to learn about. I actually really feel for him now. It explains everything - the way he is so mean to everyone except Jem, his "acting" like a drunk and a womanizer, and his running away in the first place. Poor Will. I am glad that Magnus is helping him.

It seems that Charlotte made a promise to Will when he was 12 to let him know if his family ever perishes. Which is against the rules, of course. She had Ragnor Fell keep an eye on them over the years, but they moved and he lost track of them. So they really have no idea how Will's family came to live in Raven scar Manor. Especially since Will's father gambled away everything they had.

So Mortmain is the Clockwork Prince.

I think that Gideon and Sophie like each other. Wouldn't that just be something? And something happened with Gabriel and Gideon's father to put Gabriel in a foul mood. I wonder what is going on there?

We get to see Ragnor Fell!

I am glad that Magnus sent that letter to Tessa. Magnus is sincerely concerned for Will. When Jem and Tessa rummage through his room she finds the letters that she wrote to her brother while she was in the Dark Sisters home inside a copy of A Tale of Two Cities. Even more proof that he loves her, no? Jem finds a knife to use and track Will. And Jem finds that the medicine that Will buys for Jem costs much more than Jem provides him for it. (hide spoiler)]

73% (view spoiler)[Okay, so I knew something was up with Jessamine. I honestly didn't take her for a traitor, so her deceit surprised me. I was hoping that we would get to see her embrace her heritage and go all badass kicking some demon butt. Alas, that didn't happen. I guess I should have seen it coming. I had thought at the very beginning that she was mentally unstable because of her parents' deaths. The way that she played with her dollhouse and obsessed over being mundane was greatly odd. I just found it strange that she betrayed everyone at the institute because it would mean that she basically has no conscience at all. I was surprised that she married Nate, though I guess I shouldn't have been. She was pretty desperate to marry a mundane.

I was surprised to see Jem so upset since we haven't ever seen that side of him before. I suppose I can understand it though. The romantic scene with Jem and Tessa was great! I adore Jem and I think that she and Jem are perfect together. This love triangle is so well written. I honestly ship her with each of them for different reasons.

I am not surprised about Benedict Lightwood. Maybe at the extent to which he is betraying the Shadowhunters, but not that he is doing it. I dislike him more than words can say. I feel sorry for Gabriel and Gideon. Gideon actually seems like a nice lad, and Gabriel just seems gullible and proud. Oh, and I think that Sophie and Gideon are the CUTEST! OMG! I hope that they end up together.

It's coincidental that Will sees the demon that cursed him at the ball that Benedict threw. Hopefully some good will come of his encounter with it.

I loved it when Magnus kissed Will!! OMG, laughed so hard. Finally glad that Magnus kicked Camille to the curb. She wasn't good for him at all. Poor Magnus. I love my Magnus.

I am glad that they convinced Jessamine to write the letter. I hope that she isn't setting them up though! (hide spoiler)]

I had a feeling that Nate would figure them out. I am not surprised that Will did what he did to save Tessa. I was on the edge of my seat the entire scene. When I thought that Charlotte and Henry were killed or hurt, I almost lost it!

This love triangle is amazing. I seriously ship both of them with Tessa. I love them both! I don't want anyone to get hurt and I want everyone happy. Why?! I thought that Jem's proposal was beautiful. Jem happy is the best thing in the world!

I am not surprised that there was never really a curse, but poor Will. And after he found out about Jem's proposal...omg...the pain I felt for him. I am so in turmoil over the whole thing.

I don't know what will become of Charlotte blackmailing Benedict, but I am thinking that something bad will eventually come of it. Poor Gabriel. I feel so bad for him. I hope that he comes around to Gideon's side. I wasn't surprised by what Benedict did and what happened to his wife. The whole thing is sad, really.

I was so excited when Charlotte announced her pregnancy! And Henry's reaction was so great that I laughed out loud. No joke, I laughed for a few minutes straight. My husband called into the bedroom to ask me what was so funny. Haha.

The big shock at the end with Cecily coming to the Institute was unexpected, to say the least. I can't wait to find out what she knows and why she left.

14% (view spoiler)[The prologue definitely makes me think that Tessa's mother is Starkweather's granddaughter. It makes me think back to what the person (I can't remember if it was a demon or a faerie) at the party told her about changelings. If Starkweather's granddaughter was so ill then perhaps she wasn't human and that his real granddaughter was switched. It makes sense since Starkweather was shocked when he saw her in York and then asked her if she was all right after the clockwork attack at the Enclave meeting. His behavior is very peculiar.

The whole worm fight scene was very strange. I guess I just didn't expect it. I thought that Cecily was very brave. And Gabriel certainly thought so as well. I think that he fancies her after seeing that. The note that was left in Benedict's study was ominous.

Poor Jem. If he dies I will lose myself. And he loves Tessa so much. I am still so conflicted as to who I think Tessa should be with. There is love on both sides so it's difficult to pick only one of them. I just want a happy ending for everyone, darn it! (hide spoiler)]
