A Fan's Notes question

I've been recently thinking about books I loved 20 years ago and how I feel about them now. Just re-read Catcher In The Rye and I still found it wonderful although a little less so than when I was in college. i have also revised my adoration of Frederick Exley to the point of still loving his style but finding his overall contribution to literature no where near what I used to think (previously, I thought of him as the greatest contemporary American writer. Much as I hate to admit it, I would no longer make any huge claims for Tom Robbins (except for his still off the chart ability to make me laugh out loud. Any thoughts ?
