R.L Stine Challenge!
I just finished chapter 15. There are parts of this that are interesting and I can see how this concept could have been really amazing, but then it feels slow, boring or predictable. I think if I were younger I would like this more, despite it being his attempt at an adult novel. If you are sensitive to scenes describing baby death, be aware of that. It could be traumatic if you've experienced the loss of a child.

I have gotten about 100 pages in. I'm...not hating it. Not loving it either. Not really sure what to make of it yet. And being a quarter in, that's weird.
I thought how it went from part one to part two was so abrupt. I would do a spoiler and explain, but I feel too lazy. I'm not a kid person really, only in small doses with family members...so I don't get her instant love of these kids. Sympathy, sure. Unless she's under some spell... *shakes head* Lea should listen to people telling her to wait. I'm going to shut up before I spoil something.I haven't read anymore. I'm dragging my feet, which isn't a good sign!
I felt it was abrupt too. I'm not a kid person either so I keep rolling my eyes at Lea's instant love of them. Sympathy of course I can understand. I'd have sympathy for them too. I'd say more but don't want to spoil anything either.
I was doing the eye rolling, too! This isn't a spoiler, but my guess is demon possession and Lea is under some spell/influence. Either the boys are demons or they are being manipulated by one. Or they are aliens or something. Or they are just evil kids with powers. Or Lea just falls head over heels for every helpless, "but they are so adorable!" children.Who cares if they're adorable! You can't just... *zips lips*
I read this when it first came out and wasn't that crazy about it. I'm fairly certain I was eye-rolling too. LOL
I've read 48 chapters so far. Still over 100 pages to go and I'm not sure i'm gonna make it. I don't want to DNF it (even though I really do want to). At this point I just want to find out (view spoiler) and be done with it. I'm struggling along with it.

*Looks at spoilers* *Has to control self from throwing book*I'm done. I'm just so done. I'm sorry, I commend you for getting through it Latasha. (view spoiler)
I'm calling it. 300 pages in of 429 (I read 50 chapters total) and DNF. Sorry Stine. I tried.

lol, that was the best answer i had. lol
lol. It was feeling like a chore trying to continue the book. I feel bad dnfing a buddy read, and Stine at that. But reading shouldn't feel like a chore.

I try not to DNF generally. My rule is keep pushing until it feels like a chore and the struggle is too real lol. I should probably ease up on that rule. I definitely agree that there is way too many books on my list as well to force myself to read one i'm not liking. Life is too short.
This was my first dnf of the year.
This book, this book... I'm only 130 pages in and it is so boring. I haven't even got to the kids doing anything evil. I get that Lea is under some sort of influence, but she is so annoying me being all "My angels!" Ugh... more eye rolling. I dislike when an author says at the end of the chapter "so-in-so had no idea what would happen to so-in-so in a few weeks." No! Lazy writing! Also, spoiler much?
I had no choice but to drag myself into reading today because the power went out and I had nothing else to do. How sad is that? lol I'm going to go for a couple more chapters and decide if I will DNF or not.
Same with me Leigha. I'm at chapter 27 and I'm pretty sure R.L. forgot he was writing an adult's book. I hate DNF'ing but I'll give it a few more chapters.
I'm calling it. I'm a couple pages from 200 and just can't do it! Why waste your time on something that is no fun? I'll go read the spoilers though because I am curious. I do think that this concept could have been halfway decent if it was written by someone else. But alas...I also hate DNFing a buddy read :(
Right. If everyone else is out, so am I. Can anyone direct me to some spoilers so I at least know what the two beautiful blue-eyed blonds are all about. Then I can go back to my horror in the woods over at CCE. :)
Melanie on the page for Red Rain look for Hazel's review. She gives away the ending. I think she is the third one shown.
I haven’t been able to read much lately but I can start now. Sounds like Red Rain was a bust. I’ll have to try the next one.
since we are at the year's half way point, do y'all want to keep this up for 2020? wow, weird typing that date in!
Kellie wrote: "I haven’t been able to read much lately but I can start now. Sounds like Red Rain was a bust. I’ll have to try the next one."yeah Kellie, unless you have absolutely nothing else to read, i'd skip it. your not missing much. our next one is One Evil Summer. you can read it anytime in July.
While i'm on board for the rest of this year, I think i'll pass on next year. I'm planning on making some changes next year. I'm sure i'll still pick up R.L. Stine sometimes but yea...sorry.
Jen wrote: "I would participate in 2020! I'm having fun re-visiting Stine. Maybe except for Red Rain. Haha"Me too Jen. I'm definitely up for 2020.
I'm still in for as long as this goes, though I may skip a month now and again, depending on real life and what the book is that month.
I mean I might jump in now and then as long as it continues it's just I want to do a lot more next year so I don't want to promise anything. So i'd decline on choosing any monthly reads and just jump in where I can.

Just read the prologue and first few pages of chapter one so far. It seems okay-ish, but too soon to say. No offense to blonde people, but I've seen too many horror movies that use perfect little "innocent" seeming blonde children, so if I saw those boys I would nope right out of there!
