R.L Stine Challenge!
I get what your saying Stephanie. I think I suffer from that too. When I was listening to Children of the Night, I was having a really rough time at work and I think that contributed to my strong dislike for that book.
I hear you Steph, sometimes you just need a bit of 'fluff' to help switch your brain off, be it stress or just holiday quiet time.
I just read The First Evil and now I'm about to start the Second Evil. I liked the First Evil. I'm not sure if it's one that I read when I was younger or not, but I enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading the Second Evil.
Latasha wrote: "One evil summer that is."Thanks so much Latasha, I'll PM you, I have a little something to post to you too.
I just started The Third Evil and who really eats pea soup, especially if they've seen The Exorcist?
I'm currently working on Slade House. Hope you enjoy Beach Party :) I'll probably get to it when i'm done Slade House. It doesn't seem like it'll take long to read. I just have to...read lol.
Just got my copy of Beach House. I'm also just starting Slade House so I'll probably read it after that.
I've been away for a few days and started my Merfolk May book but I'll get to this toward the end of the week I think.
Hi! My name is Renee. I like working on my tan and sending mixed signals. Oh! And I have frizzy brown hair. 🙋🏽♀️
I wonder how different these books would be if Bob had a daughter. He just has 1 son, is that right?
It is really not a smart thing to say "What could happen?" in a horror book! Chapter one and I'm cringing at how shallow the girls are so far, but that is Bob for you! I also wonder how his writing would be if he had daughters. "Dad! Stop spying on me and my friends to see how teen girls act! It's creepy!"
I finished it...and the ending did not work for me personally. I'm not sure if it's me or not though. I ended up giving it a strong 2.
I just finished chapter 8. Why would she do that? Out of the fire into the frying pan, huh.... Why are all the boys in Stine's books so angry and mean? Why do they feel so entitled to the girls? Ugh!
Also Renee... I do not like you.
On chapter 12. I'm dragging my feet with this book. I don't think nostalgia is going to save this one. Some books you go into knowing they will have very questionable content (aka problematic stuff) and you can turn your brain off.
It is hard to turn your brain off when you realize these books were aimed at impressionable teenagers.
I've had a really busy month solo parenting while my hubby's been away but I'll be finally starting this tonight.
i bought Red Rain at a huge library book sale for 24. it's the audio cd's. i've got them al uploaded now. for whenever y'all are ready. i'm not in a hurry. How are you liking Beach Party Melanie?
I'm participating in the Queer Lit Readathon from the 2nd-8th, so I won't be getting to Red Rain until after the 8th but you don't have to wait on me if you want to read it sooner. I'll still get to it soon as the readathon is over :)
Hi all, I'm away in Oz at the moment but finished Beach Party. I quite liked it, I'd read it before but couldn't really remember who dunnit. I found Karen SUCH a bimbo, which was refreshing from the usual Stine character of bitchy teen.
I'm in no hurry. I haven't been in a reading mood, so I can start whenever the majority of the group is ready or whenever. :) But unless the book is really awesome, I will probably be very slow with it. lol
I finished Beach Party. Shallow girls and crazy guys, not one of his best. Also I agree the ending was really weak.
Last month was crazy on Litsy. This month should be calmer. I'm ready whenever y'all are for Red Rain.
I just finished Night of the Living Dummy 2. :)13 out of 50 of my books have been R L Stine, what with this group and reading Goosebumps for a GBs buddy read. (Reading them all in order, though I did miss a few of them.)
It looks like this is the year of R L Stine because there are 7 more books for this group and so many more GBs.
With the GBs buddy reads and this R L Stine is definitely my most read author. 12 out of 45 books this year for me have been Stine.
After the complete disaster and frustration of listening to the traveling vampire show, I’ll be starting this today.
Latasha wrote: "After the complete disaster and frustration of listening to the traveling vampire show, I’ll be starting this today."I'm sorry the traveling vampire show let you down Latasha. Good luck with Red Rain! I'm in the middle of the queer lit readathon but the last day is the 8th, so after that i'll pick up Red Rain.
Well you can take Bob out of the 90’s but you can’t take the 90’s out of Bob. We STILL have lots of sweaters, I think leggings or tights was mentioned. There’s a Dad joke... and more but I don’t want to say. I didn’t read what this one was about so I’m not sure what’s going to happen. If anyone wants the cd’s (audiobook) I don’t mind mailing them.
I just read the new post and for some strange reason I thought R.L. Stine only wrote the Goosebumps collection. Some librarian I am :( any who, I am going to read the first evil and get back to you. Look's like fun.
The Cheerleaders are really good compared to some of the others we’ve read.I’m struggling with Red Rain. These kids are evil. There’s some adult stuff in here and it’s awkward. I think R.L. Stine= childhood, fear street. Not sexy scenes. No! Bob no! You can’t write like that lol!
But really, the story is ok.

You're not alone! I didn't like it at all, well, maybe there was 5..."
Yeah I’m not sure I’ll read the other ones either. It held my interest enough to finish so it wasn’t all bad but just not my favorite one so far.
