Yeah I’m not sure I’ll read the other ones either. It held my interest enough to finish so it wasn’t all bad but just not my favorite one so far.

I get what your saying Stephanie. I think I suffer from that too. When I was listening to Children of the Night, I was having a really rough time at work and I think that contributed to my strong dislike for that book.

message 853: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 1656 comments I hear you Steph, sometimes you just need a bit of 'fluff' to help switch your brain off, be it stress or just holiday quiet time.

message 855: by Jen (new)

Jen I just read The First Evil and now I'm about to start the Second Evil. I liked the First Evil. I'm not sure if it's one that I read when I was younger or not, but I enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading the Second Evil.

Thanks so much Latasha, I'll PM you, I have a little something to post to you too.

message 860: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (bookwormahn) I just started The Third Evil and who really eats pea soup, especially if they've seen The Exorcist?

message 861: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments Lol! I actually thought of The Exorcist when I read that part and wrinkled my nose in disgust.

message 862: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (bookwormahn) Despite some of the cheesiness of the evil spirit it wasn't a bad ending to the trilogy.

i'll probably start Beach Party (Point Horror, #8) by R.L. Stine soon. i'm currently not reading anything.

message 864: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments I'm currently working on Slade House. Hope you enjoy Beach Party :) I'll probably get to it when i'm done Slade House. It doesn't seem like it'll take long to read. I just have to...read lol.

message 865: by Jen (new)

Jen Just got my copy of Beach House. I'm also just starting Slade House so I'll probably read it after that.

Spade House is a good one. Hope you both like it too.

Melanie | 1656 comments I've been away for a few days and started my Merfolk May book but I'll get to this toward the end of the week I think.

I wonder how different these books would be if Bob had a daughter. He just has 1 son, is that right?

message 872: by Alice (new)

Alice It is really not a smart thing to say "What could happen?" in a horror book!

Chapter one and I'm cringing at how shallow the girls are so far, but that is Bob for you! I also wonder how his writing would be if he had daughters. "Dad! Stop spying on me and my friends to see how teen girls act! It's creepy!"

I’m on the other side side eyeing her. 😒

message 877: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments I finished it...and the ending did not work for me personally. I'm not sure if it's me or not though. I ended up giving it a strong 2.

message 878: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
That’s what I’m leaning towards too.

message 879: by Alice (new)

Alice I just finished chapter 8.

Why would she do that? Out of the fire into the frying pan, huh.... Why are all the boys in Stine's books so angry and mean? Why do they feel so entitled to the girls? Ugh!

Also Renee... I do not like you.

message 880: by Alice (new)

Alice On chapter 12. I'm dragging my feet with this book. I don't think nostalgia is going to save this one.

Some books you go into knowing they will have very questionable content (aka problematic stuff) and you can turn your brain off.

It is hard to turn your brain off when you realize these books were aimed at impressionable teenagers.

message 881: by Alice (new)

Alice Finished and I agree with your feelings on the end. A 2-star book.

message 882: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 1656 comments I've had a really busy month solo parenting while my hubby's been away but I'll be finally starting this tonight.

i bought Red Rain at a huge library book sale for 24. it's the audio cd's. i've got them al uploaded now. for whenever y'all are ready. i'm not in a hurry. How are you liking Beach Party Melanie?

message 884: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments I'm participating in the Queer Lit Readathon from the 2nd-8th, so I won't be getting to Red Rain until after the 8th but you don't have to wait on me if you want to read it sooner. I'll still get to it soon as the readathon is over :)

message 885: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 1656 comments Hi all, I'm away in Oz at the moment but finished Beach Party. I quite liked it, I'd read it before but couldn't really remember who dunnit. I found Karen SUCH a bimbo, which was refreshing from the usual Stine character of bitchy teen.

message 886: by Alice (new)

Alice I'm in no hurry. I haven't been in a reading mood, so I can start whenever the majority of the group is ready or whenever. :) But unless the book is really awesome, I will probably be very slow with it. lol

message 887: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 926 comments I'm listening to Revenge of the Living Dummy, my first stine book since my early teens. Not bad

message 888: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (bookwormahn) I finished Beach Party. Shallow girls and crazy guys, not one of his best. Also I agree the ending was really weak.

message 889: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (bookwormahn) Last month was crazy on Litsy. This month should be calmer. I'm ready whenever y'all are for Red Rain.

message 890: by Alice (new)

Alice I just finished Night of the Living Dummy 2. :)

13 out of 50 of my books have been R L Stine, what with this group and reading Goosebumps for a GBs buddy read. (Reading them all in order, though I did miss a few of them.)

It looks like this is the year of R L Stine because there are 7 more books for this group and so many more GBs.

message 891: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments With the GBs buddy reads and this R L Stine is definitely my most read author. 12 out of 45 books this year for me have been Stine.

message 892: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 1656 comments I'll be ready for Red Rain in about a week or so, so don't wait for me.

I'm sorry the traveling vampire show let you down Latasha. Good luck with Red Rain! I'm in the middle of the queer lit readathon but the last day is the 8th, so after that i'll pick up Red Rain.

Well you can take Bob out of the 90’s but you can’t take the 90’s out of Bob. We STILL have lots of sweaters, I think leggings or tights was mentioned. There’s a Dad joke... and more but I don’t want to say. I didn’t read what this one was about so I’m not sure what’s going to happen. If anyone wants the cd’s (audiobook) I don’t mind mailing them.

message 897: by Kenny (new)

Kenny Ramos | 3 comments I just read the new post and for some strange reason I thought R.L. Stine only wrote the Goosebumps collection. Some librarian I am :( any who, I am going to read the first evil and get back to you. Look's like fun.

The Cheerleaders are really good compared to some of the others we’ve read.
I’m struggling with Red Rain. These kids are evil. There’s some adult stuff in here and it’s awkward. I think R.L. Stine= childhood, fear street. Not sexy scenes. No! Bob no! You can’t write like that lol!
But really, the story is ok.
