do you all want to continue this next year or was this enough Fear Street for ya? I'm ok either way.
I would love to continue. I have so many R L Stine books it isn't even funny. Plus if we wanted to we could branch off into his Point Horror if we run out of Fear Street. (or do other 80s/90s cheesy teen horror)I'll start First Date today or tomorrow.
I started First Date last night. I love how self absorbed teenagers are, even though I think that's hormonally normal. I would like to continue with Stine. I love rereading Fear Street and their are some of his adult books we could do.
Just started First Date and here we are again with body shamming, and shaming curly hair again as well (come on, what is so wrong with curly hair R.L Stine!?) and also rape culture with the boys in the car and that scene. A pretty scary real-world situation that no person wants to be in. I still love these books; yeah, I have a blind spot for them. I know they are outdated and problematic by today's standards.Chapter 2: what mom said about her weight & wearing makeup

Chapter 3: the boys in the car

I've read this one before, but I can't remember the twist or how it ends.
Okay, maybe something was wrong with me as a teen, but I can't remember thinking "Oh alas, I need a boyfriend to feel complete... boo hoo!" Also do any of you know of any local teen makeout spots? Or are those just made up for teen books and movies? hahaha
I never knew of any teen makeout spots Leigha. Also I was definitely not that clingy or needy with the guys I dated in high school.
I just finished First Date. I'll give it three stars. It is definitely entertaining but I'm not sure Chelsea is mature enough to be dating anyone.
I've startedI had issues with that part of Chapter 2 as well. (view spoiler)
Chapter 3 (view spoiler)
I can't remember any makeout spots either. I think that's made up for books and movies.

I never knew of any make out spots. I don’t mind including them in next year Melanie. We already have the rest of this year planned out.
Latasha wrote: "I never knew of any make out spots. I don’t mind including them in next year Melanie. We already have the rest of this year planned out."Excellent, it'll give me time to work on the rest of my TBR....Hahahahah ROTFL
I'm good with including his point horror books. Maybe we should change it to the R. L. Stine Challenge?
I finished and gave it a 3.25, I liked it and in the second half it became quite the page turner! Notes I took while readingChapter 6 (view spoiler)

I think that'd be great, the R.L. Stine challenge, he certainly has plenty of books to keep one busy for quite awhile!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
ok in January i'll change it to the R.L. Stine challenge. we'll keep the original order and add Melanie to the end so it will go - Ashley, me, Stephanie, Leigha, Melaine if that's ok with everyone. i'll probably keep to fear street books since I've bought almost all of them now. whenever y'all make your choices, send them to me and i'll add them to the top post.

I finished too. Gave it a 3 star. I think the "twist" could have been hidden longer, but that is just me. Also, it becomes so obvious too soon who the bad guy is. I'm ready for a book to have a supernatural force as the "bad" thing the main character is facing and not stuff that is real world scary. For next year, I vote we finish reading the Cheerleader series!
got my book today. rrrrr! paper stickers! it's missing the bottom right corner but other than it looks ok.
Latasha wrote: "got my book today. rrrrr! paper stickers! it's missing the bottom right corner but other than it looks ok."Is it the kind of sticker that can come off with goo gone? Don't quote me on this, but I read that people have been putting their books in the microwave for 30 seconds and stickers come right off. They warn not to open the book for a while because the binding glue will be loose, too. I haven't been brave enough to try that yet!
Well, I'm glad you got it within October at least! I hope you enjoy it.
This one came off easy and didn’t rip but omg I fuss about those freakin stickers. Im getting ready to start reading it.
Latasha wrote: "got my book today. rrrrr! paper stickers! it's missing the bottom right corner but other than it looks ok."Who puts stickers on books???!! That's up there with folding page corners, or, wait for it..bending the spine back all the way !!! Sacrilege.
These crazy people over here in the states lol. They even do it at the used book stores. There has to be an easy peel off variety.
Have any of you seen the documentary, killer legends? They explore the truth behind a few urban legends. It’s awesome. But the 2nd time I watched it, it scared me. I’m a single woman living alone & i has to stop watching.
I updated the reading list so whenever you pick one, let me know so I can add it to the list.I added my pics- the new boy, one evil summer & 99 fear street. I'm staying in Shadyside.
Stephanie wrote: "I shall choose Moonlight Secrets for March
and for August The Wrong Number"
Added them. Thanks Stephanie.

Looking forward to more R.L. Stine buddy reads :)
I think I read Moonlight Secrets when I was a teenager.
Latasha wrote: "I did not. I didn’t read any from that series."I think it might be the only Fear Street book I read when I was younger...I only vaguely remember reading one, and the synopsis sounds like it.
I also read Dangerous Girls 1-2 when I was a teenager but that's not a Fear Street book (and I read it again, the bind up of 1-2 called Bitten, last year).
Apart from the one barely remembered Fear Street book and Dangerous Girls I just read his Goosebumps books when I was younger. I read a couple Stephen King novels as a teen, Bag of Bones and Black House (I had no idea it's a sequel but I don't remember squat about it now anyway)
This book!! I swear! First Date- this girl is being left alone way too much after the robbery. And she goes on dates with guys that give her a creepy feeling. I hope she learns to trust her gut instinct one day. If she lives that long.
Finished! This one kinda made me angry. Everyone always making remarks about Chelsea’s weight and all the absent adults! I don’t remember it from my teenage years so I can’t tell you if I liked it then or not. Nina wasn’t a very good friend either. This poor girl. I hope she goes to college somewhere far away from Shadyside & her parents.
So it's okay if I'm choosing Stine books from the Point Horror collection? If so I'm choosing Beach Party and The Baby-Sitter for May and Oct.
Ok thank you, I’ll add them. Yep, those are fine. Next year anything goes as long as it’s R.L. Stine.
Latasha wrote: "Ok thank you, I’ll add them. Yep, those are fine. Next year anything goes as long as it’s R.L. Stine."Yipee!
I have ordered A New Fear, because it's January's, as well as The New Boy, Beach Party, One Evil Summer, Blind Date and The Baby-Sitter as I had to get used copies of those. I like used books just never know what's going to be available so I got them asap. The rest are all available on kindle as well so I'll get the rest next month and be all ready for next year! :D
Putting this here for my future reference. Also, are we starting The Stepsister soon?Books I Still Need:
Moonlight Secrets
Beach Party
Red Rain
One Evil Summer
The Wrong Number
Runaway
Can I make a bold suggestion, that we read two books for December? Silent Night 2?
If you want to. I can start The Stepsister at any timeI wouldn't mind reading Silent Night 2 as well. I'd have to get it next month but that wouldn't be a problem :)

Awesome! However, it is a trilogy, so I would be so bold as to say anyone who wants to join me this December to read all three... hehe

^_^ I should be able to join you. I've already used my book money this month but should have no issue getting Silent Night 2 & 3 next month. I have Amazon Prime so the latest I should have them is the 12th/13th. So it'd be perfect timing right around Christmas. I already have the first. (and both 2 & 3 are available on kindle anyway and I read in physical or ebook formats)

Cool. I have all three in a bindup. (My only option for getting the first one) We can talk further closer to December and see if anyone else wants to read all three books. They are quick reads at least!!
