I rated all these 5/5The Someday Birds
Train I Ride
Amina's Voice
Wishtree
still holding out for another spectacular contender in my January reading!
My absolute favorite for the year is The Hate U Give, but I don't think it will be considered for this group due to the mature writing of the book, so here are my nominations in no particular orderBeyond the Bright Sea
The Someday Birds
The Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus
Midnight without a Moon
One Last Word
If I could squeeze one more in it would be Three Pennies or The Losers Club
Many good ones this year!
So hard to pick just 5 but here are my top picks:1. A Crack in the Sea
2. Orphan Island
3. One Last Word
4. Midnight Without a Moon

These were actually the only two books I had with five stars from my Newbery reading! I thought I had more!
Four star books that have stuck with me though are:

Auma's Long Run
Here is my list1. Clayton Byrd Goes Underground
2. Hello Universe
3. Real Friends
4. Me and Marvin Gardens
5. Wishtree
I haven't read anywhere near all of the books I'd hoped to, but of the potential Newbery contenders I have read, these are my top picks:1. Tumble & Blue

3. The Ethan I Was Before
4. Forever or a Long Long Time
5. All's Faire in Middle School

I would also add I'm Just No Good at Rhyming and Vincent and Theo if I we could pick 7 but, alas, they are lower on my list. I think this is a big year and wonder how many books will be recognized this year. Is there a maximum? Can they pick 5 honor books?
