I also liked The Shining, It, and Eyes of the Dragon.
I could not get into The Tommy Knockers and I did not like The Stand.
I liked the movies for Fire Starter, and The Green Mile, but have not read the books. I’ve also watched Pet Cemetery which was okay, and Carrie which I didn’t like. I haven’t read those either.
I think I’ve seen The Shining in its entirety, but I don’t remember watching it in one sitting.

Ironically, I've watched alot of films based on King. They mostly sucked because directors had no talent, but the plots didn't interest me enough to think of reading King's horror books.
Shining and The magler stood out because duh, Kubrick, and lesser known but still awesome - Tobe Hooper.
Getting off-topic again...

I am however finding myself liking Joe Hill's books more.

But I AM a special snowflake! Living in the tropics, even!
:D
Horror is another thing I don't really read... I might occasionally read something that treads the line, but I never seek it out... I don't really watch horror movies either... last one I saw was the Joss Whedon one (Cabin in the Woods), and horror fans generally agree that that doesn't count anyway...

I think the problem I see on GR, and other social ..."
Chris I complete agree with you and that's what I do too when I hear something about an author. I research it myself and actually try to find where the author said or did something offensive. Otherwise it's just hearsay. I can respect different people's opinions and I don't let that sway me, it has to be pretty bad for me to completely not read an author's books.

Exactly! And no worries about the politics. I took it as you are saying everyone has a right to what they think on either side without being demonized.

@Chris, I understand what you wer..."
I pretty much do not know or care what they do outside of their books either.

The goodreads rating system... viewable by hovering over the stars:
* Didn't like it
** It was OK
*** I liked it
**** I really liked it
***** It was amazing
So it makes sense people would shift it and make 3 stars OK, drop a like, and include an "it was awful" at the bottom...
The star system as Goodreads laid it out seems like the old-school 4 star movie rating system, if you make 4 stars amazing, and drop the 5th...

I know how Goodreads expects people to rate, I just don't agree with it. How many different stars are needed to just like a book? My system is:
1* dnf/hated, rarely will I give a book 1*
2* disliked
3* meh, it was ok
4* liked
5* loved
And I think that's how most people rate books... considering how high the averages are... I know there are people that follow the guidelines as well, but I'm not one of them... I'm generous in my ratings on top of all that...
Like my profile says... I don't finish most things that would earn 1 star... and I don't usually rate DNFs... and 2 stars are mostly things I only read because I like the author/series too much to quit yet...

I will read almost anything but I’m less
Likely to read non fiction

I pretty much won't read erotica because I find it stupid and contrived the same way I do porn. I actually thing both could be entertaining if they were written correctly but it always comes off to me like a farce.
BTW I always find it funny that women who complain the loudest about porn are the same ones who seem to like erotica the most. I really don't see the distinction between the two.

Not book-related, but the pewdiepie nazi thing springs to mind. I knew the media were scumish, but that was the first time it hit me right in the face.
I don't go searching for info about ppl whose content I consume, but even if I learn something condemning I'm good at seperating their art from their personality, so the second doesn't lessen my enjoyment of the first.
I tried to read The tower by King, and I was like "what even is this?" and dnf'd.
