I read Catch Me If You Can: The True Story of a Real Fake, which is the true account of the story the movie and the musical were based off of. It's a good selection for those, like me, who wanted to read something less violent. All his crimes were paper-based and were more about how he swindled the system and evaded capture. It was a little different from the adaptions, but that's pretty normal, I think.

Read and really enjoyed The Feather Thief: Beauty, Obsession, and the Natural History Heist of the Century. Fascinating.
I'm reading a book about the Salem witch trials - The Witches: Salem 1692, by Stacy Schiff ... hoping that qualifies as "true crime"

I'm about 3/4 of the way through it, and that's enough to agree that I don't recommend it. Definitely not what I wanted/hoped it would be.
Hey guys.... I also tried reading The Witches: Salem 1692.....sorry to say that is one of few books that I just couldn't finish ! Which made me really sad!
I read Newtown: An American Tragedy. It was fine, but didn't really tell me anything that I didn't already know from reading the news about the shooting.
Finished this prompt with Starvation Heights: A True Story of Murder and Malice in the Woods of the Pacific Northwest because I slogged through it ( torture) and needed someplace to stick it. My original choice was In Cold Blood, I think I moved it to another challenge. The problem with Starvation Heights was that the writing was so dry and dragged out. The actual premise behind it , the murder was really very interesting and disturbing. If this had been cut by about 200 pages it would have been a great book, but as it stands I might have rated it 2 stars. Interesting to do a little research on the topic though. It was one that was mentioned in my feeds that I had never heard of, and it sounded interesting. I was fairly warned by a GR Friend not to do it, but I went there anyways. This book took me literally forever to finish :-(
I haven't read it, but For All the Tea in China: Espionage, Empire and the Secret Formula for the World's Favourite Drink might satisfy this category. It's written by a woman, for those of you reading only female authors. It might also satisfy task #5, as it involves India & China, both BRICs nations, & task #14, since it's history about economics, trade/shipping, & food, thus covering a swath of social sciences. :)
