Hi Cassie, I just read Murder on the Orient Express and liked it very much. I hope you will too! Are you an Agatha Christie fan?
Wishing you the best of luck and of course happy reading!!
Hi Suzy,I have never read Agatha Christie before. I worked in a library for 10 years so I am very familiar with the name, but it was never a genre I tended to read.
Hoping to branch out a bit more this year! I've just started Killers of the Flower Moon for our January book club (brand new) at work, hopefully they will keep me on track!
Great goals, Cassie! If you enjoy reading and discussing books with others, I recommend the buddy reads. It's one of my favorite aspects of this group. You can always suggest a book and if other members are interested, you're ready to go :)
Good luck reaching your goals in 2018!
Book 1 finished: Killers of the Flower Moon.Excellent - if somewhat depressing - read! Moving on to another history one: My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me by Jennifer Teege / Nikola Sellmair.

Curious to know how you will like Murder on the Orient Express!
Book 2 finished: My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me. 5/5 stars. I attended a lecture by Jennifer Teege in which she talked about her experiences as a black woman in Germany discovering her grandfather was Amon Goeth, one of the more notorious Nazi Kommandants. I need to go back and watch Schindler’s List now, it’s been years!Murder on the Orient Express is on my list after I finish Dorian Gray!
Congratulations on finishing your first three books keep up the great work and of course happy reading!
4 down! Finished Murder on the Orient Express... working right through the list!Moving on to Radium Girls, A Second Chance, and finishing up the audio version of Lightning Thief.
6 down, just finished Radium Girls. Fascinating book about a case that essentially started OSHA in the United States. Moving back to some fiction, continuing the St Mary’s series 👍
On a roll now! Book 7 finished, #3 in the St. Mary's Chronicles: A Second Chance. I'm glad I already have the fourth book ready to start because the ending left me wanting to dive right in!I will also be moving on to Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult with the book group at my work, continuing the audio version of The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, and trying to get through A Wrinkle in Time before I go to see the movie. March will be a busy book month!
A book is a dream that you hold in your hand. I hope that April brings you many more five star reads.
St Mary’s #4 A Trail Through Time finished. Vacation starts tomorrow, here’s to knocking out a couple books while I have time to relax!
Finished: The Great Influenza: The Deadliest Pandemic in History (audio version). This was a heavy / dense non fiction tome. It was hard to finish at times and I missed a lot of the scientific jumble, but it was an interesting subject overall.
“Reading brings us unknown friends” While the warm weather is coming I hope you make some new friends in May! You are doing great keep it up!
Summer updates.... up to 15/20 of my reading goal! The Arabs: A Short History by Philip Khuri Hitti, for an online course
Jodi Piccoult - 19 Minutes as part of a book group
A Wrinkle in Time. I liked this so much better as a kid.... I was not as much of a fan as an adult!
Kristin Hannah - The Great Alone.... highly recommend!!!
George Orwell - 1984. I appreciated this much more as an adult....
Attempted but failed: Riders by Veronica Rossi. Terrible. Not a single good thing to say about it, in my opinion.....
I’ve been listening to a lot of books now that I’m driving 1 1/2 hours every day!Finished:
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon
Scythe by Neal Shusterman (so obsessed!!)
Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone
Next on the list...
The Book Thief
Loving vs Virginia
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
You are on your way to having a great year in books! Do you have a book you still can't wait to read?
I've just finished The Book Thief (audio version). I had a love-hate relationship with it the entire time I was listening. At the end, I'm still not quite sure whether it falls into my "love" or "hate" list.... but it is most definitely in my "never forget" list.I also finished Loving Vs Virginia, which was short but interesting.
Still listening to Chamber of Secrets, and I'll be starting Before We Were Yours next. I think that's one that I've been especially excited for, I'm glad our book group is doing it!
FINISHED:Angels & Demons
The Da Vinci Code
Beartown
The Last Time I Lied
Before We Were Yours
I've read 25 books so far, hit my (increased) reading goal. Maybe I will push for 30 by the end of the year :)
That's tough!! Some of my favorites were books I typically wouldn't have read on my own.... Beartown was a great read, it was for a book club reading. I just found out there's a sequel, so I will have to go find that one now! I also want to read the sequel to Scythe, once I can get my hands on it (another book I wouldn't typically have chosen but book club forced me out of my comfort zone!).
The Great Alone was addicting, although I wasn't happy with the ending. Same with Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult.
