Jenna ✨DNF Queen✨Here, Sometimes... (jennabgemini) | 243 comments For this one I had intended to read A Season of Splendor: The Court of Mrs. Astor in Gilded Age New York but was given Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War for Christmas and since it fits and I'm dying to read it Mrs. Astor is getting bumped down the line 😆

Just read the description and put it on my "To Read" list. It sounds like a wonderful adventure!

I've been hearing things about this book for a while.

Emma (emmamaloco) | 11 comments This is my first ever reading challenge and I’m so excited to start! I’ve always loved reading but have gotten out of the way of it lately so I’m keen to dive back in! Thought I’d start on a book I have on my book shelf that I’ve been planning to read, and also because I’m a huge potterhead! Harry Potter and The Cursed Child!

message 60: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments This is my second year doing this particular challenge. I had such a great experience last year. I can't wait for January 1st so I can get started.
This year I am trying to choose books already on my TBR. I really need to shorten the list, it is getting, out of control.
For this prompt I will be reading All the Ugly and Wonderful Things.
Happy reading and good luck on the challenge!

message 61: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I've decided to go ahead and do this challenge again this year after failing so miserably last year :p But I'm going to be doing the challenges in order this time around.

I picked Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray for this first challenge and cannot wait to dive in!

Ten Thousand Skies Above You (Firebird, #2) by Claudia Gray

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments I'm reading Parker Pyne Investigates by Agatha Christie. I have read lots of her books but have never gotten round to her detective Parker Pyne

It’s quite good! I just started the second in the series, which unfortunately doesn’t have a “T” in the title. It is a somewhat demanding read, though - you have to pay attention and figure some things out as you go.

message 64: by Al (new)

Al East | 3 comments This is the first time I've done anything like this, and I'll have to try to finish my current book tonight!! (Dave Eggers' The Circle - highly recommended). I'm going to go for A Year of Marvellous Ways, as I have it. I was considering Me Talk Pretty One Day/David Sedaris, but that would fit well in a memoir, or maybe a lone voice option. Anyway - lots of investigating to do, and lots of tidying up and finding what books I have in the house! :-)

except there's no T in 'A Year of Marvellous Ways' - doh!

I love Agatha Christie! That should be a fun one to start off with.

Kathy E | 3308 comments I'm starting The Mistress of Husaby, a classic novel by Sigrid Undset, the second book in the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy.

message 69: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I’m reading The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily. I wanted to read it for Christmas, but apparently so did lots of people and my hold at the library just got through.

message 70: by Bernadett (new)

Bernadett | 1 comments im reading the third bridget jones book because thats the one part they didnt make a movie of and the 4th books movie just doesnt make any sense to me without knowing what happened in the 3rd book. Mad About the Boy

message 71: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1060 comments I'm reading Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. I'm giving myself a bonus point (aka a bag of caramel M&Ms) for getting ATY in the author's name as well as the title.

message 72: by MN (last edited Jan 01, 2018 05:21AM) (new)

MN (mnfife) I'm reading Maya Angelou, Wouldn't take nothing for my journey now. It's been part of my TBR mountain for a very, very long time, but, having picked it up and started it, I now have no idea why...

message 73: by Erika (new)

Erika wickwire I did On Tyranny instead of what I had first chose.

message 74: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (sgiffin) | 146 comments My choice for this prompt is A Court of Mist and Fury. I wasn't going for the letters A, T, Y being in order, but happily, they are.

This book is a bit chunky for the first book of the year, but since it's also YA, I think it'll read quickly.

message 75: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Decker | 27 comments In honor of it's recent 20th Birthday celebration, I will be reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I wanted a book in which A, T, and Y were in order, but was focused on finding a title containing a Y.

message 76: by Kenna (new)

Kenna I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I finished just after midnight on January 1. As usual, the book is better than the movies.

message 77: by kento (new)

kento (daechwita) | 3 comments I think I'll go with The Catcher in the Rye since it's been stuck in my TBR for 3 years!

message 78: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 1 comments Out of pure coincidence my first book up in 2018 actually fits this challenge prompt - BeneAth a ScarleT SkY. YAY!

message 79: by ash | (new)

ash | (sffreads) I *think* I'm using All the Pretty Horses because I love this author and I already own the book!

message 80: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 3 comments I’m going to read That Bear Ate My Pants. I want my first choice for this year to make me laugh.

message 81: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments I’m planning to read in order this year. I could find plenty of options for this category when working on my plan so I decided to shortlist a few and then decide on 1st January what I felt like reading.

Today I felt like reading Rest, Play, Grow: Making Sense of Preschoolers (Or Anyone Who Acts Like One, so that’s where my 2018 reading year is starting. I’ve only read the introduction so far but it seems like a good choice for me and I’m looking forward to continuing with it.

Thank you for your list. I chose “That Bear Ate My Pants!” from it.

message 83: by Maria (new)

Maria (malianikeki) | 92 comments My first prompt for the year, I read Adulthood Is a Myth by Sarah Andersen. Don't think I will read the prompts in order, but we'll see.

message 84: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (watermelanie) | 112 comments I'm reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian for this and loving it so far. This is my first time reading Alexie and I just love his voice, it's so striking and characterful.

message 85: by Jason (last edited Jan 01, 2018 10:48AM) (new)

Jason Stokes | 5 comments I decided to read Quarry's List by Max Allan Collins. It's the second in the Quarry series. Being a rather short pulp read I've already completed this book and must say I loved it every bit as much as the first one.

Quarry's List by Max Allan Collins

message 86: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Yawn (southernstardust) | 2 comments A lot of us can just scan our TBR stacks and find something easily. I did and found 3. Two of these had tbe word "city" in the title, so I thought that would be a good way to search--choose a word with two of the letters in it and then search for that word in titles until finding titles with the third letter in the other words. I settled on The City of Brass.

message 87: by Elle (new)

Elle I'm reading the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy this week, which fits the description!

message 88: by Jen (new)

Jen | 40 comments I'm planning to go with They Both Die at the End. Hoping to go right in order with the list this year - it sounds like fun!

Jen | 40 comments Katrina wrote: "I read this wrong and thought you needed all three letters so I'm reading The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August a book which has been on my tbr shelves for too long."

Crystal (myeerah) | 125 comments - What are you reading for this category?
Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray

- Which letter are you focusing on?
I lucked out because it was already on my Kindle waiting to be read and I noticed it had all 3 letters!

message 93: by Erin (new)

Erin I'm going with "Its Always the Husband" by Michelle Campbell.

message 94: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Looked through my bookshelves for something on my "I should read this" list and found one that works for the first week's topic and also fits in well with my "I need to start writing more" plan for this year.

Thus, I'm reading Writer with a Day Job by Áine Greaney.

This is my first (and only) group, my first challenge, and I believe even my first Goodreads post so my apologies if I'm doing something incorrectly... please let me know!

message 95: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Rosas | 4 comments For this week i'm reading "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" from J.K.Rowling

message 96: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 423 comments - What are you reading for this category? Lonely Hearts
Lonely Hearts (Charlie Resnick, #1) by John Harvey
- Which letter are you focusing on? I actually bought a book the had been on my "to read" "not at the library" list for awhile (Aberystwyth Mon Amour), but it's not in yet so this was the oldest book in the TBR list that fit.

It was terrible. Such a generic cop thriller, where everyone is shacking up with everyone else, and the rules are more like guidelines, and "I'm a tough guy but I still care deep down". Blah. Hopefully my initial pick will be better.

message 97: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 393 comments Day 1 and I've already changed the plan lol. I'll be reading Bridget Jones's Diary :D

message 98: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Osborne | 2 comments This is my first try at the 52 books in a year. For week 1 I'm going with All the Ugly and Wonderful Things because it has been sitting on my shelf forever. Perfect opportunity to finally knock it out. Hoping I have as much luck in the weeks to come!

I'm enjoying it so far! I love stuff that relies on you to put things together like this so it's really interesting.

message 100: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments So many great books to choose from menyioned in this thread, but I'm going with The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry because it was on my TBR shelf and the library had it available.
