I’m focusing on books I have owned for quite a while too. Struggling with the dilemma of sticking to that vs allowing myself to participate in group/buddy reads of other books. As you say, we should enjoy reading, it shouldn’t feel like a chore or a competition! So I wish you the best of luck Libby but above all I wish you a very happy reading year!
Challenge #2The Chain Reaction
2. The Book of Negroes tells a story of a former slave so I will be reading Up from Slavery by Booker T Washington
3. Up From Slavery was written in the 1900s. Another book written in that era is Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery. Written in 1909. This will be a re-read for me.
4. Anne of Green Gables was set in Canada which is a Commonwealth country which brings us to British author, Ruth Rendell. I'll be reading A Sleeping Life
5. Another book that deals with secrets, deception and murder: A Mind to Murder by P.D James

Kim wrote: "So is the TBR challenge to read 4. That's a TBR goal I can probably stick to!"You can set the TBR challenge (and I guess any other challenge) for as many or as few books as you like Kim!
Kristin wrote: "Libby, you have some great goals for 2018. I'm happy to see that you are participating in some challenges. Can you explain the challenge from another group? It looks intriguing :-)Wishing you luc..."
Hi Kristin! Sorry for the late reply. The 12+4 challenge is quite simple: you have to read 12 books in the year (they must be books from your tbr shelf for more than a year, I believe). “Alternates” are extra books you can read after you finish the previous 12. Hope that makes sense :)
Blagica wrote: "Good luck with your goal, Libby! Do you know what book will start your year?"I haven’t decided yet but I’m thinking of doing 1 or 2 books per challenge in each month

School work is getting in the way of my reading but I've found audiobooks to be very very helpful :)
A book is a dream that you hold in your hand. I hope that April brings you many more five star reads. Do you have a stand out book so far this year?
“Reading brings us unknown friends” While the warm weather is coming I hope you make some new friends in May! You are doing great keep it up!
It's been really hard for to focus on my challenge while I'm currently in school. So far I finished The Picture of Dorian Gray and a couple of graphic novels that aren't part of my challenge lol. It's going ever so slowly but I'm still reminding myself that it's not a race!

How did you like Dorian Gray btw?
@Susy :) Thank you. You're right. Enjoying a book first is what I want to focus on the most. I thought Dorian Gray was okay (I gave it 3/5 stars). It took a while for me to really get into it. It started to pick up for me by chapter 12 and I enjoyed the rest of the book after that.
Blagica wrote: "I agree with Susy if you can find a great book to read with great friends you have already won."Very true. Thank you, Blagica :)
