WHAT AN AMAZING PART!

Let's start off by talking about Spook:
- Spook has become such an interesting character. I would never have imagined the same goofy boy from The Final Empire would become this powerful Allowmantic anomaly, having the power of two metals. Not only that, but his Tin abilities have become so strong he now where's an eye patch, gloves, and ear plugs to protect him from his extremely hypersensitive senses.
- In chapter 23 we get some backstory of Spook growing up as a child in the Eastern Lands, where he was a skaa urchin. The tragic story of how his dad wanted to kill him, and even went so far as to say: - “You’re not my son! My son went into the mists and never came out. You must be a mist-wraith.”
We also learn the meaning of his name, Lestibournes: "Lefting I'm born" which is street slang for "I've been abandoned". I'm so glad Clubs saved him.

- This leads me to the next subject, which has been on my mind the whole time I've been reading.......... APPARENTLY KELSIER IS BACK. OR HE'S A SPIRIT... OR SOMETHING! I NEEEED TO FIND OUT MORE! Hopefully there will be some more information on this in Part Three.

Sazed:
- Sazed, who in the last book was one of my favorite characters, is one of my least so far in this one. Don't get me wrong, I still like him and feel bad for him, but dude the end of the world is happening and you're still moping about the death of your girlfriend and your religious dilemma. I worry for him, but at the same time it all feels very selfish of him to be so focused on his internal struggles when he could be helping those around him find ways to fight Ruin.
- Wow so the remaining Terris people have moved to The Pits of Hathsin! :O

The Ball in Fadrex City
- This is BY FAR one of my favorite parts of the series. I just love how bold and badass the actions of Vin and Elend were, to drop in and attend a ball in a city they plan on conquering.
- The way Vin dealt with Lady Petresen, and to see her followers ditch and flock to Vin, was so satisfying.
- And Elend's talk! This Yomen guy really is a devout follower of The Lord Ruler.
- I LOVED the dance scene! Hahaha when Elend pulled out the book XD
- On a side not I also really enjoyed the earlier scene where Vin met Slowswift.

TenSoon
- We got some information about the two God's that Kandra believe it (no surprise, it;s Ruin and Preservation) with Preservation being the one the Kandra serves.
- We learned about inherit blessings, OreSuer's was Potency.
- YES! TenSoon escaped! And shattered the bones of KanPaar and some others while he was at it ;) Good job TenSoon! No way he's going to suffer for ten generations >:(
tensoon

As for the italic passages, we got quite a few interesting ones in this part! One of them that I found particularily neat was for chapter 25, where it states that skaa and nobles are made with slight physiological differences. It's been really neat learning how the Lord Ruler changed things.
- I also found the italic passage stating that the Lord Ruler banned the knowledge of gunpowder and technology to be really interesting! I wonder how advanced their civilization could have been by now :O

P.S. I have exams in a few days and am extremely nervous, wish me luck!

Dimitris (dimitris_lianos) First: I'm very happy you did well in your Exams! It was expected, of course. :)))

Second: I rolled to the floor laughing when I saw the pic you chose for Ore'Seur! Hahaha. Yes, even that dog's look is spot on. It's kinda sad that we associate a 700-year-old supernatural being with a big dog but there really isn't anything else to do... except to depict his Essense as... I don't know, the transparent thing that comes off a nose when one is under a severe cold. Add two pins and some toothpics sticking out and there's our Ore'Seur TenSoon. What a character! <3

Yes! I was so glad he managed to flee the Fatherland when he didn't succeed in his trial! Like Spook, he's grown to slowly become one of my absolute favorite characters! I have already finished the book for 10 days now and I can't write much without spoiling. But I remember a big question that arose in me as I was reading this Part: why are the Kandra so stupid? What's their purpose for serving the Lord Ruler in life?

Elend in the ball was an exquisite moment of writing. The politics behind this whole scene were so dense. I love this guy soooo much! He's still that great man of ethics and principle, trying hard to be kind, to spare as many lives as possible, even lives of those who hate him, even without having to answer to anyone. He has a set of values of his own and will not compromise. Kelsier was great too but he was a man of his times, thinking and acting as a rebel slave in a cruel world.

Elend is not like that. In a way, he reminds me of the pure goodness of Kell Maresh, of Jon Snow - the TV Jon, I haven't read the books yet. I would go as far as to compare him to Shakespeare's Hamlet main character, in that his life is shaped by that same dilemma as that of the Prince of Denmark: "how should one act when his moral level is so much higher that everyone else's around him!" (or maybe I'm just being silly...)

It was just... the icing on the cake when he asked Vin to dance and then pulled out the book! <3 He's romantic too, daaaamn...

I will add here a fact that occured in these pages and struck me as important: the Spirit of the Mists appeared again.

Also, the passages in italics that make it clearer and clearer that these aren't fragments of some 1000-year-old lost diary anymore but writings of someone in our group, probably composed after the last big battle that lies ahead somewhere! I think it's Sazed. What do you think?

I'd like it to be Sazed because he has disappointed me so much lately as well... These thoughts in italics are very coherent and uplifting, suggesting that - if he's indeed their author - he somehow snapped out of it somewhere in the near future. Amen to that! For me, his lowest point ever is when Spook summons up the courage and informs him that he sees Kelsier, and Sazed doesn't even believe him! NO! Just... no! I was so furious when I read this paragraph... Where has our Terrisman disappeared to?... :/

PS: I want Kelsier back too! Badly. But how can it be? Is he resurrected? But how? His bones are there, Ore'Seur used them in the Final Empire finale, following Kelsier's order. Has he become a god? Like "the first real god" of all the religions Sazed rejects? Because people really do believe in him as god, this is what it takes? Or is it all a hallucination?...

Thank you! ^_^

Hahahaha, there's hardly any good fan art of OreSeur's Kandra body, so I had to go with the dog XD But yes, he could basically just be depicted as a blob with toothpicks!

I'm really glad you went ahead and read through the book! College really tied me back, but now that I've finished it I had a lot more time to focus on reading. I just put up my final discussion!
TenSoon is such a character, I love that Kandra. Hmm at this point I didn't really know what the Kandra's purpose was either, I guess just to spy and what not, for the Lord Ruler.

Yesss Elend definitely is a man of high morals, while also knowing what has to be done. The ball scene was fantastic, the part where he pulled out the book still makes me chuckle XD

Was it in this part that the Mist Spirit Appeared again? I think it was in the third part.

Yeah I was thinking the italics was Sazed during this part as well!
It gave me hope that he would eventually heal enough to be interested in sharing knowledge again :/ his depression was just so depressing.

While reading this part I was definitely wondering if Kelsier had actually become a God or something! There's NO way he could appear to Spook! :O
