The Metamorphosis chapter 2 (12/8-12/18)

There is a great deal of symbolism in Kafka's The Metamorphosis. One example is the question of whether Gregor's transformation is symbolic of his sense of alienation? Is he a bug or is he simply feeling alienated from all those around him in that he is not appreciated?

I always thought that due to the brutal, crushing of the individual by bureaucracy, Samsa began to saw himself as a bug who would be better off crushed and be done with. At the beginning of the book, it appears his image has started reflecting his thoughts on himself.
