I will miss Capaldi fiercely, but Moffatt seems to be doing right by him with the season finale and this special.
I look forward to episode, but, by the same token, I, too, will miss Capaldi. He brought some of the magic back to the show.
Sigh. 😑
I hope Jodie Whitaker can keep the magic alive.

I'm also thrilled that they're folding David Bradley in as an "official" first Doctor. I really enjoyed the docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time, he did such a good job as William Hartnell and as Hartnell as the Doctor.

Yes, I really enjoyed An Adventure and he's very good as Hartnell/Doctor! Did you get a kick out of Delia Derbieshire dancing around in the background putting the theme together?

Yes, I did. I was so pleased with every aspect of film. My only regret was that it wasn't longer - or that they had made one for each of the classic Doctor's eras.
I just heard there's going to be a Peter Capaldi as the Doctor retrospective following the xmas special. I hope they include that on the disc release.

I was so wrong.
So, a good cry in a quiet corner and I'm feeling capable of coherant thought again.
I miss him already.
So well done on almost every level, that I find myself even missing Stephen Moffat.
He tied up just enough loose ends and gave us just enough story to leave room for some brilliant moments between the two Doctors.
The old Tardis set is so pretty.
And how great was Mark Gatis?
So, good and it's going to be a long wait till next season.

In the meantime, I've started re-watching the old series from the beginning. I just finished The Crusade this afternoon. Tomorrow morning I'll start on The Space Museum. ;)

Suffice to say here that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a run around but after the overblown messes we've had the last couple of regenerations I don't think that is a bad thing at all. Especially when it's as well done as this was.

I noticed one "goof". Hopefully this bit isn't much of a spoiler. When The Doctor (12) had everyone follow him to jump onto the chains that were hauling the TARDIS. The order of jumping was Doc 12, Doc 1, The Captain, Bill, then Bill again (or she's adjusting from her jump). With that scene when they slid down the chains to the top of the TARDIS I thought, "that must hurt their palms". Not as bad as rope burns but still might hurt the hands a bit.

Yeah, I noticed that too, though at the time I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the scene.
I did like the episode. It definitely had some truly sad moments, like the Christmas Truce scene, and the scenes between Bill and the Doctor, etc. I do not think Bradley did a bad job with the First Doctor at all. Some of what he said was definitely dated, but it was nice to see how much the Doctor has progressed since his first appearance.
That smile on Jodie Whitaker's face at the end of the episode and her "Brilliant" makes me really hopeful.

I really enjoyed him as William Hartnell in An Adventure in Space and Time, so I had high hopes for his appearance as the actual Doctor. Good to hear it went well.
As I said, I've been re-watched the old series, and am always amazing at how little has changed in some ways and how much has changed in others. The chauvinistic attitudes being among the latter.

The first was stuffy and old fashioned, fine write him that way, but the over done, obvious attempt to create a shield from criticism for a writer who also has a rep for making some callous sexist remarks was more offensive to me just because it was so clunky.
It could have been done so much better.
The later scenes with the First and Bill were really nice, but everybody is fixated on the early stuff.

I don't agree with all the rankings, but there's some interesting observations.

Yes, there are several that, to me, are too high on the list and should be slipped back several spaces. Otherwise, an interesting list.

David Bradley as One: Of course he's not Hartnell, and he hasn't got Hartnell's cadence, however, I think he's got One's spirit, so that bodes well.

He does quite well and I think capturing the spirit and ethos of past Doctors is the secret to making it work. He certainly does a fantastic job on audio with the new First Doctor Adventures set from Big Finish.

Re: Big Finish: I'm glad to hear that! I have the boxset, but have not listened to it yet. :)

I really, really need to get more of these audios. :(
I've only got a handful of the Eighth Doctor's adventures. Someday ...
