Introduction and Welcome Thread
Welcome Mo! Sophy is a good one. I think it's the wackiest of them all. Welcome to the wonderful world of Georgette Heyer!
Hi SandiWe did have a thread about the new grand Sophy editions which I have closed & archived.
But I can open a new thread about it when I get home from the Museum, as long as Jenny is ok with that.

Yes, it's probably better to have a separate thread for this discussion - it doesn't really belong in 'Introduction & Welcome'!

Hi, My name is Anne.I've discovered Georgette Heyer when I was a teenager in the 1970s.
I'm not sure which came first, but the first two books I read by her were The Reluctant Widow and The Grand Sophy .
They were both quite different, but so funny thatt I read as many as I could. These were the first "grown-up" books I read that were fun!
I think my current favourite The Talisman Ring, but really I love them all!

Hello Anne! They are funny, aren't they? I do like a romance that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Thank you!
Welcome to the group Anne. I read my first Heyer when I was 11. It was Devil’s Cub and I loved it and swiftly read These Old Shades. That was it for me, I became a life long fan and I’ve read all of her books. I much prefer her Georgian and Regency novels and I have a top 10 which I re-read annually and another ten or so that I re-read every few years. Thee are a few of her books that I didn’t like and won’t read again unless their choices in this group but I always the enjoy the discussions here. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Welcome Anne!
We don't do a Group Read in December as it is a busy month for most of us, but in January we will be reading Death in the Stocks There is no obligation to take part though. :)

But I've realised recently that a book I didn't enjoy in my teens might be a book I do enjoy in my 60s, so I'm now open to rereading them :)

They start on the first of the month & there are two threads - one with no spoilers (or spoilers hidden behind spoiler tags, & one with open spoilers & final conclusions.
Anne wrote: "But I've realised recently that a book I didn't enjoy in my teens might be a book I do enjoy in my 60s, so I'm now open to rereading them :)That did happen to me - & there is only one GH book which I now like slightly less.

Just discussing the book chosen! It's very informal - you just post or comment if you have anything to say, and don't if you don't.

Thank you. I've ordered Death In The Stocks and already own False Colours!
Hi, My name is Sophy. My go-to fun fact about myself was that I was actually named after the Sophy from the Grand Sophy.
Despite this, the first book I read by her These Old Shades, was swiftly followed by Devil's Cub. I have read a few of her books over the years and I did eventually read The Grand Sophy.
So far I have enjoyed all the books I have read by her, and I am always quite happy to read one I haven't before.

Welcome Sophy!
You are the first person I have met who was named after a GH character!
Hope you enjoy your time with us - atm we are reading a GH mystery Death in the Stocks but there is no obligation to join in if you don't want to!

That's so cool! I'm glad you enjoy Heyer's novels and embrace your name!
Hi, my name is Lois. I started reading Georgette Heyer’s regency novels — Sylvester, the Grand Sophy and the Foundling are favourites — but I am also a fan of her detective fiction.Recently I have begun collecting versions read by different narrators. Clifford Norgate is particularly good narrating Envious Casca but I have lost my copy and would like another. Ulli Birve is very good reading No Wind of Blame; not so good reading Behold Here’s Poison. Audible’s newest narrator of Heyer’s detective fiction, Matt Addis, has been very disappointing. I’m at a loss to know why a company would produce a new series and do such a mediocre job
I have searched amazon, thriftbooks, alibris, etc for CDs of orgate and Birve recorings without much success.
Would anyone have CDs of Heyer audiobooks of these or other narrators that you would like to share/sell?
Thanks very much.

Welcome Lois - I hope you enjoy your time here. The three books you named are favourites of mine too.
I can't help with your CD request as I'm really deaf - but another member may be able to.
Hi, Lois, and welcome! I’m also a fan of Heyer audiobooks, and agree on Berve, I haven’t come across Aldergate, and only have one Audible with Addis, I thought he was okay. I really loved Phyllida Nash’s recordings of Heyer’s romances, and those have disappeared in favor of newer narrators. Sorry, I just use Audible credits or my city library to listen to her books.
Hi Lois and welcome! please feel free to post on any threads no matter how old they are. I wish I had audio CDs (or whatever else would be permanent) of Heyer novels with some of the narrators people rave about. I won't pay for audible but keep waiting for the perfect book (Heyer?) to use via the free trial.
From audio books I've gotten from the library I know for sure it really matters who is narrating.
Hi there I'm Misti - I've been on a G.H. kick this year and decided to see what's up in this group. My first Heyer was probably Behold, Here's Poison when I was a teenager (many years ago). I had never read one of her romances until about 8 years ago when I picked up Black Sheep on a whim. Now I've read 18 of her books and just love them. I don't know why but even the ones I'm reading for the first time are just so comforting to me, like old friends. Black Sheep, Faro's Daughter, and Frederica are probably my favorites, if I'm choosing today. :)
Welcome Misti. Black Sheep is a favourite of mine too. You'll enjoy the group. There are some great discussions on the monthly reads which this month is The Quiet Gentleman and Regency Buck for May.
Hi Misti--Welcome! Black Sheep is always in my top 10 of GH's books. You started with a good one.
And you have many more to come. Lucky you!

Hi Misti and welcome. please feel free to post on any threads here in the group no matter how old. We never get tired of talking about her books. I envy anyone who has yet to discover my favorites some of which include The Grand Sophy, The Reluctant Widow, and The Toll-Gate.

I adore The Reluctant Widow! I have the others on my shelf. :)
Hi, everyone. I'm Laura and looking forward to reading "Regency Buck" for the 5/24 read. I have collected Heyer books for years. I prefer large print, as easier to read.

Hello,I've been reading and re-reading Heyer for 45 years. My first Heyer was "Frederica;" however, I did not finish it. At 12/13 years old, I found the language/style hard to get through. Fast forward a few years, and I read "Faro's Daughter." I was hooked.
It is very hard to pick a favorite, but something with both a romance and a mystery - like "The Talisman Ring" or "The Toll-gate" - are very appealing.

Welcome Mo!
We are reading Pistols for Two/Snowdrift atm. They are some of GH's short stories. Then we are likely to take a month off for Christmas & to catch up on our Heyer reads before resuming in January. :)
There is no obligation to join in all or any of our reads. :)
