Hello UAE Good Readers. Did you ever order books from the website Bookdepository.com ? I heard lots of good things about it including the wonderful free shipping they offer. I was so intrigued and curious so I placed an order and now i'm eagerly waiting for my 7 books. Share your experience with BD down below! x

I love shopping at the Book Depository, I've been using it for years.

It should be at the post office, check ur box or ask at the desk.They usually send them individually so they fit in the box but sometimes they're too big.
Sadly no.. I think it is because I haven't mentioned my PO Box no. However, I did contact BD & they said they'd send me replacement copies.I hope it works out this time..

Just to make sure, when placing an order, where do you usually include your PO box no.? Do you mention it in the "Address line" box?
Under PostcodeBut then it's saved and you don't have to enter it again.

Hey! I order from there quite often! They're really good - there's no better feeling than picking up books from your post box!I chose the "no postcode" option and mentioned the pobox number in the address instead - i receive my books just fine.

Hey girls, I just found out about Book Depository. I am a little confused about the delivery system though. I don't have a PO Box Number in Abu Dhabi. I am living with some extended family temporarily and I was wondering if i Could get the books delivered directly to the house?? Is that a possibility?

hello guys! been looking for a relevant post about bookdepo and chanced upon this page on goodreads. I recently ordered books from bookdepository.com and I was not able to put a po box on the address since we didn't have any of that sort here in Al Ain. So what I did is that I mentioned our street address.. do you have the same experience, if so, how did you receive yours? btw mine had been dispatched from UK.. did they use a courier for your orders? or did you just went in to the emirates post office to check if any of your books arrived? since you only provided a normal address, im afraid your books might get lost or sent back to BD. better to use your company's p.o. box if possible.

Oh I had the same experience. Last year I forgot to put the po box and after waiting and waiting I finally asked them, it seemed the order was lost. They were kind enoughto send it again, this time to a po box address but then again it never reached me and I gave up >.< But I always hear good stuff about them so I will try again later.

Alas, they informed me that for the parcels to be successfully delivered here in UAE, a PO box is required. So most probably my first shipment will not reach me and will be sent back to them, but they did helped me out and arranged for a replacement set. I made sure to provide a proper PO box address this time, so fingers crossed the parcels will reach me before the end of the year..
Guys, I've bought several books from BD, and haven't received them although it's been more than two weeks. I have indeed added a detailed address (that includes a P.O. Box), but haven't received anything yet. Anyone here experienced a bit of a delay in receiving their books from DB?
P.S. Also, I'm assuming no books are banned here in the UAE, but is something like that possible? I mean could a book possibly "not pass" customs here?
I had an issue where my book came up after a month. Sometimes they delay way too much and I have no idea why :/
Hmm, that's too bad. Since almost 20% of the books I've read were no where to be found in the UAE, I had to resort to online shipping and I usually used to do that from Amazon. But the discounted prices and free shipping of BD lured me in. Not sure if it's worth it though??
Get in contact with them. They just replaced a parcel that never reached me. First time in 3 years of ordering from them. They will see that you get your books. And I had a few books from them that were not on sale in the emirates with no delays or problems at all.
All you need is post box address. But of course you have to physically go and collect from your post office.

I'm still waiting. I don't own a personal post box address. I just use my company's, which usually used to work when I shipped via amazon. So it's either I've been unlucky with both separate shipments, that the company's P.O.Box isn't the right way to go, or that those books are maybe not being allowed through customs. But thanks for the advice Sana!
Ahmed, I also use my company's P.O. box and never had an issue so far. I ordered a couple of times and I almost always get my books around 3 weeks from the time the status is 'dispatched'.BD is now my first stop for books, WAY better than Amazon and their 2-3 months delivery (not to mention their laughable shipping rates to UAE!).

Sorry for double-posting, I just saw your other comment regarding banned books.I guess that certain categories are banned as I had a problem importing some Manga comics before; the shipping service I was using refused to ship it here due to being against import regulations. (I disputed, since I personally saw worse comics being sold by certain retailers here, but that didn't get me anywhere)
I never tried ordering those through BD though, so if you suspect it might violate some regulation, it wouldn't hurt to contact their support and ask them about it.
So here's what happened with me guys. I contacted BD support and explained that even though I added my P.O.Box to the shipping address and not to the "post" section, that this might be the reason for the delay. Support sent the book again, adding my P.O.Box to the post section, and it also still hasn't arrived. Adding my P.O.Box to the shipping address used to work fine with Amazon, so I don't see any reason why it isn't working now! It's driving me crazy.
My only thought right now is I'm not getting the books due to a certain regulation break since the book is called 'The God Delusion' so I can understand why it would be banned, although I have bought and read books here that discuss Atheism...
I'm just really frustrated.
Ahmed, when did they resend your package? It should take at least 3-4 weeks again from the time they sent you a new one.
Alright guys, so here's the update.After contacting BD and explaining that the reason I haven't received the books is that I added my P.O.Box to the address and not to the "postal" section, they fixed this for me and resent the books. Both books have now been successfully received.
So for all future purchases, always add your P.O.Box number to the "postal" section of your address.

Your prices might be competitive relative to outlets here in Dubai,(and that's without adding in the shipping rates) but certainly not online outlets similar to BD.
