Thanks, Z-squared!If I understand moderator rivka correctly, we are supposed to retain the name I.M. Diakonoff for this title, since that is the way the author's name appears on the cover of this book, "Early Antiquity" (as well as some others).
I see now that this author already has a lengthy profile under yet another name: Igor Mikhailovich Diakonov.

Ideally, I would love to add this author to my favorites list and have his profile come up along with all his titles, regardless of how his name is spelled in one publication or another.
Hrm. The rules get a little fuzzy when an author has published under multiple names, some with initials, some with full names. If there's been no effort on the author's part to separate pen names (e.g., by genres, for example), then the usual procedure is to use the spelled-out name, because the philosophy is the more info, the better.Sooooo I merged the author under Igor M., rather than I.M. However, you're right about the other spelling of his name. I'm not entirely sure what to do in this instance, whether to merge or not, and if so under what name. So I left them alone, but I added a link from Diakonoff to Diakonov. It isn't clear to me which shoud reign supreme.

Also, please link I.M. Diakonoff to Igor M. Diakonoff.
