Logistical Questions about the Group

This is a thread for members to ask questions about the logistics of the group, or for me to announce any new information to help members plan. I know we have a lot of threads, which could be overwhelming.

Basic information:

(1) The focus of the group is a group read of Emily Wilson's recent translation of The Odyssey. This read will begin in March 2018. I'll post a schedule later in December. Although our main focus is Wilson's translation, some members are choosing to read other translations, which may be helpful as we discuss Wilson's translation decisions.

(2) Optional group reads are being organized by group members. We have a separate folder -- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... -- in which members can plan and organize these reads. For larger reads, moderators will set up folders with discussion threads within them so members can read at their own pace. Otherwise, we can post a single discussion thread in which members can post comments, questions, and reactions.

(3) The first organized optional read is of The Iliad. It will begin December 16, 2017. There's no schedule for the read, but discussion threads have been set up here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... Most participants are planning to read Fagles or Alexander.

We have another two optional reads coming up in case anyone is raring to read The Odyssey and wants to compare some specific translations. For the month of January, there will be a read of the 1963 Robert Fitzgerald translation of The Odyssey, and in February, interested group members can join a read of Stanley Lombardo's translation of The Odyssey. The object here is to compare translations, so if any group members want to explore additional translations before we read Wilson's translation in March, please let me know.
