SOLVED. YA novel girl breaks up with stalker boyfriend for boy named Shane [s]

Back in 1997 I read this book in English class that was about this teenage girl who had a boyfriend who was really clingy.

She met a new kid named Shane (and he made a point of saying he was specifically named that by his parent's because of the movie) and broke up with her boyfriend to date him.

The stalker boyfriend then proceeded to wreck havoc on her life. Does anyone have any idea what this book is called?

I seem to remember the cover having a blood and a rose on it but it is NOT 'The Boyfriend' by RL Stien, which has a similar look and sound but no one named Shane in it.
