Only for very mature sixth graders; you should probably pre-read it first. Appropriateness aside, it made me laugh, cry, and re-read it 3 times this year.

This feels more middle/high school to me, but if you have an mature sixth grader, I agree this book could work. I love it as well, and it will definitely get kids thinking about kids who have terminal illnesses or conditions.
I'm glad to find another fan! I like to say that kids can start to read anything, but if it gets too violent/sad/boring/adult (depending on the book), they can always put it down and read it when they're older. :)
However, as I'm currently re-reading this, two important points of note for elementary consideration - this book does have sporadic profanity and there is a sexual encounter that has a limited description. Again, I would only recommend this for extremely mature sixth graders.
That's true. Maybe I'm just biased because sixth grade is middle school in my area. I do agree with you.
