Like button on Amazon Author page

Someone mentioned it and I went to look. There is now a 'like' button on your Amazon.com author page, just above the 'latest tweet' bit.

Not on .co.uk yet.

according to one person the more likes the more Amazon promotion.
Yet another job for the sock puppets, not merely writing reviews but pressing 'like' buttons as well :-(

Hopefully there's some proviso that you have to be a verified Amazon purchaser of that author before you can press like. But I'm guessing there isn't, so the ones with the most friends win yet again.

I suppose we should be grateful that there's no 'un-like' button for the trolls to play with

Presumably Amazon would get wise, if an author had 1000 likes but only sold 3 books...

You'd have thought that one would have been easy enough to check with a simple sub-routine.
However are people 'liking' the books, the author or the author page? After all you can wander onto the author page, decide you like it and press the button, but never buy a book.

Surely there's already a mark of how well liked an author is in how many books they sell and how well they are rated/reviewed.

Perhaps there needs to be a button you press for those authors you dislike personally but whose books you still buy?

In that case, in the interest of balance, we'd need one for authors you personally like but whose books you would not buy.

I've been in groups that do a 'like for like on amazon' party, and I've seen where to win a free book you need to like the authors page.

It's just more numbers I think that don't really mean anything.
