A spot to discuss our favorite reads of the year. Whether a book was new in 2017 or new to you, what books did you read this year that you think other people should check out?

Angie Shere | 3 comments A book that was new to me and my very very favorite read of the year was The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. I highly recommend it! I plan on reading more of this author's works soon. Another book I recommend (especially to fellow librarians) is Dear Fahrenheit 451: Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks. This one was published just a few months ago. It is meant to be a humorous look at the procedure of weeding books and the author's letters written to these books. It was just a playful & fun read for me as a librarian.

Angie, I think I'll need to check out "Dear Fahrenheit 451" because weeding humor is definitely something I can appreciate!

2017 has been an exceptionally slow reading year for me personally, but of the books that I've finished, several have been very good! So of course, I'm still having trouble limiting my choices to two...

For new to me in 2017 I'd have to say the Brothers Sinister by Courtney Milan. I've been reading historical romance novels for so long that it's just delightful to find an author who's doing something new.

For new in 2017, I pick either When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon or The Wanderers by Meg Howrey. Menon's book was a perfect, happy escape and the audiobook narrators were excellent. Howrey's characters are people that I still think about from time to time months later. Both books made me want to go out and read everything either author has ever written!
