Hi Shilpa, welcome to the group!
I know how you feel. I had been in a reading slump for many years because of "life" and joined this group as my last hope to rekindle my love for reading. And it worked!! This had made me so extremely happy, it's hard to put into words :)
I hope you'll enjoy the group as much as I have this past year!

Betsy | 3 comments Hi,
I'm Betsy from Vermont. It is currently -7 degrees F, with wind chills of -30 expected today. Excellent reading weather! I have done the challenge for two years, but have never posted before. I have been an avid reader for decades, and look forward to being a more active participant.

Huhn | 47 comments Hi everyone, I call myself Huhn, which is german for chicken. :) *fluffs feathers*

For two years I tried to fulfill the popsugar challenge, but this years categories don't seem interesting to me, so I am looking for another way to keep myself in a reading mood. The A-Z challenge looks nice, maybe I'll choose that one. Or I create my own out of all the nice categories of the last two years I could not fulfill yet. :)

I think, even though I did not reach the number by far this year, I will keep the number of 40 books as a goal. I got better (2016: 12 books, 2017 ~20 books), and the number of 40 books doesn't seem unreachable.

In the end I want to read as much as I did when I was still in school a few years ago. O__O

I enjoy reading fantasy and YA, sometimes SciFi. Also Graphic Novels and children's books and some other books outside this genres, which just seemed interesting to me. I tend to dislike thriller and books about... erm... reality. For my studies I have to read a lot of non-fictional stuff, so I like to keep it emotional and fictional and somehow "feel-good" for my private reading.

Nice to meet you all! :)

Hi Huhn, nice to meet you too! Welcome to the group. I hope it's challenges will help you reach your goal this year. I'm also a big fan of the monthly group and buddy reads. They really helped me reach and surpass my goal! Just have a look at what this group has to offer and if you see anything you like, just jump in! Have fun!

Andi Preston (andicpreston) | 1 comments Hello, I’m Andi from Kentucky. Looking for a way to interact with other readers and get info on book selections.

Growing up, all i did was read. As I’ve gotten older and with a busy job and the advent of social media, i became less engaged with books. Last year i decided to change that - started small, but completed my reading challenge of 10 books.

With the recent passing of my Mom, i have found reading to be extremely therapeutic. I need something to keep my mind busy, so this year my goal is to read 25 books.

I enjoy reading literary fiction, thrillers/crime novels, YA/dystopian, and the classics. I’m looking forward to meeting others who enjoy books as much as i do. Happy winter reading!

Nani | 1 comments Hello, my name is Nani and I'm from Mexico.

I like YA, romance, fiction, historical fiction, thrillers and some classics. I'm trying to get into fantasy but I just don't know where to start.

My goal for 2018 is 50 books. I want to keep up with sagas I left behind and I want to discover some new authors.

message 408: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 459 comments Hello everyone, I'm Lindsay. I live in central Pennsylvania and I'm an attorney and a single mom, so I just don't have as much time to read as I'd like! I thought this group would be a fun way to keep track of my reading and find people who I can chat with about books. I lean towards thrillers and horror but I'm open to any genre. Recently dipped my toe into sci-fi and romance. The only thing I tend to stay away from are heavy dramas because I get enough of that in real life with my clients!

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 33 comments Hi there, I'm Susan and I live in Las Vegas, NV (I've lived here since I was 8 months old) I am married to the best guy for the last 31 years and we have 7 kids. 6 boys and 1 girl....they are very close in age (I had 5 under 5 without twins) I have 9 grand children (our 9th grandbaby was born yesterday 12/27/2017) we have 3 granddaughters and 6 grandson's. I love to read and have all my life. I also love scrapbooking. I love them both equally and couldn't imagine either hobby in my life.

I read almost everything I can. I'm not a fan of horror because I'm a wimp but I did just check out my first Stephen King book last week and will see if I like it or not. Other then that I used to only read mystery and romance until I picked up one of my daughters books one day and I was hooked on paranormal and then moved onto try fantasy which I fell in LOVE with. My first fantasy series was the Grisha Trilogy and I've been hooked ever since. I am also finding I love Sci-fi too which I never thought I would like it.

I look forward to joining challenges with all of you. Have a Happy New Year everyone!

Growing up, all i did was read. As I’ve gotten older and with a busy job and the advent of social media, i became less engaged with books.

I know what you mean! And what's also different: I fall asleep when reading in bed. That never, and I mean NEVER, used to happen!!

Congratulations! Sounds like you're back on track!

Hi Nani, welcome to the group!

You may want to have a look at the buddy reads. There will be some fantasy reads you might want to join. I'm a big fan of buddy (and group) reads because it is fun reading and discussing a book together and also because I read books I probably wouldn't have otherwise.
Have fun! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Joanna Brauckmann | 1 comments Hi, I’m Joanna. I teach grade 1 at an international school in Germany and have 2 small children. I love to read historical fiction, immigrant stories and dystopian novels. As an elementary teacher I have a soft spot for beautifully written and illustrated picture books. I have a huge collection in German and English because our children are growing up bilingually. My goal for 2017 was to read 100 books and I was surprised that I surpassed it ...there are just sooo many good books to read!!

message 418: by Becky (new)

Becky Hi, my name's Becky and I'm from the UK.

My books mainly fall under the fantasy umbrella but I've been moving towards sci-fi recently. I also like crime/horror and the odd classic.

I was looking for a reading challenge to add to my bullet journal which is how I ended up here. I also wanted an excuse to use goodreads more.

My goal for 2018 is at least 25 books.

First of all, welcome to the group Zaknafein! We are very glad to have you!

As to on how many books to set your challenge, that's quite a difficult question. Only you know what your year was like and how that will compare to 2018: how occupied will you be with other stuff (more, less, or the same), did you easily reach your 65 books or did you feel like you really had to push yourself (too much?), are you planning on reading longer/shorter books or easier/harder reads?

If 2018 will not be very different from 2017 (as far as you can predict of course) and if reading your 65 books didn't feel like a chore, you can maybe increase it to 70 or maybe even 75. Remember, your goal isn't fixed. If half way the year you feel like it's a way too easy goal, you can always increase it. It's good to challenge yourself but it must feel good/be enjoyable, not a chore/duty.

Maybe other group members have other ideas?
Anyone have tips for Zaknafein?

Flo Oliveri (floflo8) | 6 comments Hello everyone! My name is Florencia, I'm from Uruguay.
My favorite genres are fantasy and science fiction within the young adult genre but I don't only read these.
My goal for 2018 is to read at least 30 books.
I have a bookstagram account in which I post in English and Spanish, so I'll leave it here: ciudades de libros.
Good luck in your reading!

message 423: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 130 comments I want to say I HAVE posted in here, but I never actually participated. So here I am again attempting to be social. Anyhoo I'm Maggie. My goal last year was 60 books. I think I've read 27? I let myself get way too distracted with the tv. Plus having three littles makes getting time to read a challenge! This year my goal is 36. Which I feel is a good balance between an easily obtainable goal and a challenge.

I mostly read Fantasy but will dabble in most genres. I've got an addiction to downloading free ebooks.

My first challenge, I can't wait! I am Kj From Broomfield Colorado USA and I have recently had eye surgery (long story) so I am listening a lot of audiobooks until my eyes are back on track.

I love true crime, mystery/thrillers mostly but read historical fictions and general fiction as well.

Susan | 26 comments Hi!
My name is Susan and I'm from Statesboro, GA, USA.
Currently I'm into YA, psychology, biographies, graphic novels, and LGBTQ+, and I enjoy the occasional mystery/thriller.
My current reading goal for this past year was 100. My goal for 2018 is to read 100 books again, (to be fair, half of which will be graphic novels). The mail goal is that 70 of them should be from my TBR pile. I actually found this group while looking up more info about a reading challenge based on putting a dent into your TBR (Beat the Backlist).

I hope everyone can achieve their reading goals in 2018 :)

Matthew Murphy I'm Matt. I'm from Maryland in the US.

My taste in books runs the gambit. I like sci-fi, fantasy, historical fiction, biography, and history the most.

I found out about the group by searching on Goodreads looking for a book club like community.

My reading goal for 2018 is 28 books. I like big books so I figured this year I'd focus on them so I figured a book every two weeks is a good start.

My reading goal is to read 24 books, so two a month. I want to do a bit of the Popsugar reading challenge as well as the monthly group reads and participate in some of the monthly/quarterly challenges.

I love talking about books and digging deeper into the story which is my main reason of wanting to join this group! Can't wait :)!

Sarah | 5 comments Hi, everyone!

I'm Sarah, a 15 year old reader with a proclivity for writing as well. I live in Wisconsin, USA, which is about as boring as the USA gets, so you can see why I enjoy reading so much.

I'm a fan of most genres, but I've only recently starting making my way through the mountains of must-reads. I usually have my nose stuck in those jarring classics that make you reevaluate everything you know about humanity (I think I'm the only student at my school who enjoyed Lord of the Flies), but recently I've been obsessed with every contemporary romance novel I can get my hands on.

After reading through all your introductions, I feel like I must be the youngest here, so if anybody would like to prove me wrong, please don't hesitate!

Megan (imnutmeg) | 13 comments Hey! My name is Megan. I am from Northwest Arkansas. I am a special education teacher in a middle school and love to read teen/YA books. I try to stay current on the books my students are interested in. I enjoy reading fantasy, sci-fi, and dystopian. During the summers, I tend to read more romances and contemporary fiction. My goal this year is to read 60 books. I found this group while perusing Pinterest and the Pop Sugar reading list for 2018. I'm hoping this year I can branch on of my comfort zone and find a love for books in genres I don't ordinarily read.
