Samantha | 2 comments Hi everyone!
My name is Samantha and I am from Texas. Im currently a freshman in High School. I just recently (like June) started getting into reading. Im still trying to find what I "enjoy" reading the most. My goal for 2018 is 50 books, I hope to get beyond this goal. :) Happy to be on the group.

message 155: by Laura (new)

Laura Hi, all! I'm Laura from the Chicago suburbs. I enjoy contemporary fiction, historical fiction, and pretty much anything my book club chooses to read. Once upon a time I was a voracious reader, but adulting got in the way and I slowed down big time. I finally hit my goal of 20 books in a year for 2017, and I'm looking to up that to 25 for 2018.
I found you all just browsing around goodreads, not even realizing they had message boards. This seemed like a good general group to get started with.

Susy (susysstories) Penny wrote: "I was wondering how do I take a book off "currently reading" if I decide I don't like the book and not finish it?"

Hi Penny, on your app you click on the arrow next to Want to read and choose Remove book from shelves at the bottom of the list.
On your laptop or desktop you go to your Want to read-shelf and click on the X at the right end of the line where the book is mentioned.
In both cases you delete the book from all your shelves.

Another option, if you want to track the books you did try but didn't like (instead of deleting it completely) is make a Did Not Finish shelf which you make exclusive so you don't have to catalogue it under Read/Want to read/Currently reading as well).

Good luck! Let me know if you succeeded.

message 164: by Skyler (new)

Skyler | 4 comments Hello, my name is Skyler and I currently live in the Tampa Bay/St Petersburg area in a Florida. I am trying to get more regular with reading. I read non-stop in high school and college and then adulting got in the way, so I thought joining this group may help me become more persistent. I enjoy mostly contemporary fiction, but I do like some mystery, like I enjoy Gillian Flynn. I set my goal to 12 books this next year after completely failing my goal of 15 for this year (I'll maybe get to 6). Hoping to get a good chunk of my ever-growing TBR list done this coming year!

message 165: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1 comments Hello,

I’m from south Florida in the US. I enjoy reading fiction mostly. I love sci-fi, fantasy, YA, classics, romance, historical fiction. I spend way too much time reading fanfiction so I’m hoping to branch out this year and read more from my TBR list. I’m going to try to do the popsugar challenge as well.

I am just learning how to use goodreads even though I joined a while ago. I stumbled on this group when I was looking for 2018 book challenges!

message 168: by JacoboGL (new)

JacoboGL | 8 comments Jacobo from Spain. I like to read those books that I believe everyone should read before dying. In 2017 I already read 63 books being my challenge 60. I'm currently reading one and expect to read at least one more so I expect to finish 65 books in 2017. I had a couple of low reading months, March and August, in which I read only 2 on each month. So if everything goes as planned for next year I'm going for 70 books.

message 170: by Lulu (new)

Lulu Hello! My name is Lindsay and I'm from the midwest in United States of America. I like to read literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. But, I'm not afraid to try something new or outside my reading comfort zone. I found the group by specifically looking for online book clubs; I stumbled across this page and thought it looked awesome! My reading goal this year is 35 books. I read just over 30 books this year and just over 40 last year, so I figure I'll split the difference. I'm so excited to get to do my reading with friends this year!

message 171: by jana (new)

jana marie (janamarieee) | 5 comments Hello everyone! :) My name is Jana and I am from Canada. I’ve had a Goodreads account for a while but only recently started becoming more active on it.

I’ve always loved reading ever since I was a kid. I learned to read pretty early and I just remember always having my nose in a book, ordering or buying books at the book fair at school and going to the library whenever I had free time. My dream as a kid (and even now) is to have a home library in my house with wall-to-wall shelves stacked with books.

I like reading pretty much every type of book, whether it’s non-fiction, fiction, classics, manga, etc… If the story sounds interesting, I’ll read it. But I do find I mostly gravitate towards mystery/thrillers, fantasy and historical fiction.

I stumbled upon this group as I was browsing Goodreads looking for groups, and this one sounded like a great group to join! My reading goal is 50-60 books this year (excluding manga as I find I breeze through those).

I’m looking forward to connecting with you guys and discussing some amazing books!

message 172: by Kailey (new)

Kailey Makuck Hi guys! I'm Kailey and I live in Wisconsin which is in the Midwest of the United States.
I really love all genres of books and an always willing to try out new books.
My reading goal in the beginning of the year was around 50, because that is usually what I was able to read in the past, but I found out this year I've been unable to really get in a book. Where in the past I would've normally finish in one or two days is now taking me up to a few weeks if not months to finish. Books aren't as adventure filled as they used to be. I'm really hoping that this helps me get my love of reading back, because I really miss being able to lose myself in books for hours at a time.

Hayley Perolio (blatanlybookish) | 1 comments Good evening, everyone!

My name is Hayley and I live in Reno, NV. I am brand new to GR and I have instantly fell in love. I am a busy mom of two, and I work full time also. I don't get to read nearly as much as I would like to, unfortunately. My goal for this year is to try to read one or two books a month. Keyword: Try. Lol

I like almost all genres of books. Recently, my fascination has been with thrillers and general fiction. I love to read fiction and nonfiction history books as well (I'm a fool for Elizabeth-era books).

I could definitely use some recommendations, as I am new to this. I've never been in a book group before, I am so excited! :)

Bri (goodreadscombri) | 48 comments Hi there! My name is Brianne and I am from Ontario, Canada. I joined Goodreads a few years ago to simply get new book ideas but haven't actually utilized the site until now! This group seemed the most fun and interesting and *up to date* of the ones I found thus far! I enjoy reading a variety of things, but my focus has also been on historical fiction, young adult, dystopian, and sci-fi novels. My reading goal for 2015 is to read 30 books- in high school I could easily do this but now out of college and working its been a but tricky to get back on the reading band wagon! Super excited to do some challenges this year and read some new books!

Ashlee (ashlee0821) | 3 comments Hi there! My name is Ashlee and I'm from Northwest Georgia in the United States. I joined Goodreads a while ago but just started using it again recently. I just finished up my Master's in Instructional Technology: School Library Media and would like to use Goodreads in the future for a Media Center account so I'm trying it out on a personal basis. I love to read but haven't been able to much due to working full time and attending Graduate School. I finished Graduate School last week and now have plenty of time to read! My challenge for 2018 is to hopefully read 60 books. I love historical fiction, nonfiction history books, fantasy, science fiction, and young adult novels so I can stay attuned with what my students like to read. I'm looking forward to some challenges in 2018 and reading lots of new books!

I used to read books back when I was at college (didnt know about Goodreads back then), but I eventually lost the habit of reading when I left college. This April, I had decided to start reading again, and took the Reading Challenge (20 books).

I like fantasy (I love good world-building), sci-fi, mystery/thrillers and any other good fiction. My challenge for 2018 is to read 40 books and I am looking forward to reading those with you all!

Raviteja it is so very nice to have you join us. do you have a book you recommend to your friends as a go to sci-fi book? I could never really find my speed with that genre. If you like series check out our yearly challenges that deals with book series if you are looking to jump in.

Blagica, I dont exactly have a go-to sci-fi book, but this year I have read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and I liked it. I plan to read Ender's Saga series by Orson Scott Card (atleast the first book) this year. I will check out the series in the yearly challenges too.

message 189: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia Hi all!
My name is Ana and I’m from upstate New York in the US. I’ve had a goodreads account forever but just started using it. I’m really into young adult fantasy right now, but I also lie Dark fantasy, romance, suspense and general young adult books. I’m an avid reader so I’m setting my goal for 2018 at 100 books. Although I’m hoping to surpass that. :)

message 190: by Pillsonista (new)

Pillsonista | 13 comments Hi, everyone! My name is Sara, and I’m from California. *waves*

I found this group because I’ve been in search of as many ideas for reading challenges that I could find, and this here is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t reading. My taste in books is all over the place: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and everything in between. I have the same laissez-faire attitude when it comes to genre. Good is good, and I could care less how it’s classified.

My goal for the minimum numbers of books I will read in 2018 is 50, but I hope that by the year’s end the actual number will be at least twice that.

message 191: by Mani (new)

Mani (manisbookcorner) | 138 comments Hi all, my name is Mani from UK. This is my very first time in joining an online group. I love reading but haven't been able to read as much as I used to which was usually 2 books a week.

For 2018 I am hoping to at least read double the amount of books as this year so hopefully that will be 28 books.

I usually like to read Crime, Mysteries, Thrillers and Horror books but am trying new genres.

I look forward to meeting/making new friends and trying new books.

message 192: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (kementari) Hallo, I'm Abigail. I live in New Jersey but I don't like to admit it. I like all kinds of books, provided they don't head-hop and the characters are usually sensible.

I'm working on the 52 books/52 weeks challenge in 2018, but I'm hoping to do a little extra reading on the side and this group seems like a good place to do it, what with the lively discussions and all.

Joey (Eppic) Epperson (eppic) | 49 comments Hey there people... God I hope you are people... I am from a small town in Central Washington, USA. No...not that Washington, get a map, thats not even a state...look left...further left...now go up...
Now, I know what you are thinking...Seattle right? Nope...wrong again. Thats Western Washington, those people are NOT my people...I really dont like Western Washington...I do however like the Seahawks.
I am a disabled veteran, a professional photographer, a darn good BBQ chef, I hunt and fish, and I love to read. I do not have a favorite kind of book, I like westerns, but I like romance (not those romance books), I love history, I love Sci-Fi, actually if I had to peg down ONE genre it would probably be Cowboys and Aliens...(see what i did there?). I love a good mystery, and I used to love Stephen King, but now I have kids and I cant get the cat from Pet Cemetary out of my head...
I stumbled into this group by a little something I like to call, the search parameters...
I am really not even sure what you want to know...Im a sarcastic, slightly mean, ass... if you want to know anything ask!
Dont lose your bookmark, although most of you are probably reading on your fancy devices...

message 195: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (thebookishgirl27) Hello everyone! My name is Victoria and I am from England.

Some of my favorite types of books to read include pretty much anything which is young adult but over the next year I am hoping to read more adult/ middle grade books because these genres both interest me. My favorite genre by far is contemporary and I also really enjoy reading dystopian books but again, I am hoping to read more fantasy over the next year.

My dream would be to read 100 books in 2018 but with school and just how busy my life is right now that probably won't be very realistic so I am going to start with a goal of 20 books and work up by 10 through out the year as I reach my goals (if that makes sense XD)

message 196: by Soy un gato (new)

Soy un gato Un | 1 comments Howdy you all,
I'm from Spain. If I had to choose between one genre or another, it'd be a tough thing to do: drama, adventure, historical, scifi, horror, Victorian... I can't go for just one. I try to pick up a different genre, style and age every time. I found this group by surfing the web, just at random. Curiously enough, The title of your present reading caught my eye. So, let's say that I ended up joining you because of lovely Agatha. My personal reading goals are far from be achieved this year because I wanted to read, at least, two books a month. Also, I'm really into languages: French, English, Spanish and German. So, feel free if you want to discuss Literature with me and practice some of these languages.

message 197: by John (new)

John (johnreadsthings) Hello! I'm John from the Philippines. I'm hoping to get to know a lot of people in this group!

My preferred books to read have evolved through time. Up until I was 18, I had read only YA books. Then, the first "adult" book I've read (at 18 going through 19) is Tampa by Alissa Nutting-- which I think was appropriate, don't you think? (It goes without saying that that book SHOOK me to the core.) Right now, I like exploring new books and new genre. But the genre I'd most likely is M/M Romance (lol). In fact, my favorite book is an M/M Romance (The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller).

I found the group through browsing the Groups tab. I think it'd be fun to join a group, so I did!

This year, I haven't read that much book because I was so busy studying for a licensure exam. But in 2018, I aim to read more (I only read like 1-2 books a month); I'd like to challenge myself to 4 books per month--a book every week!

I'd love to talk with you, guys. Send me a message and let's discuss our favorite books!
